Mixed message on bait quality
That's very true. The other side of the coin is manufactures look to demographics. Lucky Craft knows they will not appeal to those who shirk at a ten plus dollar lure and produce a product with the intent of targeting a segment of anglers. That angler is also savvy enough to know what they want and why and are less impulsive. Strike King targets another demographic and hopes what price point won't attract, PR, commercialism and marketing will. I wish for once, a major event like the classic was won on a bait that has been out of production for 20 years.

BASS...what do you want out of them??
BASS has been driven by televised media and the image ESPN sought after. I admire the top pros as much as anyone but I can only handle so much of the Skeet/KVD/Ike show. Spread it around. Don't force "big time " bassin into a box that doesn't fit. Let it evolve as itself. It's not NASCAR. There was a day when Ray Scott fished with Presidents and BASS was a voice. There are a number of legislative issues on the table nation wide. Look out Oregon !!!! I hope bass is the power player to represent anglers who support the organization.

KVD winning: Good or bad?
The man did it in shared water. Enough said.

Product Pushing: Way Too Much
Pros are walking talking bill boards and advertisements. The Classic was in balance for sponsor plugs. At least Jeff Kreit was honest enough to ask the crowd to buy Bar-B-Que potato chips to prove to the sponsor he was worth the money they pay him. The day of vests with patches and non-wrapped boats are long gone. Roll with it. The best plug was for the region, the state and the rebound of fishing in Louisiana. Poor folks have been through it.

Yum Zellamander. Smallies love it.

kvd leads
8th through 14th place are 15 ounces apart. It's still anyone's event. The top three or four anglers are fishing in spitting distance of each other. I expect someone to come out of the top 10 to 15 and take this thing. Great photo's from the Bassmasters web site.

If you could have ONE spinning rod...
Well said.

Any other mountain bikers here?
Great sport ! I have a Specialized and three Cannondales hanging in the garage. Future back surgery may put a stop to my riding. Also, get the multi-tool called the " alien ". It's the deal.

Crankbait snaps?
Dual lock style by Mustad. I rarely use a split ring, even the oval style anymore. I have yet to loose a bait and I think they help a crankbait achieve it's full action. The convenience in changing baits is also nice.

Lews speed spool?
That's quite alot of input for a reel series that has been out for what, 90 days or so ? I'll be interested to see the future comments of Lews owners.

new rod description
Raito is similar to Raitodo. It's a technique commonly used in the Caribbean region where you wind fishing line around a coffee can, place your hand inside the can and throw the lure or bait with a side hand motion. It's very simplistic and the act of Raitodo is almost Zen like.

Trokar hooks are they worth the price??
The Miatachi/Youvella hooks do rust like a pair of 99 cent needle nose pliars. Check out the new Mustad Ultra-point KVD tube hook as an option if you like that keeper style.

stained or clear?
The key phraze, " stained to muddy " pushes me to the clearer of the two locations. It sounds like the water temp was below 40 degrees with the note of snow on the ground before the warm trend. If that trend pushed to the temp into the low 50's, clear is still preferable over stained to muddy. I would move to those points and slow crank and drag a jig to start my day and if the water warms further, maybe flip and pitch shollower wood. Regardless, sounds like a great opportunity to go fishin'.

Trokar hooks are they worth the price??
I succombed to the hype and tried the flippin hook. I rolled the points on the first two right off the bat on wood ! I bought Owners and made the collar keepers myself using shrink wrap. That's the deal for me. I have no experience with the other models to be fair.

do you name fish

Whats a Fishing License cost where you live?
Washington: Annual Freshwater is $26.00 and includes both warm and cold water species to include Steelehead, Salmon and sturgeon. A salt permit is extra as are clam permits. We have punch cards for the species named above and are " required " to submit our records to assist the Department of Fisheries which has ( last time I checked ) 20+ cold water biologists and 1 warm water biologist.

Moderate-Fast Graphite vs Glass Rod for Crankbaits
For your FIRST dedicated crankin rod to meet that wide spectrum of baits, depths and cover, I would go to a medium or moderate action graphite in the 7' range. I don't see myself or anyone else as a fool for preferring a glass rod. I use graphite, glass and a composite depending on the conditions. I fish alot of smallmouth and they are notorious for slashing at baits and my hook, land ratio improved with glass/composite rods. You might explore that option in the future and make the choice for your self. Brand is up to your discretion.
