  1. went down to the lake today to get some mail and wow the water was clear. I saw around 12-15 bass swimming around my boathouse. All between 10-14 inches as well as a massive carp that kept tryin to get my senko. I had to keep pulling my worm out of the water so my fishing was limited. Also saw alot of catfish as always between 1-2 pounds . So Im thinkin Im gonna get one of those automated fish feeders and install it on the dock so the bigger fish move in. I did catch a few small ones while I was there and lost one that was probably around 3 pounds. All on a 5 inch senko texas rigged weightless. The wacky senko was gettin no love from those bass. I was only there fishing for about 45 minutes maybe. This was around 1pm, temp outside was 54 degrees and the water of course was warm and crystal clear. I could see 5 feet down into the water no problem. I wanna get back there with my boat asap ;D I did see 3 different bassboats flyin by my house and that was it. The water is like glass also. Pretty good conditions for fishing if you ask me. Oh and yes NewAngler you gotta spot on my boat since no one else called it, my gf will have the other seat Im sure. Back on topic, think Im gonna hit riverside tommorow if I can. Thai you up for some shore fishing ? High tide should be around lunch time right ? Imma check now. Oh and LHC plz post some pics!!
  2. dont expect much of a tourney. This will be my first time fishing from a boat during the cold weather. I have only fished from my boat house in the winter before. So I dont know the spots to go from boat. But I have done some research on what to look for and what to throw. I just read reports of people catching 20 bass a day right now on elk creek which is where my house is. Mostly between 1.5 and 3 pounds. Shakey heads, wacky senkos, crankbaits and carolina rigs are all good right now. Theres tons of boat docks down there and the wacky rigged senko is supposed to be deadly pitched around and under the docks. Theres also alot of rip rap areas which will be holding some fish and then of course the dikes. I do know of one real nice cove thats chaulk full of lilly pads during the summer, its a few acres in size when u get back there but the water is between 2-3 feet back there limiting big boats such as mine. Im pretty sure those lilly pads are fine right now but not sure if theres fish around them at all. Its less then a mile from my house so I will go back there right away and see for myself. The possibilities are endless right now but I have to explore some of course. Thats what will be great about havin 3 or 4 boats out there at once is that we can all check out different areas and cover more ground that way. Im not lookin at this like a tourney as much as a fishing trip. Oh and btw, the bass spawn there during february ;D A february outing will be a must as well.
  3. ok so far I have at least myself, soccplayer, rockvillemdangler and vabasser for possible boaters. Do you guys all have GPS in your boats ? Im assuming none of you know your way around the hotside, specifically the Elk Creek area. The good thing is that there is a small island about 100 feet offshore from my house with a lighthouse on it that my neighbor built. So it serves as a good landmark for boaters tryin to find their way back. Then Thai and Dan get preference for non boaters right now. So that will leave space for 3-4 more people maybe 5. Also EGolfer might wanna come down with his boat, I have yet to talk to him. I know Shimmy wants to go, and I know a few other people have posted sayin they wanna go as well. So what I will do is propose a date for this, most likely a day trip. Might involve an overnight stay, cant say for sure. I know not everyones schedule will work out. So its a majority rules kinda deal. Im not gonna schedule around one person or anything like that. Im shooting for sometime in the next 3 weeks or so, it will be before xmas, that I know for sure. I will post more later. I do not wanna start a thread about it tho since Im probably already close to capacity as it is. This time I will remember to put the drain plug in before the boat goes in the water Thai and I almost watched my stratos sink the other day in front of belle haven lmao. Actually wasnt so funny at the time. Anywho, more details later. PM me to discuss so we can keep this thread on track. And for those of you who dont already know, the private/warm side of lake anna has so so fishing when its warm outside but during the winter it really springs to life. Should be a good time.
  4. I used it till recently. Snapped off a few heavy baits while casting and the line was only a few months old. I check everytime for knicks in the line too. I think it is way way overpriced. Much better line out there for the money. I wont waste my money on it again.
  5. if you use real yamasenkos they will get torn up fast using the average baitcaster unless you have something like a steez , sol, or daiwa pixy that will cast light stuff with ease. Using a spinning reel seems to put less torque on the worm when your casting it. I was using one of my zillions to throw senkos but now I use my sol spinning reel . That zillion seems to tear them up before long. You cant go wrong with a decent spinning reel to throw senkos. I think the rod is more important to consider then the reel when it comes to senkos. I use my 7'2 crucial drop shot rod. Just my 2 cents.
  6. Im bidding on some high end japanese reels on ebay but have no clue what the import tax is once they arrive in the USA. And I tried googling it and couldnt find anything. The reels are gonna end up being somewhere between 250-325 or so. Can someone help me out before I overspend please. Thanks.
  7. ya know I thought for a moment of changin my display name to Potomac Angler just to mess with everyone but then thought better of it. Could have made for some fun/confusion. I'll stick with being one of many steve's on here. I tried a few and had to settle for the gayish underscores. And when Im ready I'll find something else more interesting to call myself.
  8. I meant 20 yards, obviously a typo. I'll only be able to take a certain number of people to lake anna. Maybe about 9-10 people besides me. So if youre intersted, those of you who fished the fish off on saturday then lemme know. We'll try and set something up where everyone can make it out. While Im there I wanna drop some brushpiles down around my boathouse and out in a few spots. So anyone with experience doing so please get at me. This will be my first time attemtping to do so
  9. I have lost a few things when out on the water. Hopefully the wallet turns up. Hope u didnt have too much cash in there.
  10. Oh and gorgeous dog Thai, looks exactly like the guy's that lived on my street when I was in high school except his was smaller. Rare color too. He'd make a fine duck hunting dog haha. Im sure anyone on this forum can shoot better then those drunk hillbillies yesterday who couldnt hit a goose 20 years in front of them, too funny.
  11. you shoulda come down and fished with the rest of us! You would have been able to get over to Mattawoman, too! You're right, we rolled the dice fishing up north and it didnt pay off. We talked to a guy who caught 2 on crankbaits that were both close to 4 pounds. That could have been us tho ya know. I hate to second guess myself or Thai but I think we would have done better in Mattawoman especially at high tide early, the buzzbait and frog bite there is still decent. But we didnt expect the rough windy conditions up north, it wasnt mentioned on weather.com when I checked for wind. There were gusts that had to be close to 20 mph at blue plains so we couldnt really skip senkos under the dock as planned. If I had been smart or better prepared and put more gas in the boat then we could have shot down south to where you guys were but I just didnt have enough fuel in my sherman tank of a boat. Mattawoman and the area surrounding is my neck of the woods and I can usually at least pull out a few 2 and a half pounders this time of year. We will have to organize a fish off for spring, maybe in april ? We have enough time to get more people and boats. Would be wise to do it right before tourney season kicks off so we dont step on anyones toes. We can do it this time out of lessylvania and then maybe have a shindig/bbq at my house right after since I live less then 4 miles away. I wouldnt be surprised to see everyone catch at least a 3 pounder and a few 5's and 6 pounders too. I will start a thread in february if you guys think it's a good idea. People from richmond, fredericksburg, NOVA, MD, all would be welcome. I think Im done with the river till then, probably gone hit my lake house in another few weeks or so for some warm water bass action. That part of the lake is warm in the winter and people catch some hogs too. If a few of you guys are down for that then lemme know as well.
  12. just curious if any of you caught one bigger then my biggest ? Mine was 1.8 which is pitiful but fishin the main river was hard work yesterday. Here is thai's biggest fish and my only fish. His was 1.6, I never thought the day would come where I would be showing off pics of sub 2 pound bass :-/
  13. didnt get my 6 pounder today or even one half that. Was too windy to enjoy fishing today anyways. I wish spring would hurry up and get here. I need a vacation.
  14. we just did alright out there today. After an eventful launch which entailed me forgettin to put the drain plug in and realizing it once the boat was all the way in the water, we then set out for the spoils. Thai caught two 1 and a half pounders there within about 30 minutes. I once again managed to lose a 10 dollar spinner bait that snapped off when I cast. P line sucks. Then we moved on to blue plains but stayed for maybe 5 minutes, then off to mt vernon where Thai caught two more and I caught my only fish which was 1.8 pounds. He was a bit long and skinny or else he might have been a lil closer to 3, oh well. Was a rough stressful day out there, very windy. I made the mistake of gettin behind a yacht which threw me some 5 foot waves. We were airborne for a few seconds lol. First time I ever gotten wet in my stratos. The river kicked my a$$ today. At least I got the boat home safe and sound. And on top of that someone bought the silver daiwa pixy I was gonna buy on here, Im not happy. Such is life.
  15. Hopefully tommorow is my day. Bout to hit the sack in a few so I can be up by 7 to be on the water out of belle haven at 9am. High tide will be around 11am up that way so it should be a day to land some big biggins. I just have a feelin Im gonna catch a 6 pounder tommorow. All my jig trailers have been marinating in some foul smellin crawfish scent since this afternoon
  16. nothing wrong with keepin it secret. I use to tell people my supra was stock, then they heard the loud cams and huge turbo spool up, was kinda a dead give away at that point. Boat is the same deal, you can say what u want but once a game warden hears it then your busted :-? From what I understand they can hear the difference in a 15 and a 9.9 especially when your doing 25 mph on the water.
  17. kudos to Dan for donating his time and doing something positive for the community. Nice to see young kids getting serious about fishing too.
  18. meaning a 15hp with 9.9 decals mwahaha
  19. just to clarify, Im feelin good and am on antibiotics however myself and Thai will be fishing pretty far from you guys around DC. And I dont wanna have to spend 40 bux in gas just to come 15 miles down river and show off our 5 pounders. I'm sure you guys will have a blast. Theres alot of wood on the oqc. river and Im willing to bet it will have alot of boats on it too. Im just kinda tired of fishing that part of the river lately and prefer to go after the bigger fish up north. You guys should catch a decent amount of 2-3 pounders tho if you know what youre doing. The baby buzzbait(eighth ounce) early in the mornin in that calm no wake zone water might work well btw. Also dont forget about the rock jetties by leesylvania for those of you in small boats. You can throw crankbaits and do well there. Theres no big waves there to worry about. If something changes then we'll show up but dont count on us being there.
  20. is this a joke ?
  21. How long is this gonna be ? 8am till ? And how many fish?
  22. I'm sick again, infact I have never really been right since I got sick in August so I probably wont be fishing until I feel better , so who knows. If I do feel better by then I'll fish the potomac and post pics on the scale of my 2 biggest fish if I even catch 2. I think it should just be a lunker challenge. Biggest fish wins, simple as that.
  23. how much did it weigh ? And I didnt know catfish ate bass. Can that big cat even catch a 2 pound bass ?
  24. You're suggesting someone eat their pet fish ? You have to be a cold hearted person to do that. I rather just take it to a pet store and let them have it before I eat it. You realize how creepy that sounds dont you ?
  25. This is right by my house if anyone wants me to go see it for them. Impossible deal to beat for $200. You just need a trailer or huge truck to move it around. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/boa/1468389148.html Look at this for $150!!I don't understand thats crazy cheap! http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/boa/1460512091.html
