Favorite flippin stick between $180-$250
Honestly, I'd have ReelMech price out one of the following blanks and see if he can build it for close to that price. St. Croix 4C79HF (swim bait blank) or 4C711HMF (big gulp blank) or the new model 3C76MHMF If a St. Croix MH is enough rod for your taste. The Big Gulp is only a 3.1 oz blank which is very light for such a long, heavy rod! If he can't do it in your $ range - There is an awful lot of factory rod possibilities within a $250 budget. You really ought to go to a big retailer and start narrowing the list down.

Gotcha, thanks.

Texas Rig : With or Without bead ?
Funny, in over 20 years of t-rigging, I never heard that. I never use a bead... I have tried it but never thought it helped. (but I won't fish a c-rig w/o one ...lol)

Carrot Stix Grip
No one said that voiding the warranty was an issue or even wrong if a mod was done... (but since you brought it up, ask Alpster about Loomis warranties and rod mods- they did cover it ) I just didn't like the part with the arrogance and slandering the good suppliers of components and materials in this industry. He could have solved the problem or at least made his customer feel better with an honest response... or a $2 piece of foam. :-/ I would just expect more from someone getting into the fishing world... He really could have made a huge impression on the customer with a decent response- it was a missed opportunity, at the least.

epoxy packets
Be careful in using general purpose epoxies... devcon 5 minute is only water resistant but the 30 minute is waterproof... there is a big difference and most people don't notice that.

Rod build # 1
Looks good from here... smooth and level, just what you want!

Carrot Stix Grip
No offense to ken whiting but what a crappy and inaccurate response. There are several reputable sources for hypalon... and if he was interested in customer service, he would have sent (or offered to sell) you a 4" piece of "thermalon" with his warranty disclaimer. Find a reputable builder in your area and see about a grip mod. Who needs a warranty when the rod isn't what you want? If you modify it you may love it and feel the risk is worth the trouble. Or sell the rod and use the $ towards a custom with a grip you like.

The BaitMonkey at it ........ again !
Don't you love surprises!?!?!? ;D

WEAR A PFD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, my understanding is that there is a pressure activated "switch" that only releases when submerged in water... it just getting wet triggered them, there would be misfires on most rough or rainy days. Even if you could cause it to fire with the bucket, I don't think it would be as funny as the cost of the recharge kit you'd be buying....

regestration decal removal
it works better than most and is much safer than most chemicals...

Ice out
Sure we do... Ice out means the beer is getting warm and we need another bag in the cooler. ;D

another noob - pics and pond question
I think we as "sportsman" or "conservationists" do more to harm the bass fisheries than we help. In many areas, catch and release is way overdone- and more misunderstood than rod action and power! ;D Somewhere it was decided that bass were some superior fish that was so fragile we can't keep a few w/o endangering them. Harvest regulations are put on a body of water to ENCOURAGE people to keep fish in those ranges... to help balance out the populations, sizes, species mix and overall health of the local ecosystem. I think the Man upstairs would say that a carp is as important as a bass or any other fish. And as far as ponds go, the best ones I have ever fished for BOTH size and numbers, were the ones that had a regular harvest. :-? Funy how that works out... I say if you like bass, keep some that fall within the regs and don't let anyone make you feel bad for it. By following the biologists recommendations, YOU are actually the conservationist who is contributing to the solution. final thought before stepping off the soapbox... I don't think it's a coincidence that regular fish kills and LMB Virus have been on the rise ever since C & R has taken off to the extreme. (Yes there were kills prior but it seems like we see them much more frequently now)

Advice on which Loomis IMX rod
Yes and no. In theory it should only be a difference in length but they actually fish & feel a little different, IMO. The 844 has a more delicate tip and a little different working feel. You'll definitely want to hold both side by side before you make a decision, have someone hold the tips and pull back on them- you'll see what I mean about the different feel. Both are great rods, no doubt, but just different enough that you should feel both before dropping the $$.

What to do with your GI Joe action figures....
indeed! ;D Just as good!! ;D

Advice on which Loomis IMX rod
Since you want 6'6" I'd have to suggest the MBR784. I have owned several of them. It was my dedicated t-rig rod for many years. Suitable for all but the real heavy jigs as well, by most opinions.

Made in America
GM has assembly plants all over the place..... and I think the vast majority of its vehicles sold in the US are assembled in the US. either is better than a foreign owned and assembled product. A domestic company with domestic manufacturing is best, IMO.

Baitcasting from Shore?
Smart-ellic! ;D ;D 8-) If you knew the guys I fished with, you'd see that I wasn't trying to be funny!

tournament pairing
Sounds like you guys need some more members... most clubs would love to have "too many" boaters! You could fix that with a mention or two at local tackle shops.

Baitcasting from Shore?
Those who aren't aware of their surroundings and have trouble with trees, slopes, plants, etc,..... are most likely ALSO going to have trouble with boat seats, windshields, steering wheels, outboards, fishing partners, etc. The problem isn't usually the surroundings....

Made in America
I prefer to buy American made, but like KU, I won't buy something inferior just because of that... On the flip side, I will pay more for American made if I feel the quality is as good or better. And I will go out of my way to look for American made alternatives on bigger purchases. Admittedly, I rarely look for that info on small purchases.

A farewell to one of the greats...
Not only one of the greatest players- but one of the finest men to play the game. Best of luck to him in all future endeavors!

Cajun1977 ???
Why not have the boss change it so you can't delete a profile... then the joke is on the one trying to make "statements". And the ones who would have regretted it can still return, once they cool off.

OK guys eat your hearts out
Mike, I'll understand and forgive you for setting expectations too high! That's pressure you don't want or need. Just remember this... no matter how good a lake is, there are always WAY more people without a 10 pounder than with a 10 pounder on said lake. I hope you get your 10... and I hope it comes on day one- so you can relax and enjoy the rest of your trips. But if it doesn't, I hope you still have safe travels and loads of fun!

Trouble with Abu Garcia Revo Premier reel
1/2 oz is a lot of weight. Casting has a lot of variables.... but a 1/2 oz. buzzbait can be casted pretty far. I use an old 4600 on my buzzbait rod but it will cast a 1/2 lunker lure buzzbait 40 yds with 15# mono. (not that it's needed very often but it does it.) To the original poster- the reel should be sent for service or returned, something is definitely wrong.
