  1. At the risk of coming off as ignorant, what do you mean by 'skin hook'? Push the hook completely throught the bait and then stick the point of the hook back into the bait just under the "skin".
  2. Seen them on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/Jackall-Bros-Joint-Lipless-Bait-Baby-Giron-HLG-Blue-Gil_W0QQitemZ350282708656QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item518e79f6b0
  3. At the lake I fish I saw a guy using the smaller version of the Giron and plucked some fish off their beds. So I dont doubt its effectiveness, actually I would like to get 2 of them one regular sized one and the other being the smaller version. Just dont have the money for them right now.
  4. Started using the Jackall Cross Tail shads in the purple smoke color, have not gotten hit on it yet, tried nose hooking, wacky, and even double rigged... What colors have worked the best for you? or your favorite color? Thanks! BTW there are shad in the lake that I fish.
  5. drop shotting a craw will work. I did rather well during the spawn at the local city lake working a craw over the bed. let it sit and shake it and you will get bit. If it takes too long or you grow impatient, hit the bass with the weight, it'll spook but then come back with a vengeance...
  6. I shore fish all the time at city lakes(8' deep max). When I do drop shot, I typically use about 10" or less leader to the weight. Normally about 6-8" will do it for me. As for working it I like to shake it a little let is sit on semi slack line and every now and then let it completely fall to the bottom let it sit for a few seconds and then bring it back up and shake it. As for baits, I have gotten bit the most on roboworm 4" curly tail worms in bold bluegill, second are handpoured craws that I get from a local tackle shop. The craws are worked with a 3-6" leader and deadsticked on tight line and shaken everynow and then. Give it a shot, and let me know how it works out for you. Good Luck!
  7. Im not a huge fan of the screw locks, so if you want I'll take your old Shake2's of your hands.
  8. I have used many different types of trailers, half a baby brush hog, zoom chunks, netbait paca chunks, chigger craws, twin tail grubs, yum crawbugs... the only ones I get bit on are the rage tail baby craws. Might be a confidence thing... I don't know for sure but I only get bit with a rage tail.
  9. lately i have been doing quite well drop shotting a handpoured craw, with a short leader, maybe 3-6 inch. I have been expirementing with different craw type soft plastics and been getting hit on them. So the point im trying to make is that craws on a drop shot... deadly... Try it out and get back to me on how it works out for you.
  10. Everyone is wrong... Your reel is crap. Send it to me and I'll throw it away for you... Seriously, the above answers are more than likely the problem. Or when you spooled your reel you may not have applied the appropriate amount of pressure/tension on the line causing it to lay loose on the spool. When I respool I take a towel and pinch the line between my thumb and index finger while cranking the handle. This creates enough tension on the line so that it spools correctly without applying too much tension where it will create lots of line memory. Also be sure that when you are spooling you have the drag set right or else pinching the line with the towel will do no good, you will have the same problem as before.
  11. To be honest, I actually picked up some lures in the sexy shad color a while back because nobody I know or seen fishing throws that color. And because of that fact it has been my number one producing color pattern. I have cranks, lipless, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and swim jigs, all sexy shad. But the cranks and lipless cranks are where I get most of my fish.
  12. Get an assortment of sizes and colors. I use 1/4oz cranks mostly. Followed by 3/8 then 1/2. As for colors... What I use most of the time: Pearl or white Sexy Shad(or any shad variation for that matter) Bluegill Other colors: Chartreuse (Black, Blue or Brown back) Red Crawdad or any craw color Rootbeer/Baby Bass I have even caught fish at night with a sexy shad colored bait. Its my #1 producer day or night.
  13. 4 and 6 should cover you. Thats all I use.
  14. Man, you guys have some great stuff at your Walmarts... The ones where I live have only ONE aisle full of crap to mediocre rods, cheap reels, small variety of lines, and a poor assortment of lures and soft plastics(for catfish, trout, panfish, and some bass tackle) . Yeah I'll buy stuff there but its usually pretty slim pickins. I wish they had rage tail baits there...
  15. Use a weighted hook. Without the weight on the hook the swimbait will roll and cause line twist. That is just my experience with paddle tail swimbaits.
  16. Seeing as how I just stuck my second jig fish ever tonight, I can safely say that I like to use the regular silicone skirts. From what I have heard and read, they hold up better over time, living rubber gets dried out and cracks(almost like old rubber bands). As for types of skirts, I prefer the "hole in one" type of skirts. The colors dont mix and stay put, I hate getting jigs that have all the strands on one side and you have to even them out and make sure that the color pattern looks right. Just my two cents...
  17. I use gamakatsu trailer hooks in either 1/0 or 2/0. It depends on the size of the spinnerbait hook. Smaller i go with 1/0, bigger 2/0. I highly recommend using trailer hooks, all of the fish that I have caught have been on that trailer hook.
  18. What do you all think about this color pattern on cranks and lipless cranks? Any success? Thoughts? Thanks! http://www.***.com/descpage.html?PCODE=SKPC#pImage
  19. Thanks for the info! I was wondering if there was something wrong with the frog that I bought. Its good to know that they are supposed to be like that.
  20. Well two questions actually... 1. Is the line tie on hollow body frogs supposed to move? (twists slightly to the left and right) 2. How do you change out the hooks on these?
  21. I recently got a 2010 Revo SX-L and when I opened it up to oil the bearings, I noticed that there was grease smeared all around the inside of the palm plate. Is there a reason for this? Can I clean it off without any ill effect to the reel? Thanks!
  22. The quickest way to tie a C-rig would be to use Carolina Keepers, they are a solid piece of plastic with a slit in the middle, you pinch it with a pair of pliers and put your line through it. It works well for quick rigging. http://www.***.com/McCoy_McStopper_8pk/descpage-MCS.html
  23. Seeing as how I have only been bass fishing for a about a year and a few months, its a numbers game for me. But lately I have been wanting to get that big one that I have seen swimming in the lake I fish. It looks to be about a 6-7 pounder, the biggest I have seen in the lake(city lake mind you...). So I have been throwing jigs, and larger plastics than I normally do. Im happy if I get one or two 1-3 pounders when I fish. City lakes are hard to get bit.
  24. Ill definately be going for those 5 for 10 boxes. I want to have separate boxes for different stuff. Not sure if I want to make two trips to bass pro for the super spots and the boxes...
