  1. No I don't have the schematic in front of me and have had other Pfueger's apart before. These seem to be extremely difficult to loosen. I thought perhaps there was something different about them. I will look for the plastic piece mentioned. For as much as I love the feel of these reels, I honestly don't like the handle system. Thanks for y'all's input on this. AND I WON"T OVERTIGHTEN.
  2. I have two Pflueger Summit reels that are in need of maintenance. I can't seem to get the handle off. It's the one where you have to do something to the braking system. Anyone have any hints as to how I can get this handle off without throwing this reel in the river. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ... Mike
  3. And don't forget the Snagless Sally, down here in the marshes of Mississippi they are great. The Bruiser and black and yellow seem to do well. An Uncle Josh's frog is tough to beat as a trailer.
  4. What about other issues ? Is he using a bait that coils the line or twists it, is the bearing on the bail working ok, just thinking of things that may cause the twist without you spending money. The other guys are on the money with the line also. If you can go with a limper line, you could perhaps save yourself some money to spend on the Bait Monkey for him. Just a thought.
  5. Thanks so far guys ... all the input helps. I look back at life and realize some of the OLDER rods I let go that would have been perfect for this app. Trying to keep up with the Jone's sometimes has it's drawbacks.
  6. I love using braided line with my spinner baits and buzzbaits, Only problem I have is, with the newer stiffer rods, I pull the bait from the fishes mouth. I am looking for a parabolic action rod or something with a soft tip and good back bone for this application. Any ideas. I have used fiberglass rods but dang, talk about being worn out at the end of the day ... Thanks in advance for y'alls input. Mike
  7. Thanks guys ... so many people with so much good advice.
  8. Guys (errrr gals), I purchased a broke GLoomis rod and replaced it. It's not a model I would use and now I have the oppurtunity to trade up. Here's the problem, I fish braid a majority of the time. I want a 7' ish GLX but don't know what model. I want it for jigs but don't want a pool cue. I currently use St. Croix's T/L in the teaser model and they are perfect for me. But they are used for small jigs and worms. I want a soft tip but yet enough butt to haul a fish out of cover. With that said, any hints on a model to choose. Thanks y'all.
  9. Thanks ... apples and oranges. Ken, most weekend anglers are better suited for wet cell batteries. They do require maintenance but respond better to not being used as much. Plus the fact they are a good bit cheaper than AGM batteries. Just a thought.
  10. Google deep cycle charging ... it's not the same as normal batteries. Faster is better ... but don't believe me or anyone else that has proven over and over by posting from wensites. They sell 3 bank chargers for smaller boats and the lower amp rating is for the starting battery. Go ahead and try to buy a 20 amp charger ... you'll go broke in the process ... these guys have been fishing along time, they're here to help and not give you a hard time ... why waste their time with a question and then when you get the answer, you argue they're wrong. I have asked a bunch of questions on here and always received good advice. A lot of the time, more than one answer to make me think in more than one direction ... good luck with your choice. BTW, I run a dual pro 10x2 . Had it for 8 years and just had to replace the body on it. Still running strong.
  11. And the ones in my Bullet are black ... guess what. I can't see my fish ... they are heck to get out at weigh in time. Just a thought.
  12. Hey, I have a 1999 Bullet 20 XD that the trailer is rotting out from under. The plan is to sell the boat with a year or so but in the interim I need to get a new trailer. Even though I live close to the coast I can hardly find anyone that makes a galvanized trailer for this boat. I have look at aluminum but am looking in the 3,000 price range. That's too steep for me. Do any of you have any recommendations as to a manufacturer that make a good trailer. I have check the internet and haven't had a good bit of luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike
  13. Down here in Mississippi we use the Snagless Sally's when we can find them. Bruiser and Black/Yellow seem to be favorites.
  14. I have always used the palomar too but go through the loop twice before going around the bait. I also tie a knot in the tag end in case of slippage. I also like the line going through the eye twice. Might be superstitious ... I had a magazine that had a knot that I think Gary Klein used but for the life of me I can't find it. It appeared to pretty simple too and he used it only on braid.
  15. I've seen where the true Lew's fans have 30 or more of them. Some for parts but most for fishing.
  16. I have two sitting on the shelf. For sale ... great reels for the right fisherman. Just weren't for me. Bait monkey made me buy em.
  17. Mostly the brackish waters of the Louisiana and Mississippi coastal areas. An occasional trip to the res but mostly tidal systems. You ???
  18. You had a rod that was around 4-5 years old minimum become completely submerged in water for at least 72 hours. Try that with any rod, regardless of manufacturer and the results will vary depending on what condition the rod was in before you sank it. The rod was in good shape. No major damage but I think when the tip was replaced they overheated the rod making it weak. I lost approx 1 inch. I am hoping a new tip will keep this from becoming junk and that it will still be a useful rod.
  19. Same thing I was thinking Goose. I have two older BPS reels that are worth more in a trade in than selling. Plus, it would give me the oppurtunity to visit the Bait Monkey Superstore ... Glad there isn't one closer !!!
  20. My new 2010 catalog arrived. What did I miss ??? A rebate ... how do I find that?
  21. How about this, I kicked an All Star Titanium over the side and went back 3 days later and caught it. Could water seep into the glue. The tip has broken off and I think it was bad workmanship but it had me thinking. Maybe the rod is delaminating. And ideas ???
  22. Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Canon, Nikon, Minolta. It's a matter of personal preference. Take advice from those that use them, try them all, make up your own mind ... when you get to $75 or more for a reel, they're for the most part, all good ...
  23. 99 Bullet 20XD, 98 225 Pro Max. Rusty trailer and fun to drive. A might too big for alot of the places I fish but she's paid for. I think I'm gonna keep her.
  24. Sorry about that Team_Dougherty. I have diarrhea of the fingers and constipation of the brain. You're right, I meant load test ... Cool, I'll run down to the local shop and borrow their tester and check. Also Way2slow, thanks for the hydrometer tip. I honestly didn't think of testing that way. Getting old is a bear !!! It just bothers me that I buy batteries and try my best to treat them right and they last a year. Just don't seem right. They're Stowaway Tournament series bought at Academy. I would assume they should be decent batteries. Thanks guys ...
