  1. don't ever limit yourself based on what "should" or "shouldn't" work. Sometimes all it takes is doing something different than everyone else to put fish in the boat. Experiment, see what works, and keep doing it. If something doesn't work, try something else.
  2. Believe it or not I use my fiance's pole that we got for 20 or 30 dollars, instant anti reverse and I believe a shakespeare rod (not ugly stick) I love that pole, and cry a lil inside when we fish together and I can't use it lol.
  3. perch are stupid fish, and they school, so where there's one there's lots. If you're just getting started and looking for #'s, hard to beat the shoreline, and around docks and swim rafts. if you throw out a nightcrawler on a small hook or jig, and there's perch there, you're almost guaranteed to get one very quickly. When my fiance comes fishing with me, I almost always set her up for panfish because you can catch them every cast. The downside is less fishing time for me, because every 2 seconds i'm taking a fish off, putting a worm on, untangling a knot, etc lol. If you want to get the bigger panfish, can't go wrong with a crankbait. I don't like the little ones, I use the same crankbaits I would use for bass. xraps, dt10's, etc. Use the appropriate depth for the lake your fishing. After you get the hang of it, you'll probably want to start increasing the size of your fish, which will mean hitting the deeper structure along with the hard to reach places... that's where the bigger ones will be. the big ones will not be under the dock with all the smaller ones. My biggest crappie this year have all come from trolling an xrap in 15+ feet of water. Biggest perch have all come pretty shallow, in a few feet of water, but in hard to cast to places. Use ultra light gear, it's much more fun. Catching small fish is very, very lame on a medium pole. But when that nice perch bends your pole in half, that's alot of fun! Couple that with light line, and you now have a fight on your hands!
  4. i've never used a net for bass fishing.
  5. I live on a mountain, with colder water than the surrounding areas, and they are bedding right now. So my guess is at green pond (which is right down the mountain from me) is post spawn right now. the gills are starting to show up on beds (they use the bass beds after they're done) so I can't imagine that green pond would be spawn or pre-spawn at this point.
  6. I can't find a walleye for nothing in my lake!! 2 state records have come out of my lake in the past year (neither were turned in, i'm guessing to keep traffic off the lake... it's a private lake, and nobody wants 100 million boats sneaking in) and I saw a dead 8lber over the weekend. But I can't find them!
  7. Awesome point 8-) That happened to me on a similar occasion with a air filter i changed and they claimed it was needed(Dodge) Yep, happens all the time. Because your average person doesn't know any better, and I bet there's a tremendous amount of people that don't even know where the air filter/spark plugs/tranny filter etc are. a haynes or similar manual will save people thousands. My fiance wouldn't let me change her tranny fluid (this was when we first started dating) until she was quoted almost $200, and the next time we were at walmart I showed her a bottle of fluid for 2 dollars, and a filter for 6 lol. So for 8 dollars I changed it... After that, I was "allowed" to work on the car. Um, you might want to be checking that transmission bud. I've NEVER EVER heard of a 1 quart transmission lol. My small block v-8 holds 16 quarts itself. Who said it was a quart? they come in bigger containers ya know. Up until about a year ago, I was a very prominent member of several car forums, and used to have people from all over come to get help on their car. So when it came to fluids and stuff like that, I always bought the big ones which would end up being cheaper. I got sick of all the punk *** know it all kids after the fast and furious phase, so I haven't been active on any of those forums for a while. Now I buy the "regular" containers. Anyways the point was with some basic knowledge of cars you can save thousands over the life of yours.
  8. my lake is funny, stays very cold, then all of a sudden kinda warms up. It's on top of a mountain, so the water is cold. Within just a few days it went from cold, innactive fish, to warm water and bedding fish. Most people in jersey were in their boat while I was still on the ice to give you an idea. So with that in mind, I love the post spawn lol.

  10. instead of worrying about the color, I would focus on making a better retrieve, and casting to better locations. those 2 things will far outweigh the color you tie on. if he outfished you by that much, you should have asked what he was doing that you weren't. that would have been an amazing source of information.
  11. so, was it really a problem with the head and spark plugs, or did they just tell you that to get 700 out of you?? food for thought. I took my car in with a broken cv joint, (warrenty repair) and had just changed my spark plugs, wires, intake, and air filter the day before... sure enough, the guy calls and says they're going to fix the cv joint for free, but he noticed that my spark plugs and air filter are overdue for a change... obviously he never checked them or he would have seen they were brand new. I change my own spark plugs and wires, it's very cheap, very easy. One thing i learned a long time ago is that if it's not warranty work and 100% fixed for free, the absolute WORST place to take your car is to the dealer.
  12. all of the above.

I have all my important programs set to auto save every 5 minutes. that way if something happens, you don't lose much work.
  14. I don't waste my time on bedding fish, simply watching them will tell you which ones are aggressive and which ones aren't. You can really learn alot by spending 5 minutes and watching what the bass do, how they react to other fish, how they react to baits, how they work as a team, and in my opinion that is a more worthwhile 5 minutes than twitching a worm in it's face and trying to tick it off enough to bite. You will quickly learn that all but the most aggressive fish will not eat what they consider to be a threat, but will either chase it away from the bed or nip at it's tail a little bit. The SECOND your bait moves in a way that is not considered a threat, the fish will forget about it, and look the other way. I use the spawn as a way to learn more about the fish, and it's a great way to learn. Most times of the year, you don't get to really watch the fish like that, in my lake at least.
  15. no prob
  16. is the pond private? If so, they're not used to any kind of fishing pressure, which many times will make them bite a lil easier. I would not recommend putting ANYTHING in the pond that wasn't there without doing some research and homework first.
  17. IAC is near the throttle body, either on top, or next to. I'm not very familiar with the exact location on hondas, but they're pretty much all the same place. the Map is on the intake manifold, and the throttle body connects to the intake manifold, so yes, it should be by the map somewhere. Here's some info about checking the iac, alng with a picture for reference. they all look similar, but not the same... also realize that not the whole part is exposed when it's installed, you're looking for the black part. http://www.2carpros.com/how_does_it_work/how_an_idle_air_control_iac_works.htm
  18. Iac could be the culprit, if it's the maf, i'm not sure why it would only do it when the engine is cold... Checking the iac is easy enough, I would do that first.
  19. the battery is used for ignition, once the car is started the alternator takes over, so it's most likely not the battery. If the alternator is shot, the car will not start after a while, because it won't re-charge the battery. Have you checked your air filter? One possibility is a clogged air filter, and with the damp morning conditions (dew) it's having a hard time breathing until it warms up. Is the car stock? do you do your regular maintenance? use the correct octane gas?
  20. got this one this morning on the spinnerbait with the craw trailer.
  21. Here's a few recent fish. Bass are still sluggish, but they're starting to bite.
  22. great job! and i've noticed the same thing, I caught one today less than 2lbs but by the way it fought i would have thought it was MUCH bigger.
  23. Here's something I haven't seen talked about, I took a 3/8oz sk spinnerbait, and cut 3 "segments" off of the rage bait. What a spinnerbait trailer!! It gives it a little bigger profile than the chunk, but smaller than the others. The arms are going crazy directly behind the skirt.
