BPS reel trade in program?
I'm not sure I want to drive 95 miles one-way to my nearest BPS store, but I do have 2 Shimano B-Mag reels that are 25 years old that I could trade in :

BPS reel trade in program?
Take a look at page 6 of the catalog - near the left edge - Reel Trade-Ins Feb 26- March 3. I have never participated in this program and can't speak to the specifics of how it works. I think if you show up at a BPS store during that time period, and buy a new reel - they will give you some level of trade-in allowance on your old reel.

US Reels
I looked at them as well - cool concept, and in theory should give you longer casting distances as they say. So far, I've never handled one or know anyone who has.

Bait monkey problems!
Sometimes BPS comes to you! I got the 2010 catalog yesterday and am now on page 219 ....... making a list as I go ............ ;D Did you see the price on the 2010 z7 w/150? Yep - right on the inside front cover - a great deal - $2k less than the 2009 catalog. Luckily, I'm not tempted to spend over 20k on a boat though - the little lakes I fish range from 4 to 204 acres so I don't need a 60mph rig ;D I will be getting a canoe within the next few months though - much more in my price range :

best spinning reel in 50 buck range
x2. I bought one to keep in the trunk of my car along with a pack rod. Not a bad reel - seems pretty solid - and comes with a spare spool. There are 4 sizes available.

Trolling Motor Shaft Length / MG VariMAX Digital Kayak TM
Anyone seen the new MotorGuide VariMAX Digital Kayak trolling motor? 45lb thrust, 20" shaft, with the digital power managment. Do you think the 20" shaft would be long enough to run on a side-mount on a canoe? Or does a 30" shaft work better on a canoe? Thanks

Radisson Canoe - Fully Rigged !
I searched back a few years and know there is at least one Radisson owner out there. Any others have a Radisson and can share their experience? I'm looking at the 12' pointed model - 34lbs. Thanks

BPS 2010 BC Reel Lineup
Right now, the Carbonlite is only available as a RH in 6.4 ratio. They have sold-out twice and taken it off their web site each time. It's back on the web site now for the third time. Hopefully, they'll come out with a broader CL line-up. As always with BPS reels, I will be waiting for the eventual sale...

BPS 2010 BC Reel Lineup
Nope. Same reels at a lower price. : I knew it wouldn't be "all people" - perhaps just "more" ...!

BPS 2010 BC Reel Lineup
Yep - unless they had a tremendous margin before on the JM Gold - you wonder how they shaved $100 out of the reel. Still, the specs read the same as the 2009 model and both JMs seem to be great values. For me, I'm sticking with the PQs (except for getting a Carbonlite).

BPS 2010 BC Reel Lineup
Got the 2010 BPS catalog today and there are some significant changes in the price structure and a few additions/deletions in the higher-end BC reels: Johnny Morris Gold reels reduced from $270 to $170 (regular price - not a sale price) Johnny Morris Signatures reduced from $180 to $120 New to the lineup - the Carbonlite reel (6.7oz) - $120 (I will be getting one of these when they go on sale) The Prolite Finesse is dropped - I guess replaced by the larger, but same weight, Carbonlite (It would be nice if they would come out with a narrow spool version of the Carbonlite and knock a bit more weight out of the reel when you don't need 125 yards of 12lb) The "new" RCX Power Fishing reel replacing the Rick Clunn reel. The RCX is the same price ($110), with the same weight and feature set as the RC reel - just a different color (purple) - don't know if the internals are the same (Note that the RC reels are still on closeout at $90) Pro Qualifier - same price ($100) - and with the new 4.7 and 5.2 ratios as was announced on another thread in this forum. The 6.4 and 7.1 ratio PQs are still on sale at $80. Extreme - Same price ($80) and looks like the same line-up And the rest....didn't pay attention... Hmmm - I wonder if at the new prices more people might be interested in the Johnny Morris reels (instead of bashing them ;D).

senko setup: casting vs spinning
I replied "Both" - just depends on the weight of the bait and the wind conditions. I was going to get ONE more high-end rod to use as a dedicated Senko rod - a Loomis BCR893 ................. but now that I hear that RW ONLY uses spinning gear for those 6" Senkos, I'm having second thoughts! ;D

Hope I get use to reeling left handed!
Because a ways back, just about all (or perhaps all) spinning reels had cranks on the left side - there were no reversable handle reels - I think that probably started in the late 70s or so. Same with baitcasters, I don't recall a whole lot of BC reels with cranks on the left way back when - they were just about all "right handed" (right cranking) reels. So, that's where the "tradition" comes from ...

I'm freakin out!
The weather hasn't been too bad here in beautiful Cumberland Co. Tennessee and I've been getting out almost every day. Only had my rod guides ice up once when I was fishing at 29 deg. Water temp has been running about 42 degrees though and catching in my little lakes here is poor. I haven't caught a fish in December yet :-/ Haven't seen a bass since November but did have two nice rainbows follow my spinner back to the bank a few days ago. Now, if they just would have hit ......

G loomis Best All around rod
You didn't say what type of fishing and what techniques you were interested so that makes a difference. In my case, I fish open water with smaller baits and I decided to get the GLX MBR842C - 7'mf. However, based on another recent thread about all-around rods, the Loomis experts on this forum pointed to the MBR783C - 6 1/2'mhf. Here's what Loomis says about this rod: A good Choice for fishing light to medium jigs and worms, the 783 was designed to fish bass, northerns and even walleyes in certain applications. But it also makes a very nice light saltwater rod for snook, redfish and specs. It's powerful, with a light tip, which allows for a good hookset, and still has enough power to move fish away from cover, without feeling too stiff. If we had to choose one casting rod for all of our fishing, the 783 would be our choice. I may get ONE more Loomis rod to go with my MBR842, and that will be the BCR893 for Senkos and other plastics... If you haven't yet - browse the Loomis web site - they have recommendations for all their rods.

Daiwa reel on Shimano rod
Not quite that extreme but I have a BPS Pro Qualifier reel on a GLX Loomis - works for me! But I do have an extra Zebco 202 laying around...hmmmmm At the end of the day, you want to put together a balanced outfit that will help you catch fish, I don't think the manufacturer matters as much as the efficacy of the gear. And, in some cases, that might mean putting a spin-cast reel on a sensitive rod - if it works for you !

Hope I get use to reeling left handed!
I tried to make the switch. I bought an old Shimano left-handed reel on eBay and played with it for a while and gave up. As you said, we crank left-handed with spinning gear so why is it hard to crank lefty on a BC reel? Anyway, I gave up and still crank right-handed on my BC reels. Plus, since I have 7 right-handed BC reels, I've got that equipment investment to think of ...

Keeping reels outside when its cold
By outside - do you mean a dry, unheated space? Or outdoors? I would think that storage indoors at room temperature and low humidity would be best if possible. In my case, all my gear is in my garage which is insulated but unheated and can drop as low as 38 or so during the coldest part of the winter. So far, no problems with my stuff as far as corrosion or other adverse affects that I've noticed. Perhaps grease in the reels could get a bit stiff and I don't know if there is any long-term effect on the lubricity of the grease or oil...

Merry Christmas
And a Merry Christmas to all ! Anybody going fishing today? I'm leaving in about 15 minutes ...................although at this time of year, in my little lakes here, it's more about casting practice than catching .... ;D
