  1. Here in florida anything that has had standing water for more than a year or two seems to have bass in it. I've caught bass out of ditches, tiny creeks, and disgustingly dirty retention ponds. One of my best spots was a 2 acre lowland that had about 2 feet of water in the deepest spots, most is around 6-8 inches. Before it dried up in a drought 3 years ago I could wade it and catch 50+ fish there a day, some over 5lbs. It also had some monster bowfin in it.
  2. I get a lot of good deals there. The one near me has had Suffix 832 for $13 a spool for a few weeks now.
  3. The Zoom Speed Craws work really well for me. I use both and they both catch a ton of fish.
  4. Zoom. Trick worms, speed craws, speed worms, flukes, and baby brush hogs probably catch 3/4 of all of my fish. I really like the Havoc and Big bite brands also. Pit Boss, Juice Worms, and Cane Thumpers especially.
  5. Was looking around in Academy not expecting to spend much money (yeah right lol) and while looking through the rods I saw a bunch of All Star Team rods marked down from 79.99 to 49.99. Mixed it with them I saw one All Star Micro spinning (6'10 ML XF) with a 49.99 tag on it even though the other sticker on it said $129.99. Grabbed it and took it up to the register and it scanned full price but they gave it to me for the sticker price. Then of course I had to come home and order a reel. Ended up getting a Shimano Symetre 2500fl. First Shimano reel I've ever bought. I haven't had a spinning setup in my arsenal for years now. Time to start throwing some shakey heads lol.
  6. Love the Cut-R worm and the Recon. Dang bluegills keep taking the tail off the the Cut-R though.
  7. Got this one today. Not huge but a lot better than what I've been catching lately.
  8. Lews Speed Spool for $75 from an ebay store, spend $25 on more tackle.
  9. He text me that pic and my jaw dropped, beast of a fish.
  10. I have the same reel and I love it, it's been my workhorse reel for almost 2 years now and it's been perfect. As for the brakes I pretty much just keep 2 on/2 off and keep the external brakes at 0 and adjust depending on the wind conditions. If your not comfortable with that yet start at about the halfway or 3/4 point and work down from there.
  11. Been catching a lot of numbers lately, no pigs yet though. April-June last year is when I caught most of my bigger fish so maybe it'll be that way this year also. Had to fight off the bait monkey saturday though, almost bought a Chronarch 200e7 and a Curado that I really don't need lol.
  12. Na, went out there yesterday and didn't catch anything. The water is super clear, didn't even see a bass. Did run into a 4 foot water moccasin though. The pond I was catching them in was off of Cecil Commerce Center/New World Ave.
  13. Fishing seems to be picking up here. Tried a new spot I found on my way home from work for about an hour and caught 7 fish. None were huge but still a lot of fun. Got them on a Watermelon Red Magic Speed Craw. Any of you Jax guys ever fish that pond behind the Equestrian Center on Normandy Blvd? It's been there for 10 years according to google earth and it seems to have a lot of nice vegitation in it.
  14. I grew up always using lefty spinning reels and made the switch to righty baitcasters quite a few years ago. You get used to it after a while. I actually tried using a LH baitcaster and it just felt really weird. Didn't like it at all. Still use all of my spinning stuff with the reel handle on the left though.
  15. Hey man haven't seen you around here in a while. I'm actually working out in Macclenny now. You have any good spots out there? I've been throwing a rod in the car with me when I go to work but I haven't seen any good spots yet.
  16. KVD 1.5 Trick worm 3/8oz White Willow/Colorado Spinnerbait 3/8oz Black/Blue jig with a craw trailer 6" Lizard
  17. Fishing the heavy rains in the spring/summer is my favorite. I always seems to catch quality fish.
  18. I've pulled a lot of 5+ pound fish out of some of these tiny retention ponds around here. The big fish are there it's just tough to get a bite from them. You'll get a big one eventually.
  19. This weather is getting nice. Hopefully I'll actually be able to fish this month.
  20. I'm still alive, and I'm in. The lack of daylight and the holidays making for long work days kept me off the water most of last month. Hopefully I can get out more this time.
  21. The weather and the lack of time in the day has really hurt my fishing time. Hoping to get out soon though.
  22. The weather here is just disgusting. It's in the 50s, 30mph wind, rain. No fishing for me. Good call on the MF XF. That should be a fine worm/frog rod.
  23. Check out the *** Black by ***. It's the best rod I've used in the $100 range and I've had quite a few. It's a really nice rod for the price. You can get them locally at Gander Mountain. For soft plastics and frogs I'd suggest a MH F or XF. You could get away with a medium though.
  24. I was right, the fish were on FIRE today. Caught 12 fish in about 2 hours of fishing. All of these fish were caught on a Redbug U-Vibe Speedworm, 30# Suffix 832, 7'1 MF *** Black, Lews SS Tournament. I was pulling the speedworm across the surface near pads, grasslines, and submerged vegetation. 17" 16.5" 16.5" 15.5" 19" I needed a fast start. After time rolls back I'll only be able to fish like twice a week instead of the 3-5 I do now.
  25. With the cold front coming in tomorrow today should be a really good day. I hope I can get out after work today. I'm dog tired but I wanna get some fish.
