Lucky Craft knows they will not appeal to those who shirk at a ten plus dollar lure and produce a product with the intent of targeting a segment of anglers. That angler is also savvy enough to know what they want and why and are less impulsive. Strike King targets another demographic and hopes what price point won't attract, PR, commercialism and marketing will. I wish for once, a major event like the classic was won on a bait that has been out of production for 20 years.

The key phraze, " stained to muddy " pushes me to the clearer of the two locations. It sounds like the water temp was below 40 degrees with the note of snow on the ground before the warm trend. If that trend pushed to the temp into the low 50's, clear is still preferable over stained to muddy. I would move to those points and slow crank and drag a jig to start my day and if the water warms further, maybe flip and pitch shollower wood. Regardless, sounds like a great opportunity to go fishin'.

For your FIRST dedicated crankin rod to meet that wide spectrum of baits, depths and cover, I would go to a medium or moderate action graphite in the 7' range. I don't see myself or anyone else as a fool for preferring a glass rod. I use graphite, glass and a composite depending on the conditions. I fish alot of smallmouth and they are notorious for slashing at baits and my hook, land ratio improved with glass/composite rods. You might explore that option in the future and make the choice for your self. Brand is up to your discretion.
