  1. I think he is asking which organization is more elite... Personally, I like both series. I think FLW is more... I don't know... non fishing friendly? (you have sponsors like Kellogg's, Fribeeze, etc...). Is one better than the other in terms of talent? I don't think so, but being a Bassmaster Elite angler is what everyone seems to want to be, so Bassmasters gets my vote! I'd fish either though if I had the chance
  2. You are just a wealth of information I'll try some of those fishing only beaches in dewey if I can't get anything out of the bay/ocean transition... I have an old surf rod my great gram used to fish with down in Florida (she was one of those people that live in Florida in the winter and here in PA in the summer). It's an antique though and I would like to keep it for a man cave that will never get finished
  3. DEET is the best insect repellent hands down, but if you are worried about the smell, try something natural like lemongrass oil. Bugs hate it and it even smells kind of nice. I don't know if it effects fishing at all, but it works!
  4. Man, look at it this way... It can only get better. I try to laugh everything off because dwelling over bad experiences are just going to make it worse. There has to be a plus side to everything... Now who wants a hug?
  5. I'm not really sure where I'm going to be fishing yet haha. I know I don't want to fish from the beach (tried that once, I don't have the proper equipment to do that). I think there was a spot in Lewes or near there where the ocean entered the bay. It had some nice rip rap (is it still called rip rap in salt? I think I'm talking about a Jettie lol). I was going to try there. I want to stay as close to the water as possible and not fish off of a super tall pier. I was going to throw some Hollow Belly Swimbaits, Rapala Countdowns and other larger jerkbaits. The Capt. I was talking to (the guy that owned the tackle shop) said they should all work this time of year. He also said Jigs would be worthless because of the undertow. I guess I need to figure out WHAT I want to target before I just start tossing lures out. I used to fish in the bay with squid and catch flounders, but I want to target something different. More like stripers or snook. I used to catch Kingfish when I would go to Beach Haven, that was pretty fun (I was 7 at the time though haha). I saw some fishing reports of guys catching smaller hammerhead and mekos, but I'm pretty sure my tackle couldn't handle something like that The guys at the tackle shop said they could give me more info when I stop in, but I wanted to do a little more research BEFORE I got there so I'm a little more prepared. I know it all depends on the tide and such but would you recommend in terms of time of day?
  6. I agree with everything you said Glenn. I'm not here to brag AT ALL but I hate the age I'm at right now. I hate being lumped into this generation. Most people my age DON'T want to work for anything. They want everything handed to them. Everyone says I'm a 50 year old man in a 23 year olds body. I hate social networking (I don't do the myspace, facebook... this is about as close to social networking as I get), I feel my generation relies too much on technology and it's making them lazy (yeah that sounds funny coming from myself because I'm a programmer, but its true ). When I approach companies, I don't expect to be put on the free ride list because I know I'll have to prove myself to them. Honestly, I'm happy with promoting the products I believe in and getting a discount in return (I don't care how small it is, it's still less than I would pay in stores for promoting something I use). Everyone always asks me how I'm so mature (HA) for my age and where I got my work ethics from. All I can say is, I was brought up right and I worked for EVERYTHING I wanted. I'd feel like I was cheating a company if they handed me stuff and I didn't do anything in return. When you're on a companies staff, you're an employee for that company. If you don't work at your normal job, you don't get paid. Treat it as such for sponsorships too! I know this sounds like I'm bragging and I don't mean to be bragging at all. I just need to defend the few of us youngster's that still have a work ethic!
  7. Thanks SirSnookalot. I have been talking to a local tackle shop down there and they have been pretty helpful. I know it's going to be tough fishing, especially since I have no experience in fishing tidal waters OR salt. When I say bass tackle, I'm talking 65lb braid on 7 ft. heavy action rods I'm only going to be there for 3 days and probably only get to fish for 1 of those days so I figured I'd just try and use what I already have. I'll let you know how it goes
  8. Reeling them in steadily is not the only way to fish them. Yeah, I realize that, that's why I was asking HOW they were fished weightless.
  9. We could have sunk that day will how big the waves were (we were using a little rowboat with a trolling motor). If I didn't keep the front into the waves, it would almost flip us... I think the banana superstition is a fact... NO BANANA'S PEOPLE!
  10. People of Delaware! I am coming to the area next week to do some salt fishing. I will only be fishing from shore and I was wondering if any of you guys could give me some tips on where to go. I really only want to use my bass tackle (swimbaits, larger jigs, etc...), simply just to prove I can do it and because I'm cheap Any advice you could give would be awesome!
  11. I saw a video of guys that mounted skateboard wheels to it and used it for a skateboard... They actually had a very hard time breaking the thing! (besides the glass) I want to see any laptop (besides a Panasonic tough book) do that! Pointless I know.... If you have a laptop, I don't think they are targeting you with this device. It's more like people who need a laptop or some other mobile device, this is a quick and easy solution for them.
  12. He also loves to catch carp on a fly. They love nymphs soaked in vanilla (I put a paper towel dipped in vanilla in my fly box and they all pick up the scent). Carp almost always get you down to your backing haha I just got into fly fishing this year and it has to be just as exciting as fishing with a jig or topwater!
  13. How can you run them weightless? If I don't use a weighted hook or swimming jig the money minnows just twist like crazy! I can get Shadalicious swimbaits to run weightless though?
  14. I thought the formula was length x length x girth / 1200 ? Girth plays the biggest part of a large fishes weight. Not trying to argue, just letting you know a different or possibly better formula. Maybe that formula you listed will suffice if girth measurement is not available. Nice fish dude! Looks to be at least 7 lbs with that kind of length. I just looked in my old Infishermen book I have (smallmouth bass secrets, its OLD). It's listed as Length x Length x Length / 1600... but again, it's a smallie formula... who knows, I'd think you would have to add in the girth also to get a good result (a 12 inch fish thats super fat is obviously going to weigh a lot more than a super skinny 12 incher)... Stupid math! Stay out of fishing!
  15. If the alarm has to wake me up to go fishing... I should just stay in bed. Usually I'm up a good half hour before I plan to get up when I know I'm going fishing! Keep the banana's out of the boat... Still don't know where that came from but it's so funny EDIT: Actually, one day we went to Walker Lake... It was calm and a perfect day when we left. As soon as we got to the lake, it was super windy and the trolling motor wouldn't get us anywhere because of the wind (we had to get out and walk the boat to shore, couldn't even get it back to the launch). Guess what we had with us that day? 2 banana's!
  16. Another tip too. If you're line does start moving (even if the fish starts pulling your drag) SET THE HOOK! I can't tell you how many times I used to get too excited and just start reeling. Just because the fish can pull that hard to engage the drag, it doesn't mean it's hooked.
  17. Stay with Verizon! Haha Wait for the droid x or droid 2. I currently have the droid and love it. Once the 2.2 update comes out, you'll be able to tether and create a mobile hotspot with your phone (it will create a wifi signal and 5 devices can connect to your phone and use internet). You'll also get flash (a guy I work with has the Nexus One and it got 2.2 a few days ago, the flash works flawlessly).
  18. I doubt it. The margin's on Apple products are miniscule. Yeah, I was exaggerating a bit... ok a lot... I'm not going to get into details here I forgot to ask, did you get the one that has the AT&T aircard built in?
  19. I'm holding out for an android tablet pc. I have a personal grudge with apple because they wouldn't let our store sell the iphone (I bet we lost hundreds of thousands of dollars over that!). The ipad does look awesome though! Too bad myoutdoortv.com doesn't work that would make it perfect haha.
  20. Slickone - try the rage craw on a football head jig. One of my favorite ways to use the rage craw (besides t rigging of course). The only rage bait I haven't used yet is the smokin' rooster - I love em all!
  21. I'd say 8.5lbs. Quick way to get close to the weight (with smallmouths anyway, largemouths are usually a little heavier): Length x length x length / 1600 So 24 x 24 x 24 / 1600 = 8.24 then I added a bit and got 8.5
  22. x2 on the slip sinker. Catfish are bottom feeders so you have to get the bait on the bottom. If you're using a C-rig, that bait has the potential to float.
  23. At least you'll have calfs and arm's of steel! Unless you're using a riding mower... then you'll just be lazy
  24. I'm happy with 1 fish per trip As long as the action is decent (I'd say maybe 1 to 2 fish an hour) then I'm happy. If I'm in a boat, I don't care what happens, I just love floating haha.
  25. Great fish and I love the photo too. It kind of has that old 70's look to it (like the colors are analog) also, the depth of field looks great too (focused on fish, blurred background).
