  1. My seven year old son caught +60 bass two Saturday's ago in Miami canal @ the MM34 ramp. An O-ring/wacky setup with a 4" senko will get a bass almost every cast. Those 60 fish might not have weighed 50lbs total, but it is great fun for the kids. The O-ring is a must...makes the senkos last about 5x longer which is important. You will go thru a lot of senkos without it... Me/my dad caught some larger bass on poppers, but you will be hard pressed to catching anything over 2lbs.
  2. Way to go A-Jay. Sounds like you guys had a great time!
  3. Hey, at least you guys are fishing. I've been working and on the road constantly this year. I've been in the boat three times since January, and all three times it was a dink fest. I'm gonna have to change the name of my blog from the "Hawg Blog" to the "Dink Blog".
  4. Delfi_Boyz, First off, let me say...I have 12 patents filed with the US patent office. So, I do recognize that there is a time/place for protecting one's intellectual property. But unless you have a really unique, useful, and differentiable concept (see Steve Parks' "Rage ridges" on his baits) I am not sure that trying to patent a lure geometry is the right way to go. First off, filing a patent is expensive. But, filing and DEFENDING a foreign patent from cheap Asian imitators is VERY expensive. Unless you have the deep pockets to follow through on litigation, IMO, your best bet is to just go for it. Beat any would-be plageurists to the punch. Make sure your product is PERFECT when you are ready to go to market, stand behind it 100%, and then satisfy the &*^%$ out of your customers. If you come out with a good product and with good customer service, your customers will stick with you rather than go for the cheap, Asian imitation. The bass fishing industry is pretty good that way, in my experience. If you want, I could look at your product(s) and give you my advice on how to proceed. I would be happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement. Mike
  5. My buddy Luke Campbell won the BFL on Toho, Saturday. Nailed a 9lber off a bed. Dude's got a pretty sweet jersey... http://www.flwoutdoors.com/bassfishing/bfl/tournament/2013/7011/lake-toho-press-release/154638/campbell-wins-walmart-bfl-event-on-lake-toho/
  6. Check the bulletin board at the back of BPS, Davie (near the bathrooms). There are flyers/business cards for many of the local bass clubs posted there.
  7. Yeah, Jack. That place we fished in the afternoon had some serious fish. Hundreds of beds and most all of them had a buck bass sitting on it. I really thought with the warming trend/new moon situation the big females would have moved in that afternoon. Knowing our luck...a wave of pigs moved in @ about 3:15. I would have loved to fish there Monday/Tuesday...
  8. Looking good, Chuck!
  9. I would guess between 1/50 and 1/100... Pretty good odds for a reel that is probably worth ~$300.
  10. Many of you commented on this reel which I posted up in the "Tacklemaking" section a few weeks ago. It is time for me to let her go... Contest details listed below. ---------------------------------- Anyone who purchases a Hawg Handle in the month of March, will be automatically entered to win the Cardiff reel shown in the picture below. This is a one-of-a-kind reel which I promise you fishes as good as it looks. The reel is only slightly used...maybe 10 hours on it. The side plates are finished with a black hydro-dipped carbon fiber pattern. Of course, the Hawg Handle comes included. We'll even keep the line on there for you. Basically, exactly what you see here in the picture is what you get. To be entered in the giveaway you must purchase a Hawg Handle between 12:01AM March 1, 2013 and 11:59PM March 31, 2013. You can enter more than once. If you purchase more than one handle, you will be awarded separate entries for each handle purchased. The winner will be chosen randomly from all valid entries on April 1st at 8:00PM EST. Good luck to all... Mike and Robert, Hawg Tech, LLC www.hawgtech.com www.facebook.com/hawgtech
  11. Good job,Robert. Glad someone is on em...I fished every spot I know on the South/West ends yesterday, and maybe scraped up 10lbs in 10+ hours. www.hawgtech.com/blog I go to China for 12 days this Sunday. I come back 3/9 and have a KOTG tourney Sunday morning 3/10 out of Slims. I'll be donating...lol
  12. We got it at a local auto body shop.
  13. It's an automotive clear coat. DC2000.
  14. That is another problem...some of those areas are a little steep and might be a problem with dipping. Another reason to try the frame on a test reel first.
  15. Yeah, I use 1.5" PVC. it does sway around a little bit when the boat is rocking. You won't be able to replicate the mounting scheme exactly with your setup, but this might lead to some ideas. PVC is easy to work...easy to make your own fittings/mounts/etc... This setup works good for me. My mounting pole is 8ft long and it fits in my rod holders, when I'm running.
  16. Fishwhittler, Yes, you can dip the frame. Have to be very careful with the masking/etc so as not to mess with the tight tolerancing of some of the moving components (frame/spool, etc) I am not yet brave enough to try it. Might try it on an old reel I don't use anymore.
  17. Sweet reel. That will look great on a veritas!
  18. Thanks guys. Here is a better picture from our facebook page.
  19. Just got done putting this reel together. Just a quick cell phone picture (which is not doing justice to this reel at all). This thing is sweet. I'll try and get some better ones tomorrow. On this one, I did a silver base coat to match the stock Citica color, black print over the silver, and then clear/clear on the top coat.
  20. Yeah man, you're having fun. That's what it's all about. Good job.
  21. Mark, here is that picture. Now, this is the only reel I have right now that does not have the cork grips....Me and Robert bought a couple of these Crucial rods when they were on sale recently on Tackle Warehouse ($99!) I like the grips to match the rod, so I took the knobs off a G Series Curado. I put the Hawg Tech silver end caps in the Shimano grips. I also tweaked the reel a little bit, putting the aluminum star drag and spool tension knob from an E series Curado on it. I micro polished the bearing surfaces on this reel and replaced the spool bearings with ABEC7 ceramic hybrids and rocket fuel oil. This thing launches 1/2oz traps 60 yards easily with that 7'11" Crucial crankbait rod and 12lb mean green mono. I used to love tinkering with my old 60s/70s hot rods...making em look cool, customizing stuff, increasing the performance. Still love doing it, but on a little smaller scale.
  22. Sorry I'm a little late to this party. The Hawg Handle does look cool on a Sol... And on a Revo... Revo Twitchfish, if you have any questions at all, send me an IM. Thanks, Mike
  23. Most companies now have these cameras running to capture these type incidents (which are very frequent) and help deal with the ensuing litigation.
  24. The video below shows a guy I work with almost becoming a grease spot on a snowy Chinese roadway. I've been to China 26 times since 2003, and can tell you that I have been in this situation more than a few times.
