HELP: Fly rod wt recommendation - 5/6 or 7/8 wt?
Welcome,Might I add that when you go out to buy the first rod you look at a med. to med.fast action rod as they will be more foregiving to learn with.See if you can find a F.F. club to join as there will be folks happy to help you learn.A very good line that I have now gone to on all my reels is a S.A. HeadStart,it's a bass taper floating line and it cost's 15-20 dollars less than a "Bass Bug" line.............Good Luck,Alan

fly line
Kevin,Yes they do make bass fly lines,I would try to find a S.A. Headstart line it is a W/F floating line and the best part, is it is about 35 bucks as compared to 50-60,it is the same line only shorter it will serve you very well....Good Luck,Alan

Anyone have a River2Sea Dragonfly?
As a flyfisherman for bass I will throw a dragonfly when I can see them out on the water, they do catch fish!!,you can tie them yourself they are not hard to do but would be hard to throw with a spinning set-up.I seem to remember that Uncle Josh makes a dragonfly lure, and I think B.P. sells them.....Good Luck,Alan

Lilly pads
Lillies are tubers and very easy to transplant. If it turns out you can plant them, all you have to do is stick them in the mud and they will grow and multiply every year.....Good Luck,Alan

Fly Rods
Sorry to hear about the old grass stick, love mine and would be bummed.I think you might look at a fiberglass fly rod ie. Lami-glass,Fenwick or even a Eagle Claw,I say that because of what you are used to casting(slower) that said maybe look at a TFO Iv'e heard good things about them and if you break one just gather up the pieces and send them back and they ship you a new rod.You want to fish for bass and trout maybe look at a 5-6wt. for trout and an 8wt. for bass.....Good Luck,Alan

Fed up with BPS
I was going to start a thread here with my mistake service with BPS,but as a rule I would rather not air dirty laundry in public....but!!! I placed an order by phone and was told that shipping was a bit backed up(that's fine, I understand) it took them 8 working days to get the order out of there doors, then 9 days to get to my door, and on top of that one can not track the package with the USPS system that they are using.I have a small business and ship cross country in 2-3 days the folks I ship too can track the package door to door, and, this is USPS. I will also add that the ladies that I spoke to were as helpfull as they could be, not knowing what is going on in the shipping dept. etc....Alan

what brand fly fishing line is reliable
I second S.A. as a very good line,to answer the other question about price,a fly line if taken care of will last you a few years so the price upfront might be a little hard to swallow just keep in mind you will not be changing it very often...oh also check-out S.A. Headstart as it is just a shorter bass line and is only around 35-40 bucks vs 50-60,Good Luck....Alan

Any Kayak Fisherman out there?
Chode,I'm a kayak fisherman, own a Tarpon 120 and love it!! I fish both ocean and fresh water, the yak does everything I ask it to do.I think you should try out the models you might be interested in,most kayak shop's will take the rental fee off the price of the kayak you end up buying ,get the basic model and not the whiz-bang angler edition as you will want to outfit the boat as to how YOU fish...and that is very important!!.....Good Luck....hope this helps...if you have any questions just ask and i will do my best to answer....Alan....P.S. do a google search on kayak fishing you will come up with tons for info.
