My first snakehead-Potomac River
Ya it surely won't be my last. I found a spot that is chalk full of snakeheads. My buddy has been catching several every time he goes to this same area. So I plan on catching and destroying as many as I can . probably wont make a dent in the population but every one that I kill wll at least help a little. I been goin to this spot so much that I totally forgot bout going to Lake Anna cold side for some bedding bass.

Ya I looked at some areial pics before I went out there. I'll go back there at some point when I decide to launch out of Aquia, it took me 30 bux in gas just to get there and back from leesylvania which seems like a waste to me. Here's a pic of my first snakehead which I caught yesterday in mattawoman

My first snakehead-Potomac River
ya I saw that and I would hate to have to even deal with that monster. This one I caught got filleted as soon as I parked my boat in my driveway. I also made fillets with another one thats around 7 pounds that my buddy caught tonite. Plus I still have two giants in my freezer. I have enough to last me all summer considering you cant eat it or anything out of the river but once a month or so

My first snakehead-Potomac River
Well it finally happened. And what's funny is that when I first got on the water tonite , my buddy was already out there on his boat and had a snakehead in his net as we pulled up in my boat. So I took it off his hands to cook up and trolled away. While we were fishing I was being grumpy cuz I never get to catch them. Fast forward two hours, I tie on a baby minus 1 and catch this in about 16 inches of water. Weighed over 4 pounds, not a monster but meaningful to me since it's my first.

Sounds like Im gonna need to drag you out there with me one day so we can get on these monsters. Anyone else ever fished mallows bay ?

another potomac thread
When I was there the water was muddy but I bet when it's clear it's easier to deal with. I had a few nervous moments when I almost hit stuff trolling around. I was there when the tide was goin out and almost low tide. No wind made it easier to manage too. I would guess at high tide you gotta be extra careful . That is my fave spot I have been to on the river. Even tho I only caught 3 bass out there , Im sure there are tons more in there and some giants at that. It was just a cool spot to fish imo. Only 1 other boat out there in the couple hours we were there.

Oh and I went to Mallows Bay the other day , heres a pic of my first bass there ever. Caught on a red baby minus 1. Also caught a 13 pound catfish that day too on the same crankbait. The second pic is a lil football fish I caught that was the length of a two pounder but weighed about twice that, talk bout a short lil chunk.

another potomac thread
Only caught 7 fish yesterday, spent 4 hours out there . My gf had the biggest fish of the day and her only fish but she was too shy to take pics with it. All of our fish came on a wareagle spinnerbait, best spinnerbait for the potomac imo.

2 horrible boating accidents on Lake Murray
I really need to start wearing a vest out there . I havent worn one once since I first got my stratos last fall. All it takes is one lil rock or stump at 60mph or even 30mph

who's throwing frogs ?
Good luck out there , its gonna be low tide by 7 or so. I fished mattawoman today, only caught 7 bass in 4 hours. My gf caught one but it was a lil over 3 pounds. I threw the frog a lil but not a single blowup. All my fish came on a spinnerbait today.

who's throwing frogs ?
I hope it was their vision and not my crappy skills cuz I missed 8 or 9 blowups on my buzzbait on saturday evening. I did get two in the boat tho. Nothing like your first buzzbait fish of the year . Also the fluke has been working for me too. No fish on a swm jig for me yet this year

Love fest at Beaverdam
Saturday in mattawoman creek we saw tons of them doing the same thing. Glad I didnt snag one of those nasty things. Didnt see any in chicamuxen tho, maybe thats why I was able to catch fish in chicamuxen but not in mattawman, or maybe it was the 3 boats in chic compared to 30 or 40 in mattawoman

installing a trolling motor
I used zip ties to fasten the transducer cable to the shaft and then put a lil electric tape over that so the zip ties wouldnt slip. Everything is done and works well. I'll hit the potomac tommorow and test it out . Gonna be nice to finally have a nice trolling motor esp now that alot of the grass has come in on the river. My only question now is, do I hook my battery charger up any different now that my batteries are parallel ? Or just keep it like it was before ? Before I had the black and yellow cables from each bank of the charger connected to the negative and positive on each battery.

installing a trolling motor
Laat night I picked up a new in box motorguide tr82 digital, cancelled my ebay purchase since this was a steal at 670 bux. Got the mount installed real nice which did take a while I admit, probably an hour and a half. But my boat is wired for 12/24 use which means there are 2 sets of black and red wires from the bow to the batteries. My new trolling motor only came wired with two wires so I have to run the batteries parallel but no biggie. So I'm off to the store now to get a 50 amp circuit breaker to run inline and some electric tape. I gotta say tho, motorguide has like 10 or 12 holes on the bracket for securing the motor in place, seems like overkill. My old motor only had 4 bolts. So we ended up drilling 6 new holes and using 6 bolts which I think will suffice or at least I hope. I just wish I didnt have to use tape to secure the wire for the transducer to the shaft, oh well. I guess there is no alternative.

1998 Alumacraft Lunker V16 Boat Worth it?
well let's see, I sold my 2005 Tracker V16 with a 2 stroke mercury 60hp for 5500 and it took me about a month to sell last August. Mine had a single console with all the gauges, fishfinder and a decent trolling motor. And when I bought it a few months earlier I only paid 4900. So just using that as a reference point I would say that boat isnt even close to being worth it. That is not a good family boat in general. For 4500 you can get something nicer. Try to avoid that tiller control stuff unless your budget is around 2 grand. Also avoid aluminum boats that dont have a welded hull. Just my 2 cents Use this site to help u find a boat. Its the best site imo http://www2.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.cgi

May 1st-2nd Virginia
They are bedding pretty much everywhere by now. I was at a local pond yesterday and spent over an hour tryin to catch one particular female on a bed. The male was right there too, I ended up catching him but no luck with the 4+ pound female. If I can get my new trolling motor on in time then Im gonna do some serious fishing this weekend. Just dunno how Im gonna decide where to go with so many great spots on the potomac.

Its like fishing the dead sea

installing a trolling motor
Thanks for the advice Eli. Its actually an old OMC trolling motor so new holes are a must. I just dont see how that could take more then maybe an hour or two max. BTW, I need to get out there with ya one day on the river. I'll send ya a pm.

installing a trolling motor
Im gonna replace my old trolling motor with a new one and am thinkin of doing it myself. What else is there really besides installing a mount? I know I need to drill new holes but is that all there is to it ? Local shop wants around 360 bux to install it for me. Sounds like alot to me. I installed one on my aluminum boat last year and it was easy since there was wood to mount it to.I know fiberglass is alot different then wood tho, so what should I do ?
