  1. Google "Humminbird 998 997" and that will keep you busy for a while. Here's one link: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1264361313
  2. You'll want to find out what kind of bearing housing you have, Bearing Buddy, etc, and go from there. What year, what brand trailer?
  3. I've heard those are good batteries, and less than $100. The motor is a 2004 Johnson Bombardier 2 stroke 90 horse, which is on a 2004 Stratos 275 Pro XL. Most of my favorite lakes are too small to make runs of longer than a mile. A mile is even a stretch on some of them, unless I go around in circles. I tend to target small lakes with crap landings and no pressure.
  4. Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know how bass would respond to fresh, minced up garlic that is marinated in Vaseline compared to other scents on the market.
  5. It won't effect me too much. The lakes I fish are mostly 25-30 miles from home. I generally go about 4-5 days a week in the summer, sometimes 6 if the fishing is hot. I'll probably go 3-4 times a week if gas prices rise above $4, and just spent more time on the lake per trip, especially on the weekends. Last year I was averaging about $75-90 a week on gas between my boat and tow vehicle, and that was at $2.70 a gallon, which might look like a bargain if the **** really hits the fan in the Middle East this summer, or 5 years from now, or 10...
  6. Does the trailer have Bearing Buddies? If so, all you have to do is use a grease gun and pack them with a shot or two of grease a couple times per season. Everything is good unless the bearing is making noise or is hot to the touch after towing. http://www.bearingbuddy.com/
  7. The second one looks nice. Good work.
  8. How well do these work when used for a short period of time? For example, while going WOT for a half mile or a mile. Will that throw a significant charge into my battery? I had my graphs drain my starting battery a few times last season if I would leave them on for longer than 8 hours or so. I'd have to jump it from my trolling motor batteries sometimes just to get the motor started. I was thinking about adding an alternator charger or replacing the battery, or both. What do you think? Is it normal for two graphs to drain a starting battery like that? The battery is an Everstart 24MS-6 that came with the boat, which I've had since 2009. Thanks, Joe http://store.minnkotamotors.com/category/392877/on-board_dc_alternator_char
  9. Why would he design a bait then change the trebles out of the box? If the design was wrong then why wouldn't he make that change? I'll bet it's a contractual issue. Perhaps Clunn likes Owner, but Lucky Craft has a contract in place to use Daiichi-sharpened VMC hooks.
  10. I often change the front hook to a bigger size. Sometimes I use a red one on the front.
  11. They're a dud as a bass lure as far as I'm concerned, but they make excellent pike baits and can be used with a steel leader without affecting the action much.
  12. Hmmm. I've ordered from you several times but have never seen an email from Northstar. They go to your junkmail/spam box, which is why I've never seen one either. I didn't even realize I was getting them or that they included specials, until I searched my spam box after reading RiverRat's earlier post.
  13. Are there any Academy stores in KC? I will down there in June for some Royals games and I'd like to pick up a couple handfuls of CRS cranks.
  14. It's 8 degrees here at the moment. I could use a fishing vacation. Look on the bright side Silvercliff, the stretch from May thru October is fantastic in the Northland without all of the stifling heat and humidity. I used to hate MN weather growing up, but after spending some time down south in the summer, I learned to appreciate the northern summer more. There really isn't any place with "perfect" weather all year round. Wherever you live, there are times during the year when it's best to just stay inside.

I hit it twice. The alarm goes off at 5:16, and two hits of the snooze means I'm out of bed at 5:30.
  16. I sure hope so. At least he's not grabbing his you-know-what.
  17. First off, there are three 705CB cranking sticks. - 705CB Glass (fast) - 705CBMF Glass (mod-fast) - 705CB (mod-fast graphite) I just went through the process of finding a new cranking stick this season. It was not an easy decision because I hadn't handled any Dobyns cranking stick before. Good thing is, there's a lot of writing out there on the subject so Google came in handy, and so did my PMs with David P. I went with the 705CB graphite(mod-fast action) during the recent BTD sale. I haven't fished with it yet but I know I'm going to love it. I was looking for a cranking stick for heavier baits(1/2-3/4oz) like medium to large squarebills, wakebaits, lipless cranks, and jerkbaits. My decision came down to the 705CB glass (fast action) and the 705CB graphite (mod fast action). I ended up choosing the graphite because the main cover in my local waters is weeds, and I want all the sensitivity I can get so I can feel the weedtops and tear the lure free before it fouls, which is a problem I've had with all previous glass cranking sticks I've owned. I did notice that the 705CB fast action glass appears to be one of the most popular rods in the Dobyns line based on how people on the net rave about it. If I were fishing around mainly wood and rock, I probably would have chosen this rod instead.
  18. It's the cover's thickness for me too. A weightless T-rig is more weedless than any weedless wacky hook I've tried. I also choose wacky over T-rig when skipping Senkos under docks. A wacky Senko skips more easily than a T-rigged Senko and the bait doesn't take as much of a beating so they tend to last longer without tearing. The weeds in the shade under a dock are usually very sparse anyway.
  19. X2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really though, this is an excellent idea. "Like" buttons always seem to cut down on the clutter from people who are intent on racking up their post counts.
  20. I've been in that position before when I was learning to disassemble and deep clean my reels. It's because the reel was assembled incorrectly after cleaning. It's probably something simple that's not allowing the parts to fit. That's why I take usually take a few pictures of the disassembly process.
  21. I think so. The 734 is like a cross between a mod fast and a fast action, IMO. I hear that the 733 is the same deal, but I have not fished with one. I read a quote from Gary Dobyns online where he explains that the 733 and 734 were built with a slightly softer action because they were built to be the more well rounded, multi purpose rods in the Champion line. I personally really like the 734 and 735 and I would recommend them to anybody looking for versatility.
  22. Excellent.
  23. I've never had the legs of any of my frogs get sticky or melt. Some of the Spros were bought when they were first introduced, maybe 4 years ago. I keep them together in a Plano box and sometimes scent them with Megastrike. Keep them cool and dry and you should be fine. A lot of lures will fall apart if you mistreat them, not just frogs.
  24. Those look excellent, and the price is good too.
  25. The St. Croix Triumph line offers a excellent rod for the price. I would recommend that you search the various online flea markets for used St. Croix Premier rods. They are often priced in the $50-60 shipped range.
