  1. Perhaps this is the very reason I fish soft plastics 99% of the time now! LOL Been a few lures I've lost due to either lapse of concentration and casting my crank 40' up into an old oak tree, or losing a brand new jig to a hidden laydown deep in Davey Jones' Locker.
  2. Personal best for me is a 1 pound gill, but that's quite a rarity around these parts as the BG population at my reservoirs is rather pedestrian. I hear there are big gills at Lake Prince on the South Side of Hampton Roads, but for the most part, a 6" gill is a good gill around here.
  3. Difficult for me to see anything but NE vs. NC in the Super Bowl at this point. But the best teams will battle it out. I want Manning to get a second ring before stepping away, but I would love to see Fitzgerald get a ring, too. Just not sure either will get the chance. Maybe I'll be wrong. If Denver receivers can actually catch and hold on to balls thrown perfectly into their hands, they could give the Brady Bunch a good tussle.
  4. Welcome aboard, Matt!
  5. Welcome aboard, Alyx!
  6. Mine is pretty much the same, rusted internals. One reason I've not carried it with me for a long while. Have to hit Harbor Freight for another one when I'm ready to start carrying an anchor again.
  7. Well, this is true, and I actually have a 26' dog leash/chain setup. I was more thinking along the lines of a 50-100' anchor line...
  8. LOL. I bought one years back when Roland Martin was the shill for the product. Yeah. Gimmick for sure.
  9. The rocket fishing rod... As seen on TV. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp4d-KE3k-c
  10. Agree it looks pretty complicated, and the winding apparatus is big. Would get in my way. Besides, I rarely anchor anymore with a chain, or such. I mostly use my AnchorPin in shallower waters. I just use my trolling motor to keep in place in areas I can't use my AnchorPin. Obviously this is my solution, and my thoughts about the Wizard system. It does offer a solution that could meet the needs of many yakkers. $150 is steep. If you're handy, you could probably fashion something similar for the mount. The winder would require some engineering, though.
  11. Same here! I've not come across one down here in the Tidewater area... then again, I've not looked for one, either.
  12. Welcome aboard!
  13. Interesting. I've read there really isn't much difference between the FK and FJ other than a few things, and that it wasn't necessarily worth the upgrade unless you prefer the new coloration. I just upgraded my FI reels to FJ (still have the FI models) and wow, what a huge difference the X-Ship makes. Love it! Won't be upgrading reels any time in the near future that I can foresee.
  14. Curious as to what you like better in the FJ than FK?
  15. I used a few different brands, and really liked the little Zebcos that I bought, but ended up buying a couple Abu 276UI reels that worked extremely well.
  16. Started my 4 sons off with simple underspin reels. They worked great. But I added long poles (10-13') from Walmart along with simple slip floats and the boys had an absolute blast catching pannies one after another. They graduated on to spinning reels, and two like to mess with bait casters, but mostly use spinning gear. Helped using night crawlers and very simple techniques that were fun and virtually guaran- teed results.
  17. Strap on your boots and move on.
  18. I remember going out at night after the baseball and soccer fields, or golf courses were watered armed only with a flashlight and coffee can. Man there were some big crawlers there. Also in NY, we'd venture into a local graveyard that was always full of crawlers at night, and tons of garter snakes by day!
  19. Wow! Keep up the awesome work!
  20. Welcome aboard!
  21. Welcome aboard, Adam!
  22. So sorry for your loss, Tom.
  23. Stradic x2 For me, I put my hands on a lot of different spinning reels at Bass Pro, etc. I went in to a BPS fully expecting to buy a Pflueger (based on research online, no hands- on), and walked out with my first Stradic. The Pfluegers are no doubt, excellent reels, they just didn't "feel right" in my hands. In fact, no reel felt as good as the Stradic. i've got 4 Stradics now. Love 'em.
  24. LOL. Niiiiiice P-shop! Beautiful fish, if real.
