  1. The lakes(Tri City Park, Placentia, CA and Yorba Regional Park, Yorba Linda, CA) that I go to are not huge in any way and they recieve a lot of fishing pressure. People fish for cats and trout mainly, cuz thats what is stocked, as for forage, the bass bust shad and trout, I know that there are bluegill and crawfish as well. I have used almost everything and its tough to get bit. How do you all fish these types of high pressure city lakes?
  2. Has anyone used these lures and how well do they work? Also, are these lures slow or fast sink or suspending? Any and all information on these lures would be appreciated. Thanks!
  3. thanks for all the great answers! I will definately be picking up some of these. I have settled on the watermelon red flake for now. I know this post is about the Smokin Rooster, but how does the eeliminator fare against the rooster? I have some in blue glimmer black flake and have not gotten bit on it yet, not even a follow. What colors do you all use for the eeliminators?
  4. Im looking into picking up some of these. Which colors have been the most effective for everyone? The colors interested in are watermelon red flake, green pumpkin, and bama bug. Lastly what are these supposed to mimic? Thanks in advance for the help!
  5. I have tried using these hooks that look like this: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90001_100010000_100000000_100010000_100-10-0 For some reason, no matter what I rig on them, they want to roll over so the hook bend faces up. Does anyone else have this problem with these types hooks? And how do you rig them so that they run straight and true? Thanks!
  6. I use worm binders like these from bass pro: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_37107_100011010_100000000_100011000_100-11-10 I put in about 5-10 worms per bag in the binder. It works rather well for me. I use two, one for 3-5in worms, the other for larger 6"+. Just toss em into a backpack with a plano type tackle box and your set. You have everything you could possibly need for that trip, without taking the whole pack.
  7. Thanks for all the helpful and informative info guys! The lure im really interested in is 2/3oz. I did some math and found out that 2/3=.667 and 5/8=.625, I really dont think 0.042oz. will affect the rod too negatively, what do you guys think? Or just say screw it and look for a cheap rod that can handle heavier weights?
  8. not really... for me its pretty straightforward. I tie an ARBOR KNOT around the spool pull it tight and start winding on line. Just make sure that you have line going onto your reel the same direction it comes off the spool of line. I also take a towel and grasp the line tight as im winding the line on. Fill to about an 1/8in. from the lip of the spool on your reel. Hope this helped!
  9. For example, Im interested in a couple lures that are 2/3oz-1 1/2oz. and my rod is rated 1/4oz.-5/8oz. How detrimental would it be to the integrity of the rod? Thanks in advance for your answers!
  10. Whats the best mono, copoly, fluoro lines that you have used? -Sensitivity -Strength/Abrasion resistance to diameter -Value -Lowest or no memory I use only Yo Zuri in 8lb for spinning and 10lb for casting. Which types of line to you guys use and why?
  11. Looking into a new spinning rod for drop shot mainly, and general purpose. I have narrowed it down to these three. Which would you guys recommend/suggest? 6'6" M/MF 6'9" ML/XF 7' M/F
  12. Im looking into a new spinning rod under $100. I saw this at Bass Pro and its on sale for $74.99. I was thinking of pairing the 6'6" M/F with my Quantum Incyte 20. I would be using this for drop shot mainly and other spinning applications. If anyone has used one or has one that can give me your thoughts on this rod? Thanks in advance!
  13. I have never owned a centrifugal brake casting reel, I have only owned and used magnetic brakes. Is there a huge difference between the two types? Are they easier to work with? Backlashes? I have been wanting to try a reel with a centrifugal brake, any and all advice and thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  14. The Revo SX that I have is a 6.4:1 ratio. Sorry I didn't specify the speed.
  15. I have two Vendettas, one 6'6" MF that I use for cranks and treble hooked lures, another 6'6" MHXF that I use for worms, jigs, single hooked lures. Just got a new 2010 Revo SX and looking into getting an Orra SX as well. Which reels would be best suited for which rod? Thanks!
  16. Yeah, I was there on sat with my girlfriend(if you saw me with a cute redhead then that was me), thats when I heard about the deal. I went back on sunday to buy the reel and and get the rod. I had to special order it though cuz they only had RH's I wanted a Lefty. And yeah, It was an awesome show. That was my first tackle show ever. I have only been fishing for a year now.
  17. I checked out the Bassathon show at Anglers in Anaheim, I went to the Pure Fishing booth and picked up the new 2010 Revo SX and got the free rod! I ended up taking back a Vendetta rod that I bought earlier, so in the end I actually ended up paying less that $100 for a brand new 2010 Revo SX! How awesome is that!? And not to mention there is the deal for a free pair of Wiley X sunglasses that im gonna redeem and try to sell to make my total expense lower or at best break even!
  18. In my opinion the Sexy/Foxy Shad color is good for slightly stained to stained water. I have caught a 5lber off of a Foxy Shad Super Spot. Also I believe its something different that the fish haven't seen(at least in my area). I have other lures in the Sexy Shad pattern as well, they have all produced for me. I honestly dont think that it is a fad color. My catches are proof of that! Hope I helped!
  19. Thanks for all the great answers guys! So if I rule out this scale, does anyone have any suggestions on a decent scale that wont break the bank?
  20. I just saw this scale on ebay and wondering if it would work well for weighing bass, I want to get a scale but dont want to fork out $20-30+ for one. Also how do you use the little hook for weighing fish? It does not appear to be sharp, so how would a fish stay on while weighing? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330369545988&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Check it out and let me know your thoughts on this scale. Thanks!
  21. I have been fishing with the senko for a couple of months now. I have only caught one fish, about a pound. Everyone here says they catch fish well, and you need to fish it slow. Well here's the thing. Im not a very patient fisherman I like to constantly do something albeit reeling, twitching, dragging etc. How do you guys with the patience like me fish them? I really need to learn to slow down but cant.
  22. Finally caught a lunker out of Tri City! Here it is!
  23. I just fished my new 6'6" Vendetta MF this morning, it handles like a dream. Its super sensitive I could feel everything the lure was doing. Lost a brand new crankbait on some submerged brush, but other than that I had a good experience with this new rod. It really flings the lures out there. It seems to be able to toss a 1/4oz lipless farther than a 1/4oz lipped crankbait... That doesn't bother me any. I highly recommend this rod for people who are on a budget and want a high end feel.
  24. Thanks for all the help everyone! I settled for another Abu Garcia Vendetta 6'6" MF. Havent tried it out yet but it feels good. Ill give a review after I fish it.
  25. Just caught my PB a couple nights ago. I think it weighs in at 4.5 to 5lbs. I dont have a scale to properly weigh it, so I estimated... I picked up this toad on a Foxy Shad Super Spot. Let me know what you guys think, and think if my estimate is fairly accurate. Thanks!
