  1. Everything and anything you throw in the water has a vibration or signature . Marabou jigs - ned rigs - can be successful in muddy water. The bass live there - they know if anything is around.
  2. The fish are not going without food - that's what makes this sport so much fun.
  3. I don't care if you bed fish or not. I once did but years back it started bothering me - it's not about conservation for me as I frequently fan cast areas that hold bedding fish and I catch them and release them . It just no longer feels right for me so I don't -
  4. Basically my technique - except I try not to impart action since my aging trembles seem to give very adequate movement when I deadstick.
  5. Agree - if it has a hook it will catch fish - you just have figure out what and where
  6. We all know bass like to ambush prey along the shade line - I fish it from different approaches but usually sun to shade if possible.
  7. Used to be black, white and yellow - all caught fish - then a guy showed up with blue worms and we slayed them - then came purple and then the rainbow of choices we now have. Great fun and maybe sometimes needed but black, white and yellow are still effective.
  8. Fishing the everglades for years we used 100% deet - it works but it is a fish repellent also so keep your hands clean. This has been proven in trials several times.
  9. Ned doesn't take credit for the technique he rightly credits Chuck Woods who developed it in the 60's.
  10. I would use a topwater or something like the original rapala - but I've also used a float with a grub or wacky rig in those predicaments with pretty good success, particularly if there is a bit of breeze.
  11. The lesson is pay attention
  12. insect repellent is the proven fish repellent -
  13. It floats and the more fish it catches the better it gets. Many baits have caught over a 100 fish and are still usable.
  14. True but the devil is in the details. Always called it the little rig but Ned rig is a good moniker. Elaztec has changed the deal. Never cared to push one product over another but the elaztec stuff is a huge game changer for this technique that I have been using for over 50yrs.
  15. I back off and throw a big noisy topwater - while not a very effective numbers wise it does catch large fish in a neutral mood when shallow.
  16. I have a 5000 I scraped money together to buy in the late 60's. I put bearings in it later (had to sand shaft down some) I use it for s-wavers - casts them a mile and has strong gears. That said I wouldn't put bearings in (it didn't increase casting distance) I would just give it a real good cleaning and fish with it for whatever.
  17. Use to fish them a lot - plastic worms caught most but noisy top waters cast repeatedly caught the biggest.
  18. I love the chug bug but like the old creek chub plunker I consider it a chugger. Bob Pop by demon lures!
  19. I use to think from the high 50's on up but a few winters ago while float n fly fishing in 49 degree water had a sm hit my float.
  20. For wacky rigging I've always used senko types - that said the trick worm has caught tons of bass for me but usually on jig or t-rigged. I know guys wacky rig tricks but I've never seen the need, but then I'm lazy.
  21. Thinking - I doubt that - but studies have shown a certain percentage of bass are pretty much uncatchable -
  22. Not a chance - bass are genius compared to trout. Trout can be wary but not smart.
  23. I did it for years. First fly fishing for bonefish with one client only. Then bass fishing various spots and then Florida everglades. If folks wanted to use shiners I told them of guides that would be good for that style. If I ever thought a client wasn't having a good day with me I wouldn't charge. The guide should NEVER fish unless client asks him and then it was to demonstrate technique. I had a few rules - 1- no getting drunk in my boat, 2- no politics or religion, 3- no killing fish without reason. I met wonderful people, helped several to their personal best, best of all was when they caught their big fish on topwater. But, man, it was hard work and long hours.
  24. Anyone can make a boat move - keeping it stationary is the deal. Many great successful fishermen use anchors.
  25. You want a powerful rod with a softer tip - fast action will jerk it away. Love my old Daiwa L&T frog rod.
