luhr jensen speed trap vs reg. lipless
Two completely different lures. Both have a tight wiggle but lipless sink on the pause and the Speed Traps will float up. The 1/4 Speed Trap runs to about 5.5 feet on #12. If you are fishing shallow flats the Speed Trap could make that little change up that works. I have seen it when the ST produced better than a RT or a Vibe. Don't count out the 1/8 size. They cast well for their size and when the bite is tough, it shines best.

Inherited some nice vintage equipment...now what?
As stated, your Lamiglas is a drift rod. The G500 series was an entry level low modulus graphite. The Millionaire was an entry level reel. The Shimano Bantam is a collectable to be honest. They sold for about 40 to fifty bucks and a good one in the box fetches a hundred bucks. They are great keep sakes.

New Lews review
I picked Doug's (BassnBlvd) brain and did some more research before I bought the T series Lews. I fished it all day Tuesday. This reel casts as well if not better than my Revo Premiers. It is slightly narrower than the premier. I love the paddle grips, but I also fished the original Lews for almost 30 years. The reel held exactly 100 yard of Suffix Seige #14. It was windy and I only applied the mag brake two clicks and had no backlash issues. Distance was exceptional. The reel palms very well. I did order a second T series. Does this reel warrant selling my Premiers ? No, not really. It certainly deserves serious consideration, at least after those of us who chose to take the calculated risk to buy one can see how they hold up. I can't confirm it but I would bet a LC Pointer this reel is manufactured in the same facility Pure fishing products are produced. I wouldn't call this reel " special " but the company is attempting to make a statement and go after a piece of the market share in a very competetive segment of the industry.

Lews SS1?(baitcaster)
I can't comment on the SS1 but I did just buy the Tournament model in 6.4 to 1. I did my home work first and the reviews are collectively very positve and I see why. I have two 2010 Revo Premiers and I would match my Lews with the Premier for initial performance. It would be premature to comment on durability. This reintroduction of an old brand name deserves serious consideration. The mark of satisfaction is when a consumer is a repeat buyer. I have another on order. I will share more as I have the time to put it to the test.

Revo STX or Another Curado
Both reels have excellent reviews and perform extremely well. You would be happy with either. What models feels best in the hand? It's a win win scenario.

Fishing Confidence
Confidence brings focus to what you are doing. Being focused can help you to be more observant. Being more observant provides you with information to process and then you can apply what you have learned to make the best decisions that increase your chances of putting fish in the boat. I'm never confident I WILL catch em, but I am confident I can stay focused and apply everything I have learned to increase my chances to catch em'. Misplaced confidence can be a hindrance. My dad told me to be confident but not cocky.

Toro or winch?
The Toro is a large reel. I see it being used for BIG swimbaits. The Winch is an outstanding reel. I have three and love them. I actually prefer the Winch over my other Revo models. Shop, shop, shop. Picked mine up on an instore special for 179.99 each.

Cleaning Cork and Reels.
Best thing i've learned on this forum is use the Magic Eraser. For what it's worth, I pre seal the fills on all my rods with super glue when new. The fills don't wash out and the corks holds up great, so I can clean in longer with Magic Erasers.

Keeping your tackle hidden from wifee?
I've been married for almost 38 years. There has to be a level of trust. I have a policy that has served me well, no overtime-no stuff. I was able to justify my current boat because of a promotion and only 30% of that wage increase went to the boat. We live in a single income home and she earns everything I make and then some.

Best wife ever!!
MY wife would have said, " Don't you have to actually catch a fish to need a net ? "

What have you purchased recently????? 2010
Got a new Lowrance for the front of the boat and some baits for an up coming trip to Clear Lake. Also picked up a sweet new high chair for my newest granddaughter. Titanium frame and teflon coated tray top. None of my grand kids are going to eat in some mundane cheap high chair.

How will gas prices effect your fishing.....
I used to run to the local lake for a four to five hour trip. Not any more. Trips are less frequent but longer in duration. I used to treat friends to trips and never took money for gas because I was going any way. I will not turn down an offer to chip in. My buddy and I try to hit some locations that are two hours to 5 hours away. We split gas and will try to do over nighters to capitalize on the drive cost and less all day jaunts. We don't use much boat gas and we each have 150's. Better planning and PB & J instead of pizza on the way home. Looks like quality and not quantity for trips this year.

Suggestions for hollow bodied tubes?
Big Bite produces a good economical tube. There's some unique colors in the west made by Dry Creek Outfitters and Outlaw Baits as well. Strike Coffee tubes are great baits. Green Pumpkin, cinnamon and a bait fish color like pearl white or shad are a great place to start.

Who Pushes You To Be Better?
The fish. No one can motivate you. They can however, inspire you. Motivation comes from within yourself. I think Ricky Clunn said that. If he didn't, he should have.
