New At Drop Shot Rigging: Question
Actually, according to Gary Senft, that's part of the allure to this setup. I've caught many using this, and the hook does slide down, but there's plenty of power to set the hook in the position you set it.

Bass fishing firsts this year
For me, this year, a "first" was the Ned Rig. And it has not let me down ONCE, saved me from certain skunk days.

Heading to Miami tomorrow for the day, have a couple hours to kill and would love to catch a Peacock bass
Good luck on your quest! Peacock bass are on my bucket list, although I'm talking the Amazon giants. I'd take a Florida strain, too, though !

Gut hooked fish on a Wacky Rig
Seen my share, as well... Thus, one of the reasons I use yellow Power Pro. I am a line watcher. So I have put a lot of time in and have gotten pretty good at hooking the *vast* majority of wacky bass in the mouth area, not the gut. But there are those times when the take is so soft and the line is still, but when you reel in, a bass is there. Have seen that with both wacky and weightless TX rigging, although less TX.

Demoing new pedal kayaks
Seems like they're all catching up to the pedal drive system, finally. Some very nice yaks to compare in the field, I'd be hard-pressed not to look at several if I were in the market, and not just from my current brand, Native.

NBA Playoffs
Very happy with the resultant win by the Warriors! W/o KD, I don't think it would have happened thus.

New At Drop Shot Rigging: Question
So far so good! Only tested 'em once, was about 1 hour using that rod setup. No fish on it, but a ton of snags and the rig held up extremely well under those circumstance. The grass was pretty thick in the areas I was fishing it and I did bring in a lot of grass on both the hook and the weight. A few times the grass was heavy enough to slide the hook down to the weight, as it would do with a fish on. Hard to beat for the price.

Auto PFD
I've toyed with the idea of buying one over the years, but needing to have rearming kits on hand adds up the overall cost. I'd love the greater comfort offered over using a fishing PFD on my kayak. However, I never want to have one NOT inflate when I need it to save my life. So the choice has been to stick with the "always on" kayak fishing PFD.

Welcome aboard! Does sound like a crappie fest is needed. Invite some friends, tell them there are no bass in that pond, take all the crappie they catch!

Braid or not for inexperience.
Pluses on spinning: line management - no coiling off the spool. That's a pretty huge plus to me. Minuses: Wind knots, tip wrapping. Don't happen enough to spoil using braid, so pluses win in my book. I use braid on all my gear, spinning and baitcasting. I tie on a leader 100% of the time, but that is my thing, not absolutely necessary as my sons can attest. I like it to save cutting in to my braid for hook/lure reties.
