  4. Broken record guy here. Braid + fluorocarbon... Rinse and repeat....
  5. Welcome aboard, Mike!
  6. The old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" can apply here... except if you are just wanting to try something new. Lines can get expensive... Never tried C21, but I have P-Line Floroclear in 6-15# test and like it very much. Also use Yo-Zuri Hybrid in 4-15# test and it is also an excellent line. Hard to beat, IMO. I'm currently using Gamma Edge fluorocarbon in 6, 8 and 10# test and *really* like the stuff. I'm only using it (and everything I mentioned above) as leader material. Been quite pleasantly surprised at how strong Gamma Edge is - esp in 6#.

  8. I've actually been impressed with Uni-To-Uni in my Legend Tournament 6'3" micro guide spinning rod! But then I'm using thin-diameter line like 10-15# PP and a 6-10# fluoro leader. Makes for a nice, compact knot. I'll give the surgeons another try soon.
  9. Good luck with it! Seriously! I've tried a surgeon's...maybe need to try again, but for me and my fishing, the Uni-to-Uni and mod'd Albright/Alberto are the easiest and quickest to tie (former being the king). I like to try other knots for sake of learning, but after years of practice, the above are my go-to knots. Maybe that'll change one of these days...who knows.
  10. The best BFTB for me is a Stradic on a really good sale, or for a great price in the flea market!!
  11. Lots of great name-brand reels in that price range. My best advice for you is to go into your local shop be it a Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc., and take your rod with you -- ask if you can try out various reels on the rod. Best thing you can do, IMO. This way you'll get to feel every one and know which one YOU like best. Honestly, it really matters. I went in to a BPS with full intentions to buy a Pflueger Pres reel. I left with a Shimano Stradic. Not because the Pflueger isn't a great reel, it clearly is to a great many fisherfolk. But the Shimano felt that much better in MY hands. We're all different. Find YOU whether it is Daiwa, Shimano, Pflueger, Okuma, Quantum, etc. Edit: Yes, the President is considerably less than the Stradic. I was at a point where the comparisons that night led me from all the Pfluegers and Shimano reels to the Stradic...

Afraid I do it sometimes, too, Hootie....

  18. Sooo, an Amazon Firestick for $30 doesn't quite count for this site, does it...yeah. Well, in non-Black Friday stuff, I purchased a digi-scale and a fish grip Jr. to attach.
  19. Never used anti-reverse lever myself. Never a back-reeler type of guy. I let the drag do all the work!
  20. And like @everythingthatswims on less expensive rods, I can wholeheartedly recommend Bass Pro's MicroLite spinning rods. I've got a 5'6" L travel rod that is more like a ML power, and now a 6' ML. They are excellent rods for the money. Caught many smallies and perch. Plenty strong yet plenty light to cast lighter lures.

  22. Uni to Uni for leader and Palomar or clinch for terminal end. Don't use a swivel, but will use a snap (no swivel) if using a crank or such, which is not often for me. FWIW, I have no problems with strength of the Unit-to-Uni, it is simple to tie and when tied carefully, tightened with plenty of saliva, it will hold. The other knot that is easy to tie is the Modified Albright/Alberto knot. Look it up online if you are interested. FG is very difficult to tie, and simply isn't worth the effort to use if out on the water. The thinner the braid and leader, the harder (at least in my opinion) to tie. Simply isn't worth my time to tie since the Uni-to-Uni and Albright variants work so well.
  23. Agree with @MassYak85. I use yellow Power Pro and a leader of fluorocarbon or copoly. The yellow makes it super easy to see twitches on the line. With fluoro as the leader, it provides some nice feel transfer to the braid - at least it does in my experience.
  24. Nice, Goose. I think I might just have to pull the trigger and buy a pair of these for cheap. I have wanted another digi-scale to have in addition to my BogaGrip, but I don't want to spend much. This looks like a good option. I'll Probably add a mini lip gripper to it, as well, if I buy. Looks like it's up to $10.49 for one unit now. Still a good deal unless one wants to order from China and wait till the end of December. Found the same thing but 40kg for $6.99...
