  1. Fishing a spoon vertical that doesn't require any movement. I like spoon bites that requires some kind of action to get bit. Can be boring and cold, but effective. Matt.
  2. Keep them coming, and I am a newbie when it comes to selling on Ebay. Matt
  3. I am grateful for what I have earned, not been given. EDIT, I am grateful for having a father and mother that whooped my butt, taught me right from wrong, taught me to support my family, so, I am very gratefull for the parents I had, may be not so as the young kid I once was, but am thankful for having parents that gave me the tools to become as what most parents hoped for, law abiding, tax paying citizen. We lose some of those rights that are discussed every day in our freedoms, whether its for the good of the country or not, we lose privacy, the right to say the pledge of allegiance, the right to display religion, all the things the founding fathers based our constituition on. When the Commander and Chief went to war, he had the majority of the peoples blessing, majority of all elected officials. Just like the media, your post is media driven and should be consider fodder for the bird cage. Its not that some of it doesn't hit home, its the media driven statement. Cause this is just another form of what you call "media driven". One of our rights by the way!!!! What am I unhappy with? We provided economic relief, over 50 billion to Russia and can't even take our own homeless off the streets. Some of those that were drafted, not volunteered as you point out have been homeless for years. Heres the confusing part, you post what is written in Newsweek, then tell us to stop buying the venom, the very same venom you write with. Have a nice day! Matt.
  4. Here it is in a nutshell, somehow, and I wasn't even looking for one, I ended up with two of the new 60GB PS3's. I placed one on Ebay for 10 day sale with starting bid of $2250.00. Ending the 15th. My Email is flooded with offers for $5000.oo US dollars. It appears there is a huge market overseas as they are not getting any or vary many. Is it legal to pull an item of Ebay that is listed for 10 day sale? Since they would not be bidding on directly, I would have to give Pay Pal account to this individual (s), is this a standard practice? What kind of steps to ensure I'm not being scammed by someone do I need to take if I was to sell this off line? Why wouldn't they take one that is listed for buy now for 1500.00 instead of offering more money than I asked? They do have a buyer rating that is good, but the last time this individual bought anything off Ebay was 4 years ago. Any advice from those who have actively sold or bought would be nice. Thanks Matt
  5. I was looking at the new comanche's also, sweet boats, big price tag. Matt.
  6. I'm a firm believer, at times, color is very important. Just like watching bass following your buzz bait and turns away. The bass saw something that wasn't right, whether its boat position, your clothes standing out above the water or something amiss from the lure. Subtle changes in the presentations can unlock the door. Summer gives us the most stable pattern of all in Texas, we have blue bird days and High Pressure all summer. There are days that watermelon red flake anything in correct size works, and the next day, watermelon gold flake is the ticket. Could be just plain watermelon seed, or can be candy. Can be a combination of all the above on some days. I think that popular worm holes are beaten to death and bass aren't as apt to hit that color as hard the next day, so minor tweaking is needed, and also shows they see some difference because of they aren't willing to hit what worke yesterday as good until you tweeked the color. I am a firm believer in watching the suns postition in the sky. As Chris eluded to, the suns angle on the water changes throughout the day, and how a bait is seen at noon is not the same as its seen at 3 o'clock due to the change in position of the sun. We also know that when bass are schooling or just in aggressive moods, sometimes color doesn't matter. Its the days that should be the same as yesterday that you may be required to tweak your colors slightly to get bit. Subtle changes can be as small as biting an inch off a seven inch worm, copper blade to a silver blade, white skirt to a translucent white, or down sizing from 3/8 oz spinner to a 1/4 0z spinner. Matt
  7. I learned to spit shot light line in the San Diego Chain of lakes, and its very common in the cooler months to fish anywhere from 40-70 feet. The difference in downsizing your line by 2 lbs can mean fish or no fish. Some days 8lb will work and other days you needed 6lb test. I also found that when rigging live crawdads, line size didn't matter as much, but rarely did I go above 12 lb test. Magna Thin was my choice in the 80's for fishing the So Cal areas. Most of my plastics where locally made by Western Plastics, primary bait of the 80's was a 4inch green weenie, which looks like a drop shot worm today. Matt
  8. As much as I throw topwaters in the mornings and evenings and all the grass that my lakes have, you would think I would try to use a frog more often, but don't. Seems that all the standards still work and I just haven't given them a chance in the last 5 years. Matt.
  9. BPS in Garlland Tx said Jan 2007. Matt
  10. Any New Years Resolutions for 2007? Last year, I said after the Longhorns and Trojan game, I would give up cigs, and at the end of the 3rd quarter of the BCS game, I quit cold turkey. Well, that worked, but I have now taken up smoking Black-n-mild cigars, specially when I fish. Maybe, giving up the cigars in 2007 will get me closer to being smoke free. Matt.
  11. What new toys are gonna be under the tree this year, or maybe in the driveway? I'm working on a new ride, one for the water this year. Fiberglass and stump filled east Tx lakes have taken their tolls on glassed boats lately with droughts and all. I'm looking at a new TX 190 Tracker with 115 or 135 possible. If not, I'm looking at another BassCat or Ranger, don't know yet. I think my daughter is going to put flowmasters under my Durango for me this year. Son-in-law maybe upgrading my speakers also, I told him no rattles or vibrating the windows. The usual stocking stuffers, my daughter only buys what I throw, so there are no surprises after all those years of the "pretty ones". Hookem and Merry Xmas! Matt.
  12. thanks for the link, that is the one that I've been hearing about all of a sudden. Matt.
  13. Any body seen the new Hybrid Blade that is coming out in Jan 07? Was curious to see if anyone has seen one. What makes it a hybrid? ie......what does the design look like? Have heard reports that say, big fish are eating these up. Matt.
  14. There are far more places to buy live shiners and minnows than there are that don't sell them. Matt.
  15. Why should waters that aren't public count? What states look at High Fenced deer kills as records? None to my knowledge. Not much different in the 2, neither are open to the public. Keith, I would have to also disagree with your opinion of how many sharelunkers make it back to its original home. Not all do, and that is up to the angler, and saying the majority isn't even close. Any facts to show where the majority went? Matt.
  16. The fish looks to healthy for sickness. All the stuff I have read, all the years of experiencee, all the swapping of stories. I have associated some redness to being in the livewell with other fish in close-quarters, fanning the bottom drain screen, rubbing the pump out nozzles, or fanning other cull tags. I just never stopped to think about it as stress related. And it makes very good sense. I know livewells on most boats don't consider the kicker to be 15 lbs, plus some other fish added in to boot. I would like to know more about this subject. Matt
  17. After looking at this last picture, all of the fins looks very reddish. Fluke, Something I will study for now on when observing fish from livewells. Wish I had all the facts. How long she was in livewell. Size of livewell. Was she released alive? Matt.
  18. Here are some other shots. I was hoping for more angles to observe the fish.
  19. The above picture has some comments that I for one have never thought about. Some seem to think that the redness on the tail indicates this fish is dieing. Any thoughts on this. My first thought is that Falcon is one of our southern most lakes on the border of Mexico and she looked like she could be a spawner. I have caught spawners off lakes in Texas in late Oct-Nov if weather has been mild before. And none of the lakes that have had bedders in the fall are power plant lakes. Matt.
  20. Heres one that didn't get donated from Lake Falcon. The fish was caught on a DD 22. Tournament weight listed at 14.97. What a pig!!!!!
  21. Personally, I say no to all users period. But in this great country, you are innocent till proven guilty, which few have been caught that are eligible for the HOF. I watched baseball growing up and up into my late 20's. I no longer care for the game because of the issues in the past. They already have a job that most kids who plays any baseball would dream of having, and they sure make enough to support 20 families, and they wanted more. I have been to numerous ball parks in my early years, and it cost enough just to get a decent seat with out the extras to begin with. Baseball has been trying to bury this issue for years, they turned their backs on the issues with minimum testing that only identifies some of the banned substances. If baseball wants any of my support back, do the right thing, test for everything, those tests aren't gonna break any players bank account or owners pockets either. The bash brothers are guilty, and I have no proof of McGuire using anything that wasn't banned, his Creotine wasn't a banned substance at the time. I'd say yes to all that haven't been found guilty on HOF balloting. Only because of the principals of the judicial systyem. Innocent till proven guilty. Matt.
  22. I would love for some of the guys to get one also. A free replica comes with each share lunker donated for spawning purposes. At the end of the summer, all contributors will be notified to come back to the lake of their choice to release the very same fish they donated, most release them back to the original lake, but some don't. Matt.
  23. The first share lunker of the season was landed at Lake Fork Saturday. Texas is fixing to get its first nasty cold weather this year. We have had some cold mornings that warmed up quickly, but this shot that is coming down now will be here for a week. This will start the big fish, they will start showing up regularly now. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/budsharelunker/archives/lunkerdetails.phtml?fishid=424 There was a Bass reported and I have seen the tournament pictures of a 15 plus that was caught at Falcon last week during a tourney on a DD22. Due to catch and release rules of the tourney and being caught on the Mexican side, it was not donated to the program. Hookem Matt.
  24. Confidence is in the mind. What gives me confidence that I can go to a new lake and catch fish 8 out of 10 times? Is it that special lure that everyone else has also? Is it based on my results on new lakes? Or is it based on your knowledge, skill, versitiltity, willingness to change up styles and presentations due to the seasonal conditions, current conditions that always put a fish in the boat? regardless of special lures. My confidence comes from over 35 years of bassing in numerous states, being versitile, learning some science on food chains, and being observant of every condition while on the water. Experience is my confidence. The tools of the trade we use change some every year, the goal is still the same, catch fish. Are you a one dimensional fishermen? Or can you catch fish at all depths? All seasons? Confident or versitile and confident? Matt.
