  3. Darren. replied to Soap's topic in Introductions
    Welcome aboard, Soap!
  4. Definitely right on that. I want to do more shakey, but I lost all my spot removers due to snags. Didn't catch a fish of that pack. I've been using weighted/weedless wacky rigs lately and have had a lot of success. Most of what I fish is full of downed trees, etc., so maybe shakey isn't going to be my thing.
  5. Welcome aboard, Mark!
  6. If you want to consider a square-stern canoe for a trolling motor, DSG's has three options under $600, but the shortest is 14'. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12634053&cp=4406646.4413993.4417832 http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11439976&cp=4406646.4413993.4417832 http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=21525986&cp=4406646.4413993.4417832
  7. Agree with the guys talking about overfilling your spool. Can be a real pain... So many choices of braid, so many opinions. I have one spool filled with 10lb Fireline, one with Tuf-Line, all the rest are Power Pro 10 lb (20 on my baitcaster). Of all those, I like Power Pro the best. Just my experience. Feel it lays best on the spool, etc.
  8. There are a few differences, for one, the Procyon has 3 CRBB (corrosion resistant ball bearings), the Lexa has 4, but not CRBB. The Procyon series is about an ounce lighter than the equivalent Lexa reels. Plus, the Procyon is made of "Zaion"... ? The Lexa is a newer reel, though, and is equally happy in salt water as in fresh. Daiwa's site: Lexa || Procyon
  9. Welcome to BassResource! Lots of us kayak fishermen here! Any help or questions, we're here to help (and learn!).
  10. Welcome aboard, Brad!
  11. Doubtful. We had a rabid raccoon in our yard last year, behavior was erratic, kind of crazed. Paced a lot -- all during the daylight hours. I've also seen a raccoon camping out about 40-50 feet up in one of our trees in the daylight. That one was probably like yours, camping out until the humans aren't busy anymore so he can rummage through your trash.
  12. I usually, gently, take my clips and snip the knot on the hook shank, careful just to snip the line, not the shank itself. Usually it comes apart easily then.
  13. Welcome aboard, Justin!
  14. Kyle, this is an oft-debated topic, some think a leader is necessary, others do not. Personally, I like to use leaders if for nothing other than preserving my expensive braided mainline. You'll get pros and cons to the argument, buckle up. As for what kind, best of both worlds (IMO) is a copolymer with fluorocarbon coating or blending like P-Line Floroclear, or Yo-Zuri Hybrid. You could also go for the more expensive pure fluorocarbon lines, the expense being less since you'll only be using 4-8 feet at a time (or whatever length leader you choose).
  15. Welcome, Max!
  16. I snell all my hooks that have an open shank. Jig heads, etc., Palomar. As far as hook up ratio, in general, I say it is better....
  17. Wow. Tough day! But you're dry, no loss to your wallet
  18. Always good to break the dink spell. But I'd take a dink over a skunk any day!
  19. That'll be cool, I have no doubt the rumor has merit. Luther is always thinking...
  20. Clayton, here's the golf ball retriever stake out pole video to give you an idea of a cheaper alternative than PNP, or the Stick-It Anchor pins.
  21. FWIW. http://shop.stickitanchorpins.com/
  22. You have choices. The PNP, or any anchor pin can go straight thru the loop in your trolley. FWIW, another reason I went with the Stick-It is that it came with more accessories than the PNP. For one, mine came with two rope lengths, mounting snaps, etc. The ropes have a narrow loop to slip on your pin, the larger loop is for securing to stuff. I put a carabiner in the larger loop and affix it to my anchor trolley, normally.
  23. While I second the boga comment, I can't afford one yet (thanks to everything else I've bought recently). So I ended up buying this one from Dick's Sporting Goods. So far, excellent results. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3986137&lmdn=Brand
