If you didn't take a shower after being in the lake water I'm prett sure their won't be a 2nd date with the hot chick! Either that or your version of hot date differs from a lot of others. LOL just razzin ya Congrats on the fish. I'm from Central IL too

I did it!
Also, I did this with a spinning rod, most people probably do it with a bc. Seems to me that a BC would backlash bigtime. Is that the case or not? If not what do you do special to not have it backlash?

I did it!
I gave it a shot and I almost completely learned how to skip a jig. Man this will be helpfull on overhangs, docks etc. I didn't catch anything doing it but I've about got it. One question has anyone ever tried to skip a spinnerbait? I would think that the bif flat blade might help it skip?

I did it YES
First bass of the year and I did it with these lousy temps. Was around 40degs fishing from the bank with a swim bait that I attached a Beetle spin spinner to. Probably around 10-11's maybe right at 1lb. I may be slow but I'm learning. I never ever ever ever catch fish when it is cold I'm still pumped over 1 fish lol!

$100+ Spinning Reels
Hey Muddy, That needed to be said and you said it as well as it could be put. Good luck at Fork everybody

Stradic and Yo Zuri line=problems? (w/ pics now)
Hey RW I have some line twist problems at ttimes. When you put the line out for trolling do you just hold it snug as you reel in to get it to un-twist? by putting the line out loose to get out the twists does it sometimes cause twists right away before starting the untwist? I've got to admit in my limited experience that on the the reels that I've used braided I haven't had near the twist problem (maybe none) and not near the backlash problem when using on baitcasters. I don't think I've caught as many fish vs mono but few or no twists

Reelmech - Rod Repair or Trash?
If you can't move the grip, rather than wrap the threads you might consider a small amount of some brg grease or poss oil. That is what we used in the motor repair industry to keep flanges from having varnish stick to them or nameplates, holes etc. You could put it on with a tooth brush or a too pick. Just a thought.

What do you eat?
lots of mention of water drinking and someone mentioned electrolytes. If you ever see someone suffer heat exaustion you need to get them cooled off of course but this means they could be low on electrolytes. Drinking water could wash away the remaining electrolytes that they have and thus kill them. Some sort of sports drink might save someone, not sure if a soda good or not. Maybe have a sports drink on hand for emergencies. It happened localy to a football player in Bloomington IL and has happened in other situations too mainly with the summer football practices. He may have died anyway who knows. Don't want to hi-jack thread but NCAA, NFL & High schools keep talking about changing this in regards to practices but they don't seem to make this happen. Don't take my word for this I'm not a medical guy this needs to come from someone with more medical knowlege than me.

I Need Some Advice From Members
I think where I've read Bass has money for things like this? Not positive on that one. You should probably also talk to you areas state rep's and Senator and possibly governor after talking to the local mayor etc. Better yet would be to have the mayor contact the rep's and gov. See where the DNR points you before you go to the "officials"

Fishy places
Shallow with wood #1 for me I need to up my talent level on the remainder of the types The weeds I can never get much going all they do is grab my line or lure and make a mess

Catch ratio improvement
Hadn't thought of it from this angle Robert could be it causes the fish to flip around suddenly and thus come loose ( just like if you would be removing the hook) Man I thought this a simple minded post but some great responses. I'm still confused but has made me think and made for great reading

Roland Martin was using power pro.
Same here. His show is my least favorite but I love bass fishing so much I watch it anyway! His kid might be a nice person but his show is even worse. Not so much for the hawking his kid at least seems to teach but every other word is "dude" and to me he comes off as obnoxious. Probably an age thing but still better than watching non fishing.

Catch ratio improvement
will do makes sense thanks for the follow up

Organizing Tackle Boxes in Boat
you could make locking mech's pretty easy. You can use small strap steel sold at any hardware store. Put a hing on one end and a hasp on the other. It wouldn't be fool proof but at least a deterrent. Some of those posts were awesome man you can learn a lot on this site.

Securing old seats to bracket/swivel
Not until I saw Muddy's link did I realize I have the same seats and same problem. KU if you don't want to go to the trouble of the drilling first you might try some crazy glue in the hole that has the right size hole and screw. I think the glue will stick to both the plastic and the metal. For ones that don't you might fill the whole hole with epoxy and re-drill but you might as well go the permanent route for that much work. In the link that Muddy posted those $22 seats look like they fold to me. If you go with new seats I'd put crazy glue in with the screws and coat the top of the bolt like they suggested. Anything to get rid of that annoying bolt hassle is worth it.

WOO HOO GOT MY BOAT
congrats KS have fun with it

Catch ratio improvement
Garnet you've got some good points but are kind of off on some assumptions. First I didn't get any of this from TV. I just put 2 &2 together and figured if the bass is shaking the lure out when in the air it might make sense to keep him in the water. 2nd I'm not crazy enough to just drop my rod and give slack I know that's bad. I reel down and keep contstant tension. Quite often I'm fishing to the side so dropping wouldn't be an issue 3rd I'm not sure about the bad posistion when the fish runs toward the boat seems to me you would have full range of movement to pick up the rod quickly if he ran toward you. It might be be more of a problem for the fish suddenly running away or diving as nowhere to go with the rod 4th so far this has seemed to work better for me I just wondered if anyone else did anything similar 5th Also was wondering if anyone else made a point to reel during the jump & or if anyone else found themselves freezing during the jump. I bet most people freeze and never know it. 6th I'm thinking that my biggest problem is forgetting to consistently set the hook I think I'm still pretty new at fishing so I will definately keep your in the back of my mind though

Shimano Saraha or Pflueger President Spinning Reel
Now that we have successfuly hi-jacked the guys thread I'll try to get it back on track. lol Bass - On spinning reels, the Sahara sells for around the same price as the Pflueger President. I don't own a Sahara so I can't comment about it but I have not read a lot of comments on this site pro or con on it. The President has had many supporters and some cons. For the $20 I'd step up to the Symetre or the Medalist reels as insurance. Both of those have been written about with a lot of high praise and very few neg's. I own both the Symetre and the President but haven't had enough time on the water to judge. If you are the type that gets reels serviced often or are concerned about getting one repaired the Pfluegers seem to be a bit more challenging to get that done. I for one would probably buy a brand new reel for $60 before spending $25 repair and $15 to ship but thats just me. Finaly I think the great Pflueger - Shimano spinning reel debate is as about as passionate an argument as the 85 Bears 79 Dolhins or Steelers 49er greatest ever etc and not likely to go away anytime soon!

Shimano Saraha or Pflueger President Spinning Reel
Muddy good point about the details they were a little sloppy. Apparently the guy did personaly see more Pfluegers of some type come back vs any other brand, on the days that he worked. That seems to be a fact. Exactly what model reels etc seemed sketchy. The guy is also fairly new to the forums. The responses just didn't seem the right way to go. Just MO thats all.
-
Shimano Saraha or Pflueger President Spinning Reel
Man seems the guy stated a fact, never claimed he wa an expert and got ripped for it. He works at a tackle store that sells reels so he sees more reels than any of us probably. The facts are he saw a bunch of Pfluegers come back and not other brands period fact end of story. I happen to like Pfluegers but Bass has a point and I will be keeping my eye out for problems. No offense and not my place but cut the guy a break the working there thing crack seemed uncalled for and not in the spirit of the forum. As far as Abu's they probably do seem to make some good stuff in the C3's or C4's etc but they've also made some real "Zebcoish" junk in the Cardinal series and some others for quite a few years. Nearly all manufacturers make some low end stuff to go with the high end stuff so to imply that Diawa, Abu and Shimano only make quality stuff is definately not factual.

Big Industry News!!!
This has got me confused but you are right that it makes for fun reading if nothing else. Anything about fishing beats this fr%*%@#$# snow and cold!!!!! (got that off my chest thanks). I did think it odd that my Walmart ( a supercenter) never carried quick disconnects for TM's but the other day some showed up in the fishing section. A week later they were in the clearance aisle? Mine still has good supplies of most everything. Their reels have been in the case so long they are looking discolored! lol I keep waiting for that Symetre to be clearanced. JT Bagwell how the heck did you talk to J Kumar? in the QC's ? I always liked him and Zona but I always liked Kumar better, Zona could get under your skin.

Is there such a thing as too much fishing?
The old saying goes that too much of anything "can" be a bad thing may have a little merit. A bunch of great advice comes ahead of me. Ask mom nicely why it is a problem to her. She could be worrying that you are not being social enough IE "fri nights never at a party" See if you can get dad on your side to run point a little for you. If mom has a legit reason make sure you at least listen to her advice. Cut her a deal tell her you wil not go for next 2 fri nights if she will go with you once for 4 hrs. Make sure you take her on a beautiful 70 deg day with some sun and not windy ( every brownie point helps ). Once she goes and either likes it or sees how much you love it she might think differently about it. Maybe try to make a point to go to lunch with mom by yourself every now and then. Remember life is usualy about good balance. You only get to be a kid once I repeat only once! You don't get to go back and do it over again. Don't be 20years down the road saying I wish I would have went out for a play. Or I wish I would have taken out that hot 16yr old blond! lol Like RW said have a meeting with them and get their expectations. Try to pick their brains first to be ready to counter their thoughts or to back yours up.

Boat control effect on fishing
Yes running the TM and having to constantly concentrate on dealing with it instead of only concentrate on fishing. Slightest breeze and its on/off, on-off Sometimes I think it takes away from the fishing but then again you are in a spot that you couldn't get to from the bank!

Fishing from the back of the boat underated?
I've had several times that fishing on a spot yeilded a nice fish but after maybe 10 mins of casting to the same spot. Thus is fishing from the back of the boat being a negative an over stated negative? Not to mention the fact of being able to concentrate on fishing more due to not dealing with the boat

Boat control effect on fishing
I love having and fishing from a boat for the first time in my life. You can get into better spots but if any wind at all then it is a constant battle with the boat. Sometimes I like it better when in my buddies boat so I can concentrate on fishing. Does anyone think that sometimes having to deal with the boat though takes away from your fishing?
