  2. Duke & UNC (UNC especially) would never leave the ACC because John Swofford wouldn't let them. He is making sure the ACC is a basketball conference. I wish Clemson, FSU, VT...etc would get out of the ACC with Swofford being so biased for UNC basketball and basketball in general, but for the reasons you mentioned, they would more than likely never get to the SEC because they would bring no new market. I will say the Louisville move wasn't as bad as the Pitt/Syracuse move for the ACC. West Virignia should have gotten an ACC invite, but apparently academics held that back or something. The SEC made a brilliant move getting A&M and Missou. I could see TCU/Baylor being possibilities in the future. By the way, I think you spelled Clemson wrong
  3. pocket change! ha! Thanks for the suggestions, definitely gave me some options to consider.
  4. Thank you! That definitely helps point me in the right direction.
  5. Reason I ask about pellet gun is because it's not for the woods, it's for the yard, in an urban area, so I can't shoot a .22 in the area. Extremely overrun, they've gotten into our attic before, we trap all the time and relocate, but they just keep reappearing. My dad loves to shoot them in the backyard, but he's got a wimpy walmart pellet gun that just makes them laugh when it hits them IF it reaches that far, so I'd like to get him something better.
  6. What do you guys use for squirrel hunting? I'm looking for a good pellet gun within a reasonable price.
  7. I know I'm biased as I'm a Clemson student....but Clemson vs LSU should be a really good game. Honestly, I have no interest in watching ND & Alabama....Hate both of them. K-State & Oregon is no doubt going to be a good game. Outside of the Clemson-LSU game, that's the one I want to watch, along with OU-A&M.
  8. Glock 23 with me always unless I'm on school grounds. I have a permit and I'm going to exercise my right to carry.
  9. Hey folks, Just bought my first boat a couple months ago and I am looking to upgrade the fish finder for it eventually. The boat is a 16' Procraft bass boat and it currently has a Humminbird 323 Fishfinder with a Humminbird Piranha1 on the bow. Obviously, those are a bit out of date. They work, so I'm not in too much of a hurry to upgrade, but I'd like to start looking to see what's best that's out there. Mainly I'm looking to upgrade the 323. I don't really know what to look for as far as side imaging, down imaging...etc. and lowrance or humminbird. My budget at this point is probably no more than $500, which I know will limit me a bit, but I can't justify the need for a $1,000+ unit at this point, as I'm just a casual weekend bass fisherman. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I've got my eye on the Lowrance Elite 5 DSI w/ GPS, but again, I don't know much about anything out there. Thanks for the help! Steve
  10. Well after some trial and error with wires and the shaft and everything, I'm thinking the lower motor unit that powers the prop is burnt out. Can this be replaced on my model or would it be better to just go for a new trolling motor all together?
  11. It does and when I looked at it, it was in good condition.
  12. I'll have to check on the prop shaft. I don't get any hums or clicks or anything when throttling. Only the gauge on the motor shows that it throttles up. No sounds. It will also turn left and right fine. Hopefully it is an inexpensive fix like that.
  13. Hey, I've got a Bass Pro Prowler 45 lb foot controlled trolling motor. Everything turns on and when I press the throttle, the gauge shows it throttling up. Problem is, the prop will not spin. Any ideas what the issue could be? I've checked the shear pin and it's fine. Thanks, Steve
  14. Decent weekend this weekend. I fished that point like crazy and ended up landing 6 bass with a weightless senko. It seemed to be a big hit. Nothing big, biggest one was 13" at 1 lb 3 oz. I tried a topwater frog at night, and I'm surprised I didn't get more hits on it than I did (only about 2 hits), because when it gets dark, the frogs are everywhere, I figured they are a good meal for the bass. Couple pics of some of the bass, sorry for quality, cell phone pic and I had to hold em myself. Sort of gives you a general idea of the size bass I'm workin with. Thanks for the tips again guys, I'm tryin to work with every tip and see what happens.
  15. Seemed to be a slow weekend this past weekend for me. I tried a little bit of everything, mainly sticking to a t-rigged worm in the morning/afternoon and topwater (buzzbait and frog) at night. Had a few strikes on the frog but never got em hooked. Landed 2, 1/2 lb, bass with the worm right off the point. I've got one more chance this weekend before my fishing days start to wind down for the fall/winter months while football season and classes start back. Hopefully I'll have some more luck this weekend. I think I'll dig deep into my tacklebox and see what I can scrounge up and work with the tips yall gave me more this weekend and see what I can do.
  16. Thanks for the welcome guys
  17. I have a similar problem. I've found that it must be overpopulation of other fish and stunted growth on the largemouth. I'm pretty much keeping everything I catch now, trying to clear it out a little bit and see if it helps in a couple years. I really had no other solutions as to why I could only catch 1 lbers in the past 10 years. I'd have myself a nice supper with what you catch if I were you.
  18. too much Clemson hate! Go tigers!
  19. I've tried crickets and Catalpa/Catawba (however its spelled) worms live, with the crickets catching a majority of bream. I haven't seen the catalpa worms on the trees in several years, and most of the time they'll catch bream, but they've caught more bass than crickets have. I'd use them if they were on the trees, but like I said, I haven't seen them in several years. Other than that, I've never tried live bait. Always been more of a fan of artificial bait and crickets. The bass I have caught out of there in the past 7 or 8 years, have been 1 pounders or less. They seem to be somewhat long and skinny, which I think I read is a sign of not getting enough food or something? Which surprises me, because of the number of bream in there spawning and bugs I can find all over, it seems they would have plenty to eat. Because of the lack of rain here, the water level is fairly low now too, so maybe they can't get to as much as they used to. I know there are plenty of bass in there, it's the size that has been concerning me lately. This past weekend, there were schools of baby bass swimming in the shallows, so I know theres some mature ones in there and I know theres some young ones in there. Seems only the "teens" want to bite, haha.
  20. Thanks for the tips guys. I've been fishing this pond for just under 20 years now, but I guess I've never really been as interested in my technique or lures as I am nowadays. I've usually just sort of thrown things out there, and only pull in one or two bass per weekend if I'm lucky, so I guess I'm trying to up that a little bit now. mrlitetackle, pretty much what you see in the picture is the entire pond. During the fall/winter when I can actually walk the banks, I'd guess it would take me ~10 minutes to walk around. I'll have to find out the exact size this weekend for future reference. Thanks again folks, I'll see what I can pull out this weekend.
  21. What's the best way to go about bass fishin in a small farm pond with little cover for the bass? The pond I fish, I'm not sure an exact size, but its bottom is as flat as it could be, with a slow slope down to about 12 feet, majority of the pond being about 3-6 feet deep. There are a few tree limbs that have fallen in around the sides, part of an old bridge sticking out of a small area, and a point with a rocky ledge going straight down. I can fish that rocky ledge off the point all day and catch only one bass. There are no weed beds, no lily pads, nothing like that. Its a pretty much open water pond, except for around some of the edges. I'm considering building some of those 'porcupine fish attractor' things, homemade of course, and throwing a few of those in, but until then, theres not many places for the fish to hide and take cover. So I'm just curious how would yall go about fishing a place like that? Attached a pic of part of the pond, not a great picture, doesn't show all of the pond, but you can see the point I was referring to right there on the left.
  22. Haha, I'm not conflicted at all. I'm a straight up diehard Clemson fan. I grew up in Columbia a Clemson fan and it was tough in school with practically everyone else a Carolina fan, but my Dad graduated from Clemson and that's how I grew up. LOL the orange definitely is a disease, but its a good one. Once you wear Clemson orange, you will fall in love with it ;D
  23. Thanks for the welcome. I'm from Columbia, do my fishin in Lexington, but live in Clemson.
  24. Hey folks, I'm Stephen from South Carolina. Born and raised a fisherman. My family has a farm pond that I fish, unfortunately that's all I've been limited to fishing except for two or three times on a couple lakes with little success. Our pond is stocked with largemouth, bream, warmouth, grass carp, and too many snapping turtles. Its a bit overstocked I think, I have a feeling the bass are stunted, because in the past 7 or 8 years, I've pulled nothing but 1 pounders or less out of there. Biggest bass caught in the pond was about 20 or 30 years ago by my dad, it was a 10 pounder. My personal best is a 6 pounder about 8 years ago. The bream are plentiful in the pond though, just the other weekend I pulled 15 out in just a couple hours. Still looking for that big bass to hang on my wall though Anyway, just figured I'd introduce myself, I've lurked here on the forums reading a lot for awhile now, just thought it was about time I posted something. Looking forward to enhancing my fishing skills with yall's advice. -Stephen
