  1. There should be a knob on the side of the reel (generally on the side with the drag) that you turn to either tighten or loosen the spool tension.
  2. Umm...without seeing the rest of what you wanted to post... Pray for warmer weather?
  3. IMO best post on the subject. As for me, knowing how to land bigger fish like tarpon on light spinning or flyrod What I wouldn't give to nail a tarpon on my fly rod. My next big challenge to catch a 30+ lb Permit on fly, although I'm not sure if my reel has enough backing capacity to handle that kind of fish...
  4. I've got three rods that I use for the most part. Baitcaster on a 7' rod for frogging, topwaters for peacocks, etc etc.. Spinning on a 7' rod for most of my soft plastics or for places where I need a bit more sensitivity. Spinning on a 6'6" as a spare or for most other lures Thats not to say that I don't have other rods and reels. Those are just the three that I use for the most part. I don't really do a bunch of flipping so I don't see the need to go out and buy a heavy duty whuppin stick for it. I'll just use my casting rig above because it's got some more meat to it compared to my spinning rods.
  5. Congrats to the angler. Monster fish. You can debate for hours the legitimacy of Perrys' fish, but you can't deny this one. I'm sure that there are going to be tons of people flocking to Japan now for trophy fishing before too much longer. Tie, record, whichever. You can't deny the fact that the fish was a d**n pig.
  6. It was one of those couldn't pass up kind of things. I've got a small surplus of cash right now with Christmas having come and all and I've been restocking on a bunch of gear. Now I just need to find a cheap reel to go with a second rod I found. I don't want to drop 100 bucks on another reel, but if I do I'll probably pick up another Pro Qualifier casting reel since they now come in a low gear ratio.
  7. Sunset? Private development in Broward. Just west of Dykes Road and I-75. It was one of the spots they dug out for the fill on all the new house properties about 8 or 9 years ago when this area sprung up.
  8. I'm really hoping they last through this cold snap that rolled through today. I had a good day yesterday catching them when the temps got back into the 70's. But it's getting cold outside and you know it'll be worse tonight. It's supposed to warm back up by Tuesday or so. Hopefully the water temps don't drop to that nasty fish killing point.
  9. I use lizards frequently down here. I've got lots of lizards and geckos that hang around my backyard so it seems natural to me to use them. Lots of time I'll just weightless T-rig them and use them like a topwater.
  10. My major weakness is that I constantly buy tackle and or equipment that I definitely do not need....
  11. Thank ya gentlemen. That was incredibly easy. Not a bad deal in the end I guess. Rod cost me 7 bucks, guide was another 2 or 3 bucks. So 10 bucks for an extra rod.
  12. I was out at the Bass Pro in Dania Beach earlier today. It's right next to the IGFA. The hotel next door was fully packed. Parking lot was as full as I've ever seen it. The inside of the store was full as well. About as busy as I've seen the place.
  13. None dead in my lake. I'm not all that far from Holiday park. Luckily, my lake here is deep. Like 60' deep in most spots. Most of the other residential lakes in this area are only 12' - 15' deep. I didn't catch any, but I did have several follow baits up yesterday from deeper water. The temps get a little warmer today (mid 70's) then drop back off until Monday/Tuesday when it starts to warm back up again. Hopefully they can hold off for a few days longer.
  14. How would you check to see what size you need? I know my luck, if I just bought a pack, I'd need what came in the other..
  15. Those are some sexy lookin baits. Great job on the painting. I'd probably buy some if I saw them in a store.
  16. So I go into my local Wal-mart today because I needed a couple packs of Senko's and see a Daiwa casting rod sitting in there next to all the regular wal-mart junk. I nearly picked it up but the last guide and probably a few inches of the rod were broken off. I was curious how hard it would be to replace the top guide on it. The rest of the rod "looked" decent. IM7 blank, fuji guides and all. For the like 10 bucks that it was stickered at I might go back and pick it up to try and fix it up for an extra rod...
  17. did you fish KOG? did you catch your 10 pounder in a tourny at holiday? nice fish. Nope and nope. Was just a day out in the middle of the week with a friend of mine.
  18. Well, not a bad day all in all. Temps dropped down to the low 30's here last night. The topwater bite was slow for me this morning. Did manage to land a few decent fish on the Shad. Looking forward to next week when the warmer weather will roll back in. The fish should start becoming more active again as the water temps start to rise again.
  19. I had a decent topwater bite early this morning. The temps here are supposed to drop even further (33 or so tonight), so I'm not sure how things are going to be tomorrow. I fully plan on seeing though. Actually, while I was playing around with it earlier I thought about using a keel weighted hook. It looks pretty good running just under the surface. Thankfully after checking that link you have, I realized I did rig it right on the first shot. Pretty self explanitory I guess though. I do like the idea of using it on a c-rig as my lake is pretty deep.
  20. I use my bass gear all the time saltwater fishing. Like Raul said, make sure that you thoroughly rinse them down afterwards with fresh water. The time you spend rinsing it off is minor compared to having to replace gear. That being said, picking up a cheap saltwater setup would probably be smart if you're going on extended fishing trips. I'm so d**n paranoid that I use the fresh water wash down on the boat during the day to make sure that my stuff doesn't get corroded.
  21. I think my first was one of those old wooden hula poppers that my grandfather had when I was a kid. That and the old jelly worms. Man, fishing was so much easier back then. Catching anything was such a blast.
  22. Does the bait monkey include plano boxes? I just walked out of BPS with 5 more of them. And a metric ton of soft plastics... I swear, sometimes I wish that store never opened so close to me.
  23. So I finally jumped on the whole rage tail thing today. Wanted some Rage Toads, but the BPS I was in only carried the Shad. Holy god does that thing throw up a ton of water/movement. Can't wait for tomorrow morning to rip this across my lake when it's not so choppy. It's just fun to watch it, I can't wait to see a bass rip it apart. Wish I would have picked up some of these sooner...
  24. I've always heard it was a creek chub wiggle fish. I've also heard it called a creek chub fintail shiner. So it's something along those lines...
  25. For me it's soft plastics. Whether or not thats a confidence or comfort thing I'm not sure, but thats what I mainly use. Down here for me its: frogs and lizards on topwater t-rigged big d**n worms
