Who Pushes You To Be Better?

Featured Replies

For me, its KVD and Denny Brauer, I really get inspired by those two.  They are always so very confident, what about everyone else?

My Brother...He almost always out fishes me from the back of my boat. It inspires me to try to be better with my technique....

My buddy Randy B. and his fishing mentor, Wayne P. Randy always outfishes me because of his lessons learned while with Wayne, and because he's been bass fishing longer than I have.

I kind of would like to find a mentor to help me out, but I am doing good by myself as well, I am always challenging myself and learning.

Myself.

Nobody. Not even myself. I fish for the sheer fun of it, and have no desire to be "pushed" in any way. That doesn't mean that I don't want to learn new techniques or improve my skills, I just don't want pressure of any kind to interfere with my enjoyment of fishing. I get more than enough pressure at work, thanks. :)

We all do it for the enjoyment obviously ;). Guess I should have re-phrased the question to who really inspires you do better.

Myself. I enter a lot of tournaments where basically I get my butt kicked but less so all the time and I'm doing a little more of the kicking all the time. It's the only way I know to improve is to put myself into that kind of situation and scare myself into getting better. I know that sounds kind of wacky but that is what has always worked for me in any other sport like golf

Indeed,I'm gonna go with myself as well. For pure enjoyment as of course in trying to catch more and bigger fish.

If we didn't want to get better we wouldn't be reading this website or message board for advice now would we?  ;)

Myself.

Especially when I'm trying to put my sons or a friend on some fish, not to impress, just so they can experience the fun of it.

I push myself to improve. My entire existence derives meaning from my association with fishing. I participate in forums, read books, and fish as much as I can.

Hard question,

I can say I do it for my Dad cause this was his sport; it was something he was good at. But he is also the same person who has been not wanting me to pursue fishing tournaments and to quit. I guess I do it to prove him wrong, but mainly I do do it for myself. It's one thing that I have found that I'm good at and fully enjoy. I'm never going to stop cause I'm not going to stop pushing myself.

Yelp  ;)

My two friends I fish with. Watching them catch more fish than me always kills me inside because I am very competitive. From there I try to focus this energy on catching more and bigger fish, seems to work sometimes  :)

I'm always trying to learn more and become a better fisherman so I guess I would say myself.  It doesn't create pressure or stress for myself.  It's my hobby.  Trying to become better at a hobby is enjoyable.

Obviously, as with all matters, it boils down to myself.

However, I have to say all you on this board inspire me with ideas of how I can be a better bass fisherman.

My Grandpa, he has a handicap and now he loves to see me out fishing
