I don't care how smart they are as long as they keep biting my baits. Heck they can go to bass SCHOOL and get a phd as long as they bite when I am fishing. LOL Ya'll did know they have schools right? LOL :D

Difference between Milfoil and Hydrilla
well when you go don't forget CAT's lesson on fishing the grass mats i.e. , a crawdad colored rattle trap pulled parralell to the mat, it will pull those fish out of the mat and when they ambush it they will hit it with a ton, won me our club tournament last week-end come to think of it I guess I ought to send him something for the lesson huh........ :-*

THANKS TO RAGETAIL AND CAT
Ok first let me set the scene for you. It has been raining and storming in North east Texas for the past week, barometer going from 28 to 31 up and down like crazy. The rain has dumped as much as 8 inches on the water shed of Caddo Lake, muddy was not the word for much of the lake where I had located fish 2 weeks ago. It is raining as we launch with thunder and lightning off to the south east. The wind is about 10 mph out of the north east. It is 6:30am still dark. Caddo lake is now a slot limit lake, which means you CAN NOT keep fish from 14 to 18 inches. NOW, in my little 15 foot kingfisher boat which is an old stick steer model I leave the ramp but quickly realize I can't run like this as I can't even see the channel markers, so I peel off at some boat houses on the river and start throwing a rage tail toad in the light of the boat houses, and on the first cast I have a 13" fish, so I am feeling pretty good even in the rain. I fished around and caught 3 more but they was all around 16-17 inches, so I left and went to the next area as it was now light. When I got to the cypress trees I threw the toad for about 15 min. but didn't get anything so I switched to a space monkey (bama craw) that I had dipped the legs in CC's chartruse dip and even in the stained water you could see those legs kick when I twitched the rod tip. In the next hour I had caught about 20 bass in this area only 2 that I could keep, and this with the club president fishing the trees ahead of me and watching me catch all of those bass, HE ASKES me what I am using and I told him exactly what I was using. NOW the important thing to remember is that the club has been making fun of me for buying these 5.99 baits when you only get 7-8 of them. But, back to the point, about 11:00am the bite just stopped and I still needed 2 more fish for the 5 bass limit, so I go back to the river and start fishing the hydrilla that is growing out about 1/3 of the way on both sides, I use the toad nothing, I throw the thumper and got 1 8" fish (the bait was 10" long, don't know what he thought he was going to do with it) My brother in law comes up and watch me catch another keeper 13.5 fish on space monkey. Well it is now 1:30 and I still need 1 more fish and I happened to think about CAT's article on fishing the grass mats with a rattle trap running it parallel with the grass mat so I tied on a crawdad rattle trap and in the next 45 min I culled fish 15 times ending up winning the tournament with 5 fish that weighed 7.79 pounds. I didn't get the big bass as we had 1 fish caught over the 18" limit that won it but I won the stringer and climbed to 3rd place in the club and cinched a place in the classic for angular of the year. SOOOOOOOOOO thank you RAGE TAIL AND CAT ! ! ! ! ! SALUTE Frank Williams

Crankin hookset...
If the crankbait you are using does not have split rings between the hooks and the bait, you should add them, I put split rings on all my cranks and top waters that don't have them so there is not as much pressure put on the hook by the fish when and if they do jump, this helps in keeping the fish from using the torque of the bait to back the hook out. Case in point I fish the zara spook a lot and the ones I use did not come with split rings and I was loosing a lot of fish, a pro saw my baits and showed me his and when I changed the hooks I have yet to loose another fish since.

Hello from Hawkins, Texas
well I still haven't got to weigh a bass in the kykx, I have won every other tournament on lake o the pine but haven't got to weigh one in it, there is always bigger bass than what I have in the live well, one of the days if I live long enough. albert you are sure right things have changed give me a call when you get settled in and we will get together and I will show you some places where I always catch bass.

Bob Sandlin Info
left you a reply in the intro section but just in case you didn't see it, a zara spook over the grass over by the power plant lake dam and on the upper end and also I forgot the yellow magic. The biggest on a spook went over 7. The last time I was up there I had several over 5lbs on a 4.5 inch grande worm watermellon/candy fished texas with 1/8th weight. Threw the lake fork swim bait and caught about 10 on it but largest was only like 4lbs. The day was just perfect though as the fish was hitting from 6:30 all the way until after dark and I staid on the lake all day, but I caught about 40 that day so I just lost track of time until it got dark, LOL.

Just a warning for ya'll.
I don't consider it ruining the hook, I have never had a hook right out of the package as sharp as I can make it with a moon stone, and since I have been doing that I have yet to miss a hook set, and on hard baits the second trebble hook will be hooked in them either in the mouth or their side, so I must be doing something right

Rage Tail Thumper CUT TAIL
time to make a trip to Shreveport and bass pro, thanks big o the elimanator is what I really want can't wait
-
Just a warning for ya'll.
thanks for the warning, but I sharpen every hook when I take it out of the package anyway, I flatten the top two sides making a knife edge on the top and to the point that it hangs my thumbnail when I pull it across it, if it slides and most all hooks out of the package do, it isn't sharp.

Strategeries for unstable weather
roger I betcha if you would get a pocket barometer at PBS and log the bass you catch and the pressure reading you would change you mind on the effects of pressure on the water and what it does to the bass.

Tournament Fishing vs. Trophy Fishing
When I am fishing in a tournament I focus on the limit first then start culling by going to where I have caught big fish before. I don't do the run and gun thing as I have a small (15ft 1982 kingfisher) boat and 40 hp motor, so I concentrate on an area that holds a lot of keeper fish and try to catch everyone of them. After I get my limit 3 or 5 whichever, then I move to the points and deep water and go to the big cranks and worms for the larger fish. When I am looking for trophy fish like right now I am focusing on only the areas that hold the bigger fish, and looking for the schoolers and try to get under them as I have caught a lot of 6-7-8lb'ers that way, but that still isn't the 10-14lb'er that I am trying to get on the hook, I know he is there or rather they are there as I have had them right to the boat and broke them off just haven't got him IN the boat yet. Help the new guy out. Lures getting stuck on stuff
When I am fishing the laydowns and junk on the bottom I cut off the front hook on the treble hooks so that it works like the old H&H lures, when I do this I still get hook-ups on the remaining two most of the time on the back hook. You might try that.

Strike King sexy swimmer....
I bought mine at bps and in Shreveport, La it was 19.00 but they may have dropped the price, wouldn't surprise me any, everytime I buy something the price goes down the next day or two. I still like them no matter what the price, even if it goes up if I lose one I will replace it.

Strike King sexy swimmer....
I have two of them, use them everyday. Early in the morning before day break throw them out and swim it right at the surface it will look like a snake swimming on top of the water, they will hit it like a spook so when the hit comes throw the rod tip at it and then set the hook, after the sun is up throw it out and start it back about 6-8 feet, pause then give it a jerk short pause another jerk and pause, most of the time they will hit it during the pause. If nothing hits repeat short swim and then a jerk or two. When you get a fish on expect to have to get both hooks out of him one in the mouth and the other out of his side or outside the jaw, and don't try to remove them with bare fingers, the fish will be hanging by your fingers, found out the hard way when the fish flounced then had to get hook out of me before I could get it out of the fish. Since buying these last month I have won 1 1st place and 1 second place in our club tournaments. I have caught 1 7.5lb, 2 over 6lbs, 1 5lber, and 6 over 4, not to mention a lot of dink fish, even have a picture of a little bass that hit it and wasn't as big as the bait, have fun it is worth the 19.00 if you make money on it, LOL

your "go to" plastics
my advice would be to check with local anglers as what works in me, NC, AL, fl, or TX; that color might not work in your area of Los banos, ca and you can spend a ton of money on colors that just don't work, I know from first hand experience, I have about 50 packages of worms that just don't work, then I have about 6 colors that work here every-time, go figure.

Where is the best LMB Fishing Destination in North America?
Go to Lake fork, if you want to get tired of having to throw back 6-7 lbs fishes. I took my step son over there last year in late aug and then again in sept and our arms were give plumb out and sore by noon and we had to throw all of them back. I weighed several of them and all that I weighed was over 7lbs, the biggest 7.43 and was in the slot, but we caught about 50 fish each time, between the two of us.
