Baby Brush Hog
just trim the end off the brush hog with the tentacles and appendages. I do not like to do that though. I feel like I am wasting the bait. There are jig trailers out there made already. Try paca chunks, amazing baits. I would leave brush hogs whole.

Can't set the hook?
its possible you might be dragging the baits over rocks and other cover. sometimes the bait will sink somewhat into the bottom. When you go to retrieve it, you will be popping the bait out of the ground creating some suction. Last year I started using jigs, I was able to tell a jig strike at any time. I described the feeling as the vibration of cellphone.

Wanna Catch a Bass Already! ( Fishing a narrow river)
This year so far, I have gotten out 5 or 6 times without a fish. The first time I went out, my lake was frozen over. I am now fishing a river. It is non other than the Chicago river. The water remains warm and for 4 trips I have come back with zero. I saw one blue gill though. I have flipped jigs, lipless crankbaits, and jerk baits. What should I do to entice a strike? I have been fishing the numerous rock piles and fallen timber. The area where new water enters the river, I have casted jigs into. Still I have got nothing. What can I do to buy a bite? How do you fish rivers in general?

Kids fish anymore?
kids are a type of their own. they are like fish, you have to take them out during the right conditions and they never like to stay in the same place for too long. Then again, we all have different likes and dislikes. It might also be an issue of time. Without anybody to take them, they have no way to go. Perhaps their parents work a lot. During a time like this, people are working more. Some people do not want to invest the time or money on fishing. It could be beneficial to dedicate one for work and saving.

what's best to cast w/baitcaster?
I have found that I use anything with weight and that moves fast on a baitcaster. For a spinning reel, mostly weightless baits and baits I like to move slower. I tried using a jig and pig as well as a weighted creature bait with my spinning reel. Because the spinning reel rod is the reverse of the baitcaster, my baits would get stuck in at the bottom. They dug themselves into the gravel and dirt. With a baitcaster, the reversed rod guides do not allow the bait to fall so easily when it is not engaged. The baitcaster would pull against the bait, while the spinning reel went with the bait.

Possibly the worst day on Lake Texoma in history.
have to go through the bad to get to the good. I spent a month waking up early during the beginning of 09 pumped as can be to go fishing only to find my local lake frozen. I was disappointed. Once it melted I rocked that lake.

Baits To Put in My Bro's Tacklebox
what i pretty much did was open all my gear and told him to pick out any bait he wants. Last summer we went to Michigan and had a large lake in our backyard. I gave him the bobber and nightcrawler and he caught a lot of bluegill. The water was clear as day and he could see the fish strike. We ran out of worms and he used marshmallows which worked even better. My brother is not the most patient person in the world. after the gills, he told me he wanted to catch some "big fishies". Believe it or not, being a first generation bass fisherman, i taught myself all I know. I had plastics but had no idea how to use them until 2 years ago. so I would like to introduce him first so that he will have more fun and we wont have to worry about live bait. I was actually going to make a worm farm for him this year just in case we do not feel like using lures. I wanna make sure he becomes the best fisherman possible. Thanks for the advice.

Baits To Put in My Bro's Tacklebox
I just bought my brother his first fishing rod and tackle box. So far he has some roadrunners with crappie thunder, zoom ss worms and lizards, senkos, lucky strike worms, and some other panfish baits. Besides terminal tackle what else should I include? My little brother is 3. He wont be fishing until 4 though. Hate winter in the north!!!

Help setting up a child's spincaster
I must be the biggest moron on the planet. I can spool a spinning reel and baitcast reel but I cannot set up a spincasting reel. I bought my brother a cars kid's spinning reel for the holidays so that I can take him fishing. My only problem is that I cant set it up.

Which bass that got away hurt the most?
this one time in July, i went to my secret fishing spot with my cousins and dad. This was our first time there. I had just come off weeks without catching a bass. When we got there there was this tree that overshadowed this small area outlined by rocks and its small roots. I immediately grabbed my worm rod as it was the first thing i had on. I attempted to cast the into that spot and missed it many times. I tried again and again but continually got caught up in the tree. I tried to pull and eventually it fell out a little from my targeted spot. Immediately my line began to move and I set the hook. I fought this thing for some time and eventually got it close to the shore. I did my best to keep it out of the brush. Then everything went still. This "bass" literally went airborne and took off like a jet, I stood there in amazement as this rather large bass took to like 10 ft in the air! Literally. For what seemed like an hour was more like 5 seconds. She landed back in the water. I was so pumped and yanked my rod to pull that fish back. My adrenaline was pumping but my intelligence dwindled: i pulled her right into a wood piling. Then it happened; snap! This bass must have been around 7 - 9 pounds. For Illinois, that was one heck of a trophy. I remember slamming my rod against the ground and letting out a wolf like howl. Man i wish i had caught that bass.
