Could this have been a defensive move?
;D ;D ;D ;D Oh, you were serious????? Wouldn't it have been easier just to catch her than to try to "foul hook" her INSIDE the mouth?? Was he waiting for her to yawn or something?? Please tell me you were kidding, please.... Why would he do that if he was already the one on the fish? Doesn't make sense.

channels, ditches and drains
Sounds like it marked a man made drain... we have lots of those in Tx, and many are laid in the creek or riverbed. It never made sense to me until I got into real estate. The state (in Tx anyway) owns the waterways, if they are "navigable" or flow and this eliminates the need for easements from individual property owners. Figure it's probably a concrete drain (hole) and some large pipe.

Pains
You might need a new pair of shoes. Seriously. Also, if you are like me a day of flippin or pitching involves very little standing straight with good posture. Add to that, your body rocking to account for boat movement and you will probably be sore after a full day, unless you are used to it. We're all up for a good story... sounds like this one could rival the dirty diaper story! ;D

St. Croix SCV need thread color help
I'm just about to that point! I had my first BIG rodbuilding surprise last night. I finally settled on Med. Brown with Scarlet trim... yes I know it sounds nuts but it looked awesome when wetted, it turned into dark brown and garnet which looked realy good on that blank. Well for the first time so far, the Threadmaster and water did not agree on final color. The med brown went almost crystal clear... I can even see the tiny glittler in the blank through it. I guess this could have been a bad experience... it turned out ok because it still looks good but is very subtle. The lesson for me here is when trying a new color on an expensive blank, wrap a few colors and then go ahead and put some finish on them to see final colors! (or just stick to matte black and gray blanks!)

Enough is enough!!!
I actually tuned out of a few other threads just because I got tired of the needless bashing. My skin is as thick as anyones. What I don't like (as you and I have discussed on several different threads lately) is people bashing others, and making ridiculous assumptions. Seems in the end they actually did it right, considering the hook placement. A few quick phots and weighing and release. (they actually should have released it immediately, but God I could imagine your reaction then) Since it was obtained illegally per Ca. regs, they didn't have much of a choice. I'd also be willing to bet that if you caught a potential WR fish that you'd be a little shakey as well. You know, nothing changes if they took measurements and used the certified scale, except you guys couldn't whine about it... he still had to release it and it still wouldn't have counted.

spawning weight
Avid, I think he's asking how much weight will eggs add to a female, before she spawns. (as compared to like the summertime weight. I'm sure it varies from fish to fish, but I'd suggest it's in the neighborhood of 20%. A 5lb fish could go 6lbs and a 10lb fish could then be 12lbs. Like I said it will likely vary from fish to fish but I'd bet that 20% is within 5% either way, on average.

Enough is enough!!!
No, talk about the fish all you want. I believe Ablefisher, much like me and others, is just flat worn out by all the (trash) talk about the guy and the lack of talk about the fish. As a matter of fact, this is the place that invites all newbies to come and learn more. So whether it's john boats and fishing lines or lure and techniques, we should be trying to help out where we can. Although it seems you have forgotten, most people had a learning curve. I disagree. I for one would not have joined, if this Jr. High type of gossip and crap was the norm here. THIS forum was pretty healthy last week, last month and last year. Membership has been growing rapidly over the past year or more, without this kind of "juicy meat."

St. Croix SCV need thread color help
The Ti guide frames are about the same look as stainless (not chrome) and I got a stainless hood. The match almost perfectly. I picked up a spool of the Pewter metallic thread... it almost has a brown tint to it and doesn't look at all like pewter... maybe I can use it with one of the browns or grays or garnet. I just have to wrap a few more combinations and pick something. This is the only part of rodbuilding I don't enjoy, because I am horrible with colors. ...lol

St. Croix SCV need thread color help
That what I was thinking... I have several browns in both regular nylon and NCP. The browns and garnet look pretty good but can't find a trim color I like. Gold metallic would be good but the guides are Ti and it looks funny that way.

Weakley speaks out on 25 lber...
The fist few threads had links to the story... said 15' deep approx 15 yards from the bank. What part of that constitutes stealing? Seems just as easy for the "poor, mistreated" kid to buy a camping permit. Welcome to public water, that happens at all the state parks that close each night, even here in Tx. Then you weren't reading anything on this forum... he's been trashed since an hour after the story broke. First of all, define small in the presence of a 25lb bass. Either way, his view (of his bait)could have easily been obscured by either one of the fish. If you honestly believe that there is now way to miss, while sight fishing in 15' of water then you are a forum troll, pro's miss while sight fishing in 3-4 feet all the time. Are you always so cynical?

Weakley speaks out on 25 lber...
Spoken like someone without much sight fishing experience. Hate to break it to you Fl, fish bump and sweep stuff off beds all the time... with the mouth closed. And at 15 feet, I don't care how clear the water is, visibility isn't great. This also could be as simple as the fish's tail hit the line and it felt like a strike. Either way, many of you guys seem pretty eager to trash someone... and I just don't see why. No one here has been through life without foul hooking or gut hooking or just flat missing fish. It happens to everyone, just this time it was with a giant. That's bad luck, and no reason to kick a guy who just landed a 25 lb. bass. Anyone remember this quote: "let he who is without sin cast the first stone"

St. Croix SCV need thread color help
Ok, I have an SCV ready to wrap but I tried litterally 20 color combos last night and couldn't find a combo I really liked. 2 questions: What color thread comes on the Legend Elites? Have any of you built a SCV blank in the brownish pearl glittery finish, and what colors have looked nice on it. (I didn't know the color before I bought it) Thanks for any ideas! Keith

Rod Dryer?
But as I type this, I have an All Star Pitch/Jig 1 turning on the 3rpm "cheapo" dryer. ...lol But only because I am about to put the Threadmaster on the Pitch/Jig 2 and set it on the 6rpm "premium" dryer. ...lol What an addiction!! ;D
-
Rod Dryer?
I'm right there with you, I paid $59 for my 6rpm (flexcoat) as well.
-
Rod Dryer?
My 3 rpm motor was a Lowe's close out BBQ rot. motor. Motor, stand and clamps for $19. Why not save some $$$ when you can.

Help on getting noticed!
Best thing you can do is win a few tourneys first... the rest will happen in time but probably not until you win a few first.

22lbs 7oz reported from Dixon Ca
Maybe I misunderstood things... I thought all the talk of "legal" meant for record purposes, if I'm wrong and it is against the law to keep the fish- well Duh, he had to let her go. Either way I don't care, I just think it's great that she was released. I am confused about one thing though, if it is truly illegal, how could it even be considered for the record? And if it's illegal, how can all these people be upset for the release? Makes no sense to me. Where did you read that he had a treble attached to the jig? I haven't seen that. I have foul hooked a bass on a jig so that part makes sense... especially since he was sight fishing in 15' of water. Even clear water at that depth could be tough to see things clearly. I haven't ever added a treble to a jig though.
-
Age of Dixon Bass
I also read that and had no idea that Bass lived that long. (if not kept) ...lol I wish there was a way to age them on the water, it would be neat to be able to age the larger ones we catch.

22lbs 7oz reported from Dixon Ca
I did get worked up, you are right on. I can't stand a dog pile for no reason. I don't care if someone is into C & R or not, what kills me is the hypocrites. The ones who scream C&R always are the same ons saying he shouldn't have let it go. And yes, fish need to be kept sometimes, but why not keep smaller ones... you know the giants have good genes. I feel like a broken record but here goes one more time, in bold print... If he thought it wouldn't be qualified since it was hooked outside the mouth, letting it go is the right thing to do... because it will either get caught "properly" and be the next record or it will not get caught and likely spawn, adding more great genetics to that lake. It's a win-win scenario. It would be like me asking if you released that 1 pounder in your avatar? He had plenty of witnesses to the weighing, do you think they are all full of it? He may not agree it's for public display, (and since he caught it, it's his choice to keep, release, etc.)... especially if he didn't get credit for a record. Maybe he thinks he can catch it again, for the record. And if he does, I hope it gets released again, just to tick everyone off. ;D ;D I'm not trying to single any one person out here, so if I offend any one person, I'm sorry. I just hate it that so many peole jump to a conclusion based on heresay and speculation.

Dixon info and my $.02
It will be nice to see an article or interview that gets the info from him, not someone who saw it from shore or another boat. I know it SEEMS like the details don't add up but I think all the info we have at this point is from "witnesses" and that is not always reliable. I just hate to see the guy torched for no good reason. If it turns out bad, you'll have the rest of your life to torch him... but to light him up based on the conflicting reports we have right now is just plain wrong.

22lbs 7oz reported from Dixon Ca
Anyone know what the record is at Dixon? Maybe the video equip was in the car? Not sure.... although I don't normally carry a camera on the boat so I'd have to go back to the ramp for pics. The story said they video taped the weighing... I can only guess as to the reasons.

There were witnesses to the catch. This kind of news spreads like wildfire.
