  1. I had one but I slammed the car door on it and busted it in half ha ha. It was a good combo but might I suggest getting a quantum bill dance select combo, they are the same price and I find I can cast further and backlash less with it. Bass pro is clearing them out so you might find one for cheap. I paid 60 for mine like 2 years ago I believe.
  2. Oh there will be more I know how it is with the family functions, I have alot of those this month...yay
  3. Speed why did your wife take a photo of you on the crapper? Gross Oh and string nice photo. All I can hear right now looking at that is "bou chica wow wow"
  4. Yeah swimbaits should be the ticket. Spinnerbaits are probably going to work too, just nded to have stained water (which raystown is almost always stained). Where are you launching from? Hit the feeder creeks and points first wherever you are, they will be a good spot to start especially if it's a point closer to the main lake.
  5. I use the rapala knot on almost all my hard baits. I never have had an issue with breakage. I use it on flies too and it really shows it's superiority on light lures like that. The action I get out of flies and nymphs is just awesome. Give it a try, it's a pretty strong knot.
  6. Where are you from? You should come to the meet up on the 25th. Anyway, the bass should be on fire this month. They will start eating shad like crazy to get fat for winter. Depending on the weather (mainly the temperature) you'll probably find fish at any depth. Fall is the best time to hit Raystown, all the big game species are active!
  7. A buddy left his fenwick rod at my house and left for college so I've been using it. It looks like its the same rod only the one I have is 7 foot. It's a great rod, light weight, sensitive and has great backbone. Id buy one for myself the next time I need a rod, but ill keep using his until he realizes I have it ha ha
  8. Also you don't need to have 10 different rods to be successful either. I use 2 about 99% of the time. I have a baitcaster I use most of the time, then an ultra light for when it gets real tough. Both of these rods plus the reels were under 60 per setup.
  9. Thanks for the tip. I'll look into that stuff once I get some bodies cut.
  10. Thanks gents, had a great trip! The reel was very sluggish at the beginning but after about 20 minutes on the water, it opened up again. I'm going to clean it this week and see if I can fix it up
  11. Thats the spirit ;D And I took apart a $25 Quantum and it was a little hard to get off. All you need is to wiggle it up and down slowly to get it off, atleast in my case. Make sure to take it off slowly because sometimes a spring will say bye bye you have no idea how many phones I have taken apart and saw springs and connectors fly all over the place... Sometimes you need them, sometimes they were just extra
  12. Should the side be that hard to get off though? I ran a splitter around the side that I use to get cell phones apart with at work (its just a plastic wedge with a handle). It just wouldn't pop off. I just picture pulling to hard and parts fly all over the place ha ha. Thanks for the tips everyone. After my trip ill dig into this baby. If I can't fix it, I guess I'll need to buy a quantum smoke
  13. I have some eagle claw oil and I also bought the grease. It was my intention to do the proper cleaning and greasing. I got the handle and drag star off (and all the washers behind the star) took the clutch adjustment off also. I then unscrewed the screws holding on the side, but it wouldn't pop off so I decided to quit (i didn't know how much force it took so I kept it wimpy haha). I put everything back together, put a tiny tiny drop of oil in the cap of the clutch. I then put a tiny drop of oil on both sides of the spool. It's getting better but still a little off (i keep casting it in the yard ha ha). I should just clean and grease it but I have a big trip planned tomorrow and this is my main rod atm...
  14. I think I'll just buy a new reel. This was my cheap reel (it's my bill dance select quantum combo). Id probably have more money in the repair then the reel is worth. I think I can get one for around 30 dollars now. DVT is what I said true? Ha ha If not I'll be sending this to you its a quantum DS301CX. Quantum told me it's almost identical to the old Tempos. I think it's the 2007 model (pretty sure they made some changes to that model in 2009).
  15. ok heres what I did: Took my handle off my baitcaster, removed the drag adjustment then I stopped because I didn't feel comfortable trying to grease my reel before a big trip. I put it all back together the way it came out (i laid it out as I disassembled). I put a small amount of oil (I'm talking maybe a pinhead drop) into both sides of the spool. I cranked a few times to work the oil in. I also put a drop in the clutch. Now the reel feels fine, but when I cast toward the end of the cast the reel slows. I really have to throw to get a decent cast. It's odd though because when I crank or let the bait fall under it's own weight the spool seems fine. Its almost like magnetic brakes are on lock down... I have to set the brake adjustment to 1 to get a decent cast with no resistance. Could I have moved something and put the brakes on overdrive?
  16. Yeah that's a neat machine! We will see how far I get into this before I worry about mass production ha ha I highly doubt I'll ever need to make anywhere near 100 I just noticed I have been spelling curving instead of carving... Thanks for looking out for me guys (no one said a word ) seriously though, thanks for all the help everyone!
  17. Hey if you want to get rid of some of those, I'll buy some I had a few and they worked ok. I wouldn't say it was anything that was AMAZING (like I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one) but they held their own.
  18. What color was your crank? Do they like the chartreuses and greens?
  19. Thanks for all the help! I'll get some of those syringes. Hopefully I'll get some good cranks made
  20. Hey Vodkaman I remember you from TU. My username is nfollmer over there. I ditched my soft plastics ideas for now, it's just going to cost too much to get started Hopefully someday I can start making my designs or someone will pick them up... but I digress.... I don't mind having to clean up the CNC marks after it's cut. Trust me, if you saw my curving skills, you'd see why I'm doing it that way I might look into the plastic resin also, but I just want to cut a few halves to see if this is something I want to keep doing or not. Also, I like having the wood in halves because then I could add weights or rattles in different areas to experiment with placement and all that fun stuff
  21. Sorry, I meant to say Ultra V and Trondak Anyway, great info here so thanks a lot! I was thinking 2 oz would only do maybe 2 or 3 baits so thats good to hear that I could possibly get 20. I have a feelings I'll be spending a lot of money once I get started because this looks very addicting haha.
  22. This may some completely stupid because I have never done any of this before but what if you did a coat of Ultra V let that cure, then did a run of Flex coat? Maybe that would protect better from hooks ripping the bait? Maybe it's more work than what it's worth but just a thought I was just going to ask you where you got it at so thanks for answering Oh another question: Roughly how many baits can you cover with 2 oz? Just say a 2 1/2 crank to keep it simple
  23. Thanks for this info. I'll have to get a little of both and see how well I do
  24. Looks good! I never used any red spinnerbaits, I wonder how well that would work around here?
  25. Nice looking cranks! I like cedar bodies, I know some people split them, but I haven't had any issues yet
