  1. Different brands may have models that excel in a given application. What are you looking for?
  2. The pq is so well proven and affordable I see no reason to mess with the lesser models.
  3. A ML/F or mod fast in 7' should cast those well. Keep in mind there are no industry standards for Rod specs so shop with an open mind.
  4. I here good things about the quickline but never tried one. AmTack Matrix are nice but I don't see a 10 footer
  5. Ya 10' is a little limiting. Rain shadow revelation has a 10' option I believe.
  6. Casting with the reel horizontal is more ergonomic and easier on your wrist and elbow but there's no mechanical difference either way. Whatever works for you is fine.
  7. The pq on sale is arguably one of the best bangs for the buck out there.
  8. Saltwater rods can often fill a freshwater need nicely, but in this case my guess is that the tip is too stiff to load and cast well. I've used saltwater blanks (surf casting) to build swimbait rods with very good results.
  9. You have to look at a reel or anything else for that matter in its entirety. Materials, tolerances, features, QC..... It all comes together to make a quality product.
  10. Sensitivity is a personal interpretation. Their blanks are reasonably priced and good quality. Well worth going out on the limb to see for yourself.
  11. Results will be limited unless you do the bearing supported level wind upgrade if it's available for your specific reel. It's the non disengagement of the level wind that limits spool inertia on those reels.
  12. No one can answer this but you. It depends on how you grip the rod, technique and the feel you prefer. Find a reel that feels good to you and check back for feedback prior to purchase.
  13. I have 10 of them here being cleaned and Super Tuned. They are smooth, great casting and built like a tank.
  14. Brand aside , something 7' with a lure weight range of 1/4-3/4 oz (medium or medium heavy action depending on brand ) fast action, intermediate to high modulus graphite (st croix scIII for example).
  15. The main difference between sub $100 and $100+ reels will be in longevity. Other features like weight, braking bearing count and quality are real but little more subtle.
  16. I can't say, it's worth keeping an eye on though.
  17. I've worked on several DC Calais that were bone dry and beginning to seize with a light tan costing on everything. I've talked with other techs that have seen the same thing. Shimano was of no help when I talked to them. Probably just didn't reach the right person but non the less it's a mystery still.
  18. Sorry for being off topic but how on earth do you detach a tricep? Get well
  19. It depends on your definition of "all around ". To me an all around Rod in a spinning configuration is different than a Rod for all around spinning apps. M/f for the former and ml/xf for the latter.
  20. When I saw the thread title I sighed out loud and almost skipped it. Good for a smile though.
  21. Compare schematics to be sure. The yoke, drag washers and AR sleeve should be the same but always confirm.
  22. There's nothing glaringly inferior in that reel as compared to others based on the same platform. The biggest bang for the buck upgrade would probably be a Carbontex drag upgrade $8 +/-
  23. That's a perfectly fish able reel. The best step is to replace the pawl and worm gear as a set. Sounds as if a deep cleaning may be beneficial as well. I'll take care of both if you'd like. If you send it provide your screen name for a 10% discount.
  24. Rod material, guides, grip configuration, and how you grip the Rod are all variables that affect Joe the setup feels in hand. Trial and error on your part is the only way to achieve the desired feel.
