  1. I have about 20 combos and I use 50lb Sufix on all braided rigs (frogs, swimbaits, jigs, flipping, etc...) and 10lb Yozuri Ultra Soft copoly on everything else (topwater, jerkbait, worm, finesse, etc...)
  2. I've used primarily Tuf Line, Power Pro and Sufix 832 the past few years. They're all good. I think I like the 832 a little bit better than the others, but the difference in performance is not that great. The 832 seems to cast a little better and might be a little better in wind. It's a little stiff at first, but limbers up quickly. I'm sticking with 832 this year but going forward, I'll buy the other brands if I can find a screaming deal on them.
  3. Agreed on the pointers...I won't normally spend that kind of money on a bait, but in the case of the LC pointers I definately see a difference in the amount of fish I catch versus the competitors.
  4. Great job, Dwight. I'm glad you and Robert are having some fun out at Lox. I love that place. I wish I could have joined you guys out there yesterday...
  5. The top 12 finishers at Okeechobee a few weeks ago were all using soft baits. The winner and second place guy (McMillan, Tharp) were fishing within casting distance of each other, both flipping a Bruiser Intruder. Third place guy (Prough) was also using an intruder and an RI Trixie Shark. Dean Rojas was throwing a frog. Powroznik was fliping a Jacobug. Virtually everyone else in the top 12 was throwing a soft swimbait (skinny dipper/Big Ez) and flipping craws. The only guy in the top 12 who mentioned hard baits at all was Terry Scroggins who was using a Devils Horse at times. He was pitching craws also, though. I think it really depends on what type of water you're fishing. I think, in general, pros prefer to use hard baits to target aggressive fish, but you're not going to be able to use those hardbaits in the Okeechobee slop ...

  7. First off, 20 missed fish isn't that bad. A good frog angler is still going to miss a fairly high percentage of fish. Just the nature of that beast... Having said that though, I think most people have nailed on the high points of increasing your hook up percentage with frogs...1.) you've got to resist the urge to hit em right away. This is tough, at first, and requires a bit of "deprogramming", especially if you've used a lot of hardbaits. 2.) Use braid. I don't necessarily agree that you want a real stiff rod. What you want, IMO, is a rod that has a fairly soft tip but a lot of backbone. You want a little compliance, for those surprise bites when you don't have the ability to immediately drop the bait. The softer tip also allows for longer casts which is essential when fishing frogs. A 735 rod is perfect, IMO, for frog fishing. One of the things which really helped me when I first started frog fishing was holding the rod high (like RoLo described). If you hold the reel close to your chest and the rod tip high, it makes it alot harder to immediately set the hook when the fish hits. Until you learn how to wait on a frog bite, this is a good mechanism for ensuring you don't set the hook too soon.
  8. I've been using 832 exclusively this year on my braided rigs, and it DOES fade. It's some good stuff, though.
  9. Check out the Mann's Shadow. This bait is hooked texposed through the side (rather than through the bottom). It inherently has a more horizontal fall because of the water drag as it falls sideways. My brother-in-law caught the biggest bass I've ever seen come out of Loxahatchee Reserve on a Mann's shadow.
  10. Yeah...The 735C has almost the perfect action for frogs, IMO. The rod tip loads to throw light weight spros and horny toads but has enough backbone to pull a big fish out of slop. You just can't get the distance throwing a broomstick. You gotta get the bait out there in that shallow water.
  11. I have four of the rods on this list. While the Savvy is my favorite of the four rods, I voted for the Veritas. In terms of pure value for the money, the Veritas is one of the best values out there, IMO.
  12. Dobyns 735c (pitch-n-flip) Quantum Accurist PT 7:0-1 Sufix 832 #50
  13. Shane, I prefer to go on weekdays, when it's not such a zoo. I am a novice on this lake compared to Bruce, Kenny, Dale, Robert, etc...But, if you don't mind fishing with a novice, let me know. I can usually swing it if I have a little advance notice to arrange my schedule.
  14. I went to Okeechobee today with my Dad. It was a pretty casual trip...fished 10:00-3:00, mainly chuckin' and windin'. Managed to catch about 15 with two nice 4lb chunkers. Fished around the shoal north of Uncle Joes up toward Cochrans.
  15. Sheesh Steve. You don't mess around. That thing is fat as a cow...surf and turf. lol
  16. Froggin in the slop. That's what it's all about right there. Dan, I really like your frogs also...I got to throw one fishing with Eric. Really nice day today....I would have killed to get out there this morning. Water temp just getting into the 70s...it's froggin time!!
  17. Those mudfish will break your heart. LOL...I had about a 30lb bag of mudfish yesterday.
  18. Nice work guys. Dwight, I'm glad Robert put you on some fish. That place can be really fun at times, especially when you get em going on the flats. I went out there yesterday...did OK. Didn't catch a lot...maybe 15, but average size was good. Had a 3 and two 4s and dropped an absolute hawg about ten minutes before leaving. Came clear out of the water and spit the hook... I got too good of look at her... :'( :'(
  19. Robert, it is looking like Tuesday for me. I'll send you a PM...
  20. Bruce, I fished some of those same areas out by the shoal. Saw a bunch of beds but no fish. We've got 4-5 days of warm, stable weather coming...looks like the fishing is gonna be good. I'm heading out there Tuesday.
  21. Robert, my Dad took my golf cart out yesterday and slayed them at my golf course. Called me at lunch rubbing it in...Two over 4. > > Spinning rod with jig head/yamamoto hula grub.
  22. Jigging spoons were my bass fishing New Years Eve resolution this year. I bought some Luhr Jensen jigging spoons around Christmas and have tried them a little bit in the deeper rim canals during some of the cold snaps we've had. I haven't caught a fish with it yet, but I haven't given it a lot of time either...
  23. Yeah...great fighters. The cool thing is you can jig them just like bass...rootbeer jig with gulp trailer. They just destroy it.
  24. I have not been very happy with my 7' Medium/Moderate glass crankbait rod. It is not well suited for deep cranking or ripping traps thru grass. I basically use it to fan cast traps/shallow cranks for schooling bass in open water. It's not well suited for anything else. I end up using my finesse rod (Avid 7' M/F) for ripping traps and my worm rod (Avid 7' MH/F) for deep cranks. I am in the market to replace this 7' M/M glass rod, and I will almost certainly go graphite...
