  1. Yup, through the gills, but not the red fleshy part of the gills. You'll hurt the fish if you do.
  2. I'm surprised the pelican didn't put up a bigger fight. Thanks for sharing the vdeo.
  3. How'd you find that video? There's like 8 views! Let me guess -- it's yours? haha
  4. Only thing I smell when I'm done fishing is "fish" on my hands, which is a good thing.
  5. haha ... I didn't get my biggest of the year after the seagull incident, but I did land more bass than my buddy.
  6. Terns? So that's what they're called. They're always out there. Haven't had one go after a lure of mine before, but seagulls are pests.
  7. Oh ... shore fishing?! Sorry, I misread... Bradenburg Park (23 Mile & Jefferson) is a good spot to fish from. There's a pier that extends a ways out into the lake. Pikes, smallmouth, largemouth, rockbass, panfish can be caught from the pier. Sometimes muskies and bowfin fishes will come through the area too. Carps are big in the area if you're into it. Harley Ensign Memorial is a good spot too. Fish the south side of the park with a frog for largemouth. I was there yesterday and I landed 3 keepers, lost 2, and missed 3. My cousin missed 8-10 and managed to hook only 1. (Sad for him). You can also try Metro Beach and Stoney Creek.
  8. This is from what I've read and heard ... I don't have a boat, so I can't give a first hand account: I hear Fair Haven is good. Selfridge is a hot spot. St. John's Marsh is a good place too. There's plenty of places on Lk St. Clair.
  9. One piece rods are great, but a pain to transport if you drive a coupe like me. Two piece rods are easier to transport, but then you have to deal with the top part sometimes rotating after a series of casts. I am considering a two piece just for days I don't wanna deal with the hassle of getting my one piece in my vehicle.
  10. x2 Make sure you're using heavy line or braid.
  11. Hey guys, I'm from Southeast MI. Just started bass fishing in 2009. Comparing my rookie campaign to this season's, I'm doing far better. Bigger fish, less skunks -- mostly because I'm targeting the best time of the days to go out and making use of the weather conditions.
  12. The lady that set the bird free, she kept harassing me about why I cut the line loose to let the seagull die. She said the bird was drowning, which at the exact moment, the bird was perfectly fine sitting on top of the water. It's all funny until a spectator takes offense and makes a scene out of it. I'm there fishing, I'm not there birding!
  13. I had no idea this seagull picked up my line or tangled until my lines started moving with it. I guess next time, I'll do my best to free the bird even though I hate touching birds. Thanks for the posts...
  14. You guys ever get birds (seagulls especially) get too close to your top water lures? Had a seagull get caught up in my line tonight while I was fishing a Spro Bronzeye Jr. ... I eventually cut my line. When the seagull drifted by the shore, some lady untangled the line and gave back my Spro. Have you ever had that happen? What'd you do?
  15. Never seen those before. I have caught bass on purple senkos late at night though but purple seems to be a great color for plastics at night? Do you know what the purpose of pink plastics are anyway? Someone else told me they are better lures for mid day. I have friends who caught bass on pink senkos when other colors and lures wasn't working.
  16. you've probably heard this a millions times -- but it's definitely a largemouth
  17. Yeah, I realize it's tough not knowing the lake. I'd agree they're deeper. But there's gotta be a reason for only catching dinks in this weather.
  18. I've been fishing off a pier locally on Lk. St. Clair. Weather's been in the low 90s since the weekend. I've been fishing in the evenings when the temp drops to 88. Been throwing out t-rigged plastics (baby brush hogs, sweet beavers, & senkos) with some success, but all I'm catching are dinky largemouth bass from 12" - 14". Where are the big guys? Are the smaller bass more active in hot weather?
  19. what about in hydrilla? would you throw shakey head into that mess?
  20. i get those subtle taps on my t-rigged plastics too. usually they're smaller bass, bluegills, or rock bass. what i do is down-size my hook and bait, then let that little wretched have it! haha if the line pulls, set the hook.
  21. i've had some bad outting on heavy rain fall, but if it's light rain and no lightening ... GO FOR IT
  22. Night fishing with some friends. Went down quite a ways, got in the water, then crept up to where one of my friend was fishing. Waited a while hiding in the reeds partially submerged in water, then popped up. OH, it was good.
