  1. Well next week theres gonna be some mid 40's sunny days so Im goin to lake anna if anyone else wants to go. I might have a spot in my boat and if any boaters wanna come then lemme know. We're gonna go mid week right before rush hour one day and come back the next evening. Not gonna promise we're gonna slam'em but we should def catch a few.
  2. I know a few of you guys have been hittin the river, so post up. The spoils and blue plains must be good right bout now. My boat is down at lake anna in the garage and I just dont feel like messing with it right now or maybe I would venture out.
  3. I use both. Spinning for smaller senkos and baitcaster for 5 and 6 inch senkos. I will say tho if you use real yamasenkos you will tear them up faster with a baitcaster.
  4. Thai got skunked ? Whats the world coming to...
  5. I just bought a brand new in the box steez for 336 bux shipped, same price basically as a core. It's a lil nicer then the core no doubt but then again dawia is nicer then shimano across the board in general. If you're interested in a sol and fuego baitcaster I have an extra fuego I would sell you and a sol. I live an hour from you and Im down in ashland sometimes so we could meet up. You will love both reels and mine are in great condition. The fuego is great for casting light stuff so is the sol. I like the fuego better personally but some people would disagree. I wouldnt bother with a core when you can get a steez on ebay all day for 350 bux. Even my girlfriend got a lil jealous the other day when my steez arived cuz i kept touching it and caressing it haha. It is sexy indeed. PM me if you want the fuego and sol, I would sell you both with the boxes and manuals for 240 bux, the sol is basically mint condition and the fuego is very close to the same condition. Both are about 6 months old.
  6. all i see in my dreams is hot chicks and daiwas ;D
  7. I just ordered a 600 yard spool of 6 pound test and 10 pound test, also gonna be ordering the soft version for my spinning reels. It sux on spinning gear cuz the memory is horrible and it tends to get knotted up very easily. Thats why Im gettin the soft low memory version for my spinning gear. Hopefully the regular hybrid works well on my baitcasters or i will be stuck with 1200 yards of useless line >
  8. Merry xmas and happy festivus. And I hope u arent talkin bout southeast dc Im all alone till my old lady gets back from ashland with her kids. They will be here for a few days with us, should be fun. On a sidenote, not only did she get me a daiwa pixy and a gps for xmas, she got me a nintendo wii and the new fishing game for it. Think I might go trade it in for an xbox instead. I plan on buying myself a pelican style 2 person bass boat for xmas. Very good xmas indeed, the best part is Im healthy, alive and have alot to be thankful for especially having the potomac river only 3 miles away ;D
  9. sounds like you had a good 2 hours out there. Im assuming thats about all u could take was 2 hours of that freezing weather. Man I would have walked a lil to catch a dozen crappie and 4 bass. If you go next week then holla at me. Maybe I could try out my pixy on those crappie since I dont have any medium light soinning gear.
  10. I would like to give 4 mile run another try but all that walkin tires me out not to mention the Ravens play the steelers on sunday and I aint missin that. Good luck guys
  11. The extreme xps rods are on clearance thru the BPS fall angler catalog for 69 dollars and for the money cannot be beat. If u go to the store and show them the catalog they will give u the sale price. I have a few of them and they arent far behind my st croix avid. They are very light and fairly balanced. Im upgrading to all GLX rods so my gf will be gettin my st croix 7 foot mh casting rod as well as one of my xps extremes. She loves bass fishing as much as me and no shes not a hillbilly haha
  12. never used one but the reviews say they are great and right there with the daiwa steez. plus u can get some pretty sweet deals on the core these days, cheaper then the steez. I will stick with the steez tho, Im a Daiwa guy and always will be.
  13. insane deal but i still think the strike king KVD spinnerbait I got at walmart on clearance for 25 cents takes the cake for best deal ever haha. that was a 5-6 dollar spinnerbait. percentage wise it was the best deal ever. too bad they didnt have more then one. This was about 6 weeks ago btw. merry xmas
  14. sorry bout that, we will stay on topic here, in fact this thread is outdated now anyways. And I dont even think any of us nova guys fished this past week anyways ;D time for a new thread me thinks
  15. Im bout to send one of my fuegos off for supertuning. Im gettin the carbontex drag, spool bearing upgrade, polishing of internal parts, worm shaft spacer and collar, and of course having the bearings lubed properly. Also sending my pixy to the same guy for pixilla upgrades. I wouldnt bother spending money on a new spool for the fuego tho, thats goin overboard imo. To each their own tho. It already casts light stuff a mile out of the box.
  16. on a sidenote i found a seller on ebay who sells alot of the glx rods for 280 shipped new. using bing dotcom cash back which is currently at 8 percent brings u around 260 shipped ! probably gonna be ordering 2 or 3 for now till i sell all my other rods then I can get a few more.
  17. he might get mad and no longer show me where fish are oops :-? ah well, its all in good fun
  18. Yes quite a list indeed and that is the condensed version And trust me the BCR893 is at the top of my list for a reason. Its the rod Im gonna at least 35 percent of the time. I fish 5 inch senkos, 1/8 ounce buzzbaits, topwater plugs(poppers and walking)stanley ribbits and swim jigs the most. I plan on punchin mats alot more this coming year tho and fishing carolina rigs more too. The only rod Im not so sure bout is the frog rod, should I try the new loomis frog rod or will something from the glx lineup suit my needs better ? And I agree the more I think bout it, the 853 might suit my texas rigged worm needs better then the 803. Ijust think the 803 is a great versatile rod that i need in my collection. If I get a better deal on the 853 then Im gonna get it but I see alot of good deals on the 803 all the time, seems like a popular rod in the for sale sections, i wonder why.
  19. Havin spent the last hour researchin all the glx casting rods I thought the same thing, the 854 is a better choice. So far I have a list of the rods I think suit my needs, I still havent been thru the entire glx lineup but here is what I have so far to cover my basic techniques: BCR893 Senko rod 7'5 mh extra fast BCR875 Carolina rig 7'3 mag heavy fast (punchin mats) CR722 "walk the dog" for topwater plugs 6' medium fast BCR852 buzzbait rod 7'1 medium ex fast BCR854 deep water jig rod heavy cover 7'1 heavy ex fast BCR803 6 inch texas worm rod 6'8 MH ex fast BCR863 light pitchin/flippin/small medium swimbaits 7'2 MH fast BCR894 flippin stick 7'5 heavy fast
  20. I was lookin into some GLX rods to pair up with my new steez, pixy and tdz and have a few questions. One description of the GLX BCR853 said "A really well balanced worm rod for deep-water applications. Designed more for open-water situations where the cover isn't too thick, but will surprise you when you need to put the pressure on even a big bass" I dont get it, this is a medium heavy extra fast so why wouldnt it handle thick stuff ? I fish alot of grass on the potomac and never have a problem with my medium heavy rods and even my mediums. Is there a better choice in the glx lineup for fishing soft plastics in grass ? How does loomis's version of medium heavy compare to st croix or shimano ? Are they under powered ?
  21. wow that sucks. My question is, if I'm living on 8-10 acres of land, how is anyone even gonna know what Im doin on my land ? I guess I'm gonna have to get lucky and find a house with the perfect pond already there which wont be hard. Theres tonsof new listings out in the country hittin the market every day. Has anyone been out and fished since the snow got here ? I can picture Thai with snow shoes on standing there in a ski mask flippin jigs
  22. I was talkin to Thai the other day about ponds and insurance. I never thought bout it but it makes some sense. I should talk to Paul about ponds, he seems to be the resident expert on all things ponds. Any good forums for managing ponds and buildin them ? I plan on makin one a lil under an acre, that is unless my new place already has one. I was telling Thai about a house I found for sale- 750 grand and it comes with a 10 acre fully stocked fishing pond!! And another I found on 28 acres with not only a pond but also a small river running thru it, that one was much cheaper, around 230 grand or so. Tammy used to have pet mallards and she wants more when we move. So the pond is basically gonna be there home more or less. Sounds crazy but my ole lady is like the "wild animal whisperer" Back in september she caught a copperhead that was playing with our cat in the front yard. She actually reached down and grabbed it by the head with her bare hands, talk about crazy! I actually video taped me chopping that snakes head off in my kitchen, I should put it on youtube come to think of it.
  23. all this talk bout snakes and gators...I'll just stick with my ankle biter dogs for now. Once I move next year and get some acreage Im gonna have a bunch more animals including chickens, horses, goats, ducks, a pig or two but def no snakes or gators. Thats right guys ole steve is gonna basically be livin on a farm. I will be needing some help digging out my pond with a bobcat and then stocking it if anyone is up for a project. I actually found a house right on the James river on almost 1.5 acres for a lil over 200 grand but its not enough land for me or I would be all over it. On a sidenote, us NOVA guys are losing this forum to guys from down south!! Now its winter they are takin over >
  24. Who would you have build a custom for you? Are they local? No idea who I would have build them. I just found a few new glx rods for cheap tho that Im thinkin bout buying. I wonder how costly it would be to have the handles ripped off and rebuilt with carbon fiber split handles. I need someone to photoshop carbon fiber handles on glx rods so I can see how it would look.
