Get a scale!
I don;'t care what anyone says, you CANNOT accurately tell the size of a fish from pictures. I can make a 2 pounder look like a 7, and a 7 pounder look like a 2. If you look at ANY thread where people guess the weight, it's so all over the place it's rediculous. Everyone should have a scale, I picked one up for like 10 dollars and it's pretty accurate. Then you don't have to make silly guesses, and call your 3 pounder a 7 pounder.

Get a scale!
I tried something like this a while back, and no one wanted to play. It's funny how the "how big is my fish" threads get 6 pages of posts ranging from 1-9 pounds. When they know you have the weight, no one wants to guess. I posted like 5 fish, said I know the weights, trying to prove the same point, and nobody really guessed lol.

Fishing the LARGER(SOFT) stickbaits
dingers are pretty durable, much more so than senkos. You should be fine, just make sure you cast smoothly, not a big whipping action.

Deep Water Fishing
what depth are the fish at? That will play a big difference in technique... if the fish are at 20 feet, a deep crank could work, if they're sitting at the bottom, drop shot, carolina or texas rig is what I would try.

Crawdad
I haven't tried since I was a kid, but flipping over rocks we found them all day.

Fishing stock ponds for T.V. shows....
Uh.. have you tried going to the RT website? They have video's there that actually show how the product is supposed to be used vs. a TV fishing show which is for entertainment purposes first, then if advertised, instrutional purposes. There is plenty of media out there for instructional purposes. Insisting that every fishing show be some sort of real world day on the lake experience isn't practical nor would it sell. I suspect ratings would tumble if we tuned in and watched fishing shows in real time with cast after cast after cast made with little catching in between and those fish caught often not exceeding 1 1/2 lbs. I'm not insisting anything... simply stating why I don't watch those types of shows. If you prefer to watch a show that has zero fishing information, and just talks about what the sponsors sell, that's your choice. I find it to be the equivelent of watching a baseball game, they make one pitch where they hit a home run, and then the rest of the game is them trying to sell you the bat, clothes, and other gear associated with it. It's just not for me.

Fishing stock ponds for T.V. shows....
let me give an example of last nights show abou the rooster. I wanted to see if he casts, flips or pitches it, what he does with the bait in the water, when/where/how he uses it, etc. They showed NONE of that. I don't think they ever showed him throw the bait once. All they showed was him bringing in fish, followed by him telling how you have to buy this boat, it's the best boat. Then they showed him catch a fish followd by you have to use this reel, it's the best one. They really told you nothing about the bait whatseover, no tips on how to use it, didn't really show anything except a hookset, reel in the fish, then it would either go to a commercial, or he would talk about everything else other than the rooster. Don't get me wrong, I love watching some of the shows, and i've learned alot from them, but some of them are just plain rediculous.

Fishing stock ponds for T.V. shows....
many of the fishing shows are nothing more than an informercial, and I don't enjoy watching too many of them because of that.15 seconds of fishing followed by a sales pitch until the next commercial. no thanks.

Just insane!!!!
people will pay big bucks for a winning bait, basically because they're suckers. If KVD was sponsored by someone other than Strike King, he would have used a different bait, he still would have won the classic, and people would be all over whatever bait he used. He didn't win the classic because of the bait he used, he won the classic because he's the best.

Fishing stock ponds for T.V. shows....
I fish a stocked, private body of water, and let me tell you, there's plenty of days where it's just as hard to fish as some public high pressured lakes. The thing I don't like about watching fishing shows, is they're basically nothing other than an advertisement majority of the time. I was watching I think strike king journal last night where denny had the smokin rooster, and every 10 seconds he was trying to sell you his reel, his boat, and anything else. I felt like the show had nothing to do with the rooster, it was just a big sales pitch. Didn't give tips on how to work it, where/when to throw it, just showed him pulling in big fish and then trying to sell his flippin/pitchin reel.

NJ season 2010
my lakes still have a foot of ice lol, and 2 feet of snow on top of that lol. But with the weather warming up, i'm hoping to be out on the water in just a few weeks, and dang, i'm looking forward to it.

shakey heads in march
anything is always worth a try. The only time something in fishing is guaranteed not to work, is when you don't try it.
-
water temp
I've had better days on the ice this year than I did any other time of year. Don't let the weather stop you. Look for the warm water, generally the deeper areas will be warmer.

lake still iced?
without knowing how thick the ice is, how long it's beein in the 40's, there's no way to be able to answer. my lake is 399 acres, so pretty much the same size, it's been in the 40's for a few days, but we still have about a foot of ice.

The Strike, The Hook Set, or the Fight?

A bait you hate to use
who said soft plastics need to be fished slowly?

So whats the hype with the color"Sexy Shad?"
if the top pros put a hook through a bic pen, and said it caught fish, people would buy it, and then they would say how good it is. Then if they say they used it to win a tournament, you would never be able to find them online. look at lipless crankbaits... good luck trying to find the ones the KVD won with... why? Because people put too much emphasis on the bait, instead of working on their techniques. Buying a bait, a boat, a new rod, reel, etc. will NOT make you a better angler. Just because you bought what someone won a tournament with doesn't mean that you're going to win a tournament too. If KVD wasn't sponsored by SK, and was sponsored by a different company, guess what. He would have won with some other companies bait.

For the Corvette fans...
It's a Z06. Does it need any engine work? doesn't "need" it, but most enthusiasts wouldn't leave it stock. Ever been to a car show and see a stock corvette?
-
lake still iced?
this is a pretty vague question lol

For the Corvette fans...
I love corvettes. Any engine work done? Or just wheels and lip kits.

We mortals could only dream of having a day of bass fishing like this...
I only skimmed it, but I didn't see any sort of evidence at all It happened. I figured it probably did since there was something like that written about it but there have got to be pics or videos or something! What serious big bass fisherman doesn't take a camera? the same kind that "forgot" their scale, and now a 3 pounder is a 7 pounder. Even if you don't have a camera, how many of todays cell phones can't take pictures???? lol

Worst Lure ever bought?
Put them up for sale in the Flea Market. We have plenty of Rage Tail fans. Offer the lot with a reasonable discount and they will sell immediately. -Kent 8-) rage tails have become one of my favorite plastics. the smokin rooster which came out so late in the season, just a few weeks before the lakes froze in my area, will probably be tied on more than any other plastic this year. they will sell FASTER than immediately lol

what time of day
I say all the time, the people that just fish early in the morning and slightly before dark are missing out BIG time. I would say majority of my better fish in 2009 came mid-day.
