  1. there is a canal along the south side of Broward Blvd and ou west toward Pine Island it gets bigger. South of there between Griffin and Orange Rd runs the c-11 and the fishing there can be quite good. Hope this helps
  2. Congrats on the "looks like new" boat and a great first day. I'm sure I'll see you on the water some time
  3. don't know for sure as to fishing conditions but this time of year, it ought to be on fire
  4. So, how did the day go on Friday?
  5. Spent a lot of time trolling around looking at bedding areas etc but did get four bites: a 7, two 5s and a 3. Sunday, we pretty much just fished and caught lots of 2-3s and had a biggun hooked up but lost-looked bigger than the 7 but who knows until its in the boat and on the scale
  6. Ditto on the previous post-that canal runs out to Holiday Park where it runs into the pump system-then out past that to the Miami Canal-it is referred to as the Center Canal out there. It is officially the C-11-many places are an excellent multi-species fishery
  7. Heading to Lakeport tomorrow for a pre-fish for a tournament. Hope I can find them there
  8. Another point of view: It is great fun to play a fish but keep in mind that your fun is putting great stress on that fish. To me it's all about the fish-the fisherman can take care of themselves but when a fish is in our control it depends on us to take care of them
  9. That's Steve and that's why I always recommend him. He is a great guide and above all a teacher and when Tommy Saunders introduced him on one of the first of the Day on the Lake on ESPN shows he said "you are in for a real treat...above all Steve Daniels is a real teacher....sit back and learn". A day on the water with Steve is like a playing lesson from a PGA tour pro One of my fav SD lines: "let's through a ________, just to keep them honest"
  10. Zell in particular had a feast or famine tournament with a heck of a second day
  11. I'd recommend Captain Shane Procell!
  12. Maybe so but in California for example, any fish caught at any time (bed or not) that doesn't have at least one hook in the mouth does not count and I think some other states have similar rules too. Just have to know the rules of the state and the tournament circuit you are fishing in.
  13. From late November to maybe mid-April, some percentage of the fish are pre-spawn, some spawning and some post-spawn.There were some fish on beds near Belle Glade in December. To me this is normal but it has been even more spread out this year due to the erratic weather. For a time there, it seemed like whenver the moon cycle (full or new) would be conducive and you'd see some fish moving up, then a wild front would come through and they'd be off again. But, make no mistake there has been a lot of spawn and the lack of bigger females may be indicative of post-spawn funk too. Now this is more true down here and at the Lake and I can't speak that much to central FL
  14. ditto plus if the guide works for a guide service I try and find out what their cut is and then make the guide whole-it's usually about 10-15%
  15. Try Henderson's which is more down by Lake Placid on the south and west side of the lake or Trail's End on the north side of the Lake. Both have what you mentioned
  16. The Big-K is now in the 60s, and the bass are in 1 to 3 ft of water. We did best in the South Slough, the Highway Canal (beside FL-60) and also in the Keyhole just N of bouy "1". (look for circular clearing in spatterdock on left side). Given wind under 30 mph, it should be worth the run to "Jack Slough". Pro guides who live in my area are now focusing on Jack Slough (north point & jackson creek), but typically use live minnows for their clients (a 9-lber was taken from the Slough this past weekend) Roger Very interesting on that swimbait rig-thanks for posting
  17. Can't do any better than Steve-see if Mark King is available on any of those other days
  18. Good stories there but definitely should not count. Most clubs have a provision in their rules along the lines of "legally caught on rod and reel" or something to that effect. If not, then you could put out a trawl seine behind the boat like a commercial fisherman LOL
  19. That is so much fun. Catch one and you might catch 50 or a 100. Wish we had them down here. Great way to get a kid interested in fishing too.
  20. I had a non-boater in a tournament one time kinda dogging it in the morning. I asked him what was up and he said he was waiting until about 12:10 and then he would focus as that's what the tables said was the best time to fish. Thankfully this dude was not my partner in a team tournament! I guess my larger point would be fish when you can and fish as hard as possible all the time when you are on the water.
  21. X2 It's hard to beat good ole Big Game for performance and price
  22. The leader is Don Demott with 23+
  23. That was neat. I have seen Zona a few times off camera and the thing about him is that he is exactly the same way off camera as on. With him it is not an act and what you see is what you get.
  24. I have a couple Compre's set up with Saharas and its a very good bang for the buck IMO. I use one for shaky-head and the other for jerkbaits. I will admit to a bias not to spend too much on spinning reels though
