  1. My friend's reel that is broken doesn't reel anymore. You can turn the handle but the spool doesn't move so I'm guessing the gears inside are for some reason not interlocked anymore (or something along those lines). I see no other screws that I can get to on the outside so how would I get to worm gear screw? I'm new at the maintenance stuff so take it easy on me
  2. Hi all. I have a problem that probably has an easy solution and I'm just being stupid. I am trying to do a little maintenance on two reels (not really good reels but good practice). One is a Pinnacle Platinum Plus and the other is a Pflueger (friend's reel) and the Pflueger is broken so I'm just messing around with it. I took off the reel handle and got the first set of bearings out on both. I can't get the second set out and I can't get the side plate off. I took out all of the screws holding the side plate on and it seems it is still being held in place on one end somehow. I don't want to just yank it off without knowing what is going to happen (if it is like a clip of some kind in there). I can't lift it high enough on the one end to shine a light in and see how it is still attached either. Has anyone run into this?
  3. Just realized I never said what kind of reels they are. Neither of them are expensive as I couldn't afford a really expensive one until recently but I still want them to work nice; I hate wasting things. Daiwa Procaster Tournament 100 Pinnacle Platinum Plus LP100 Not sure if anyone would be able to answer this question. I have schematics for both reels and I have gotten the first ball bearing out and a sleeve after it. There is a part called One Way Clutch Assembly. On the schematic it says it is supposed to come out next but I cannot figure out how to get it out. I know this is probably hard to answer without a picture but if anyone has worked on similar reels would you be able to help with this?
  4. Yeah I'm going to use the method in the thread that was posted, using the long acetone soak.
  5. Just ordered some stuff from the link Reel Mechanic! Thanks a lot. Skunked_again, good link I will definitely use that. Thanks guys.
  6. Thanks for the guidance guys I'll definitely be using it soon here. I've gotten so comfortable with the reels I am using that I don't want to change; plus I don't just want to throw around money buying new ones. I guess it is always good to know this stuff anyways. Thanks again.
  7. Hi all. So in the past I never really took care of reels, I would just replace them every couple years when they stopped working. Now I have two new ones and I want to do some maintenance on them. They both came with instructions showing you how to take it apart and say not to use all purpose oils or greases. What is good oil or grease to use for bearings and such?
  8. Has anyone ever done any bass fishing here? I went rock climbing by this place before but never fished there and cannot find much about the fishing online. I was able to find out that they stock it with trout but that does not really interest me.
  9. Is your avatar picture with that huge largemouth from Beltzville?
  10. The picture was taken a little later and the background is not the area where I caught them. When I say under the power lines I mean out in the big section of the lake, where the huge towers of power lines are, you can hear them buzzing. We were fishing on that sandy shelf that is 3-6 ft deep and then it drops off to like 60-80 out near the middle. We didn't take pictures at first because it was pouring and didn't want to get my digital camera wet so we kept them in the livewell for an hour or so and then let them both go. Maybe she'll be the state record in five years.
  11. Just caught this guy on Saturday. Bad weather day but I caught him and the striper both on white spinner baits in about 3-5 ft of water near a steep drop off. Both of them were caught within 30 minutes of each other in between two big storms. Smallmouth was 4 lbs 13 ozs, I think that is pretty good for PA. The striper wasn't big but it is the only one I ever caught so he's in it. This is the first time I have done anything good whatsoever at Beltzville.
  12. Minsi, Mauch Chunk, Beltzville, Belmont, Lackawanna, Promised Land, various other off the map lakes that you have to hike to get to.
  13. I have been to Mauch Chunk Lake two times, it is about an hour from where I am. I went to boat launch B both times and went to that far end of the lake. There is a large shallow flat, maybe 6ft and under for most of that very end. During the day we would crank the drop offs and then in the evening go up in this shallow flat. In the flat there is a lot of grass under the surface and lillypads. Classic slug-go fishing works like a charm up in that area in the evening.
  14. Thanks man let me know how it goes. I was there at 3 oclock in the morning last weekend for like 6 hours and caught 3 tiny bass and a few decent pickeral, and one foul-hooked catfish...lol
  15. Just wondering if anyone has been to this place although it isn't likely. It is like a mile and a half hike into the woods from Camelback Mountain in the Poconos. I hiked back there, took 3 casts and got caught in a thunderstorm but I definitely want to go back. If anyone has any info about this place please post. Thanks.
  16. The Poconos are loaded with electric only lakes I live here. Most of the lakes are not enormous though. Promised Land State Park, Minsi Lake, Mauch Chunk Lake, Keen Lake, Brady's Lake, Lackawanna Lake, Egypt Meadows, all are electric and that is just off the top of my head now.
  17. I live like 20 minutes from the Delaware River and the closest part of the river to me is where I-80 crosses the Delaware. I've never really looked into fishing the Delaware that much but I've heard it is a great smallmouth fishery. Does anyone know where the nearest boat launch on the river is to I-80 or any good spots?
  18. How heavy is that bass Robby?
  19. Robby was that bass in your profile picture caught in PA?
  20. What depth would you normally fish during a nice, normal weather period? Largies or Smallies.
  21. Has anyone fished Beltzville lake this year since the spawn? I was just there recently and mostly just caught huge pickeral, could not find a bass for anything. Whoever has fished here please share some techniques/depths/anything on where the bass are, small or large mouth. This is one deep lake and I'm not used to fishing a lake where it is 20ft deep 10 feet off shore.
  22. Spinnerbait for sure, at any time I always have one tied on one of my rods. And nothing is more fun than black, colorado blade spinnerbaits at night.
  23. Rod tip high up, that helps keep it up, real at a decent speed. If it is hooked as the picture shows (the one someone posted up there), then it should flip over on its own. I've only used this thing twice and it is my favorite bait.
  24. Well, today was my first test of the toad, it was drizzly and overcast with barely any breeze, almost still most of the time, I tried the lilly pad area first and nothing was around, so I moved to the grassy flats and was just bringing the toad over the top of the holes in the matted grass. I had 4 different fish, only caught one just a little over 2 lbs (that's decent for PA sadly). The one I caught took the thing 4 times before it got the hook (it kept comin), I'm using a 5/0 hook, not wide gap which could be the issue with the lack of a good hook set? The other three never got hooked and they hit multiple times each so clearly this rage toad gets fish to bite and love it. Any ideas? Maybe I just have a really bad hook set lol
  25. Well I just picked up the pearl colored toads, a pack of craws and a pack of anacondas. I still haven't used any of these yet since I just got them yesterday and today but I couldn't help but to buy more. I'm going to a place with a lot of lillypads in a day or two and I will definitely be using the toads and probably try some others.
