  1. Those hooks are awful, IMO. I tried them the other day, thought the wire weed guard was way too stiff so I clipped the ends, made two straight guards that didn't wrap into the hook. I caught a bass, lost it while bringing in. Then another. That was it. I cut the hook off and went back to my gammy and Hayabusa hooks. Problem solved... I found reviews on the VMC wacky weedless hooks and nearly every one had the same issues... FWIW
  2. Excellent catch and breakdown! Adrenaline usually takes a while to settle down after a chunk like that
  3. There are kayaks you can mound trolling motors on and get the best of both worlds. Most you will have to either buy or build a mount. But the Wilderness Systems Commander has a square stern you can mount one on. See page 9 of this PDF. Personally, I did not like my sit-in time with the Commander. I preferred the Native Ultimate 12. So I can't second enough Hanover's comment to find the one that fits YOU, not me, not him, not someone else.
  4. Welcome aboard!
  5. I made the switch to braid for mainline on all my gear and use fluoro, or copoly for a leader. Phenomenal line management, and the sensitivity is excellent. FWIW.
  6. Welcome aboard, Tylor!
  7. Are you talking a GYCB Senko, or knock off? I've rubbed Senkos between my fingers before to release some of the salt. Not sure it really made a diff...
  8. Heard this on ESPN this AM. A great player, enjoyed watching him. Interesting 19 years for him, Grant Hill, and both retire the same weekend.
  9. A buddy and I sometimes hit a local neighborhood pond like that. We were given permission by a family that lives in the community. Personally, I would never fish a place that I wasn't given permission to -- unless it was public land w/o "keep out" postings. I am very reticent to ever trapse around neighborhood ponds...
  10. Welcome aboard!
  11. FWIW, I have found that once braid loses whatever coating, that it doesn't snip as well, but if you have a way to put some tension on the line (teeth, whatev), the boomerang works perfectly.
  12. I'm now convinced you have these big creatures in a tank and you pop 'em out for pix just to get us all riled.
  13. Welcome, first off. Why not tie on a leader of whatever, fluorocarbon, hybrid, or mono? Wind knots can be (but not always) part of the fishing game. I use PowerPro mainly and occasionally get them. I do have Berkley Fireline on one of my spinning spools. Tied on with a leader, I have very few problems.... FWIW.
  14. Wow, that's quite a gift! Congrats and enjoy it!
  15. Costa. I didn't want to spend the money either, but last year I did, and I haven't regretted it for a minute. Look, buy Costas on ebay from a legit seller (99.7% rating and up is my thing) and you'll pay a LOT less than full retail (like at BPS). I bought my 580g glasses via eBay for like $160.
  16. Welcome back to the water Here's to continued (and quick) recovery.
  17. My house is critter central. We raise rats and mice to feed our collection of snakes, and our savannah monitor. We've also got a pair of russian tortoises. Fav snake I caught was a black rat snake which entered through a hole in our foundation. Awesome snake... Love snakes, my boys and I go out of our way to rescue them and other critters we find out on the road, or when neighbors freak out.
  18. 20lb PP is fine, I use 10 on my spinning gear, 20 on my bc gear, and I always tie on a leader. I fish true Senkos primarily weightless when TX rigging, but like Teal, I'll tie on a 1/8 in windy situations. Or I use a weighted wacky jig - which I've actually been using a lot this season.
  19. Welcome aboard!
  20. Hi Jeff, welcome aboard!

    Welcome aboard, Tom!
