Game meats?
What about those things where you go out on a hunt, and then they take you in the lodge for a wild game dinner? What's your budget?

Hey SoFlaBassAddict
I figured that's what you meant. Any chance to compliment the Lions you gotta take.

Fishing Tackle Giveaway Contest.
He wanted to make it fun. 4/2 is too easy for a 15 year old. Apparently writing a problem that results in 2 is too difficult for an adult. It is amazing what we used to know when we were kids. I used to know the capitals of like every state and God knows how many countries. Now, I don't think I can remember all the states.

Daylight Savings Time
Its good so the kids don't have to wait for the bus or walk to school in the dark. I don't mind it for that reason.

Another 5lber....UPDATE!
Cliff, if you held them like this they'd look bigger. I am blaming this on perspective. Good fish.

Hey SoFlaBassAddict
x2 The Lions put up a good fight today against a strong team. I think we all agree their record could easily be much better. Yes they have been terrible, but despite the rough record this year, they are showing more promise than they have in a long time.

Best rod for under $100
Even if it is not balanced. Adding weight to the tip is worse that adding weight to the butt, but in either circumstance the added weight detracts from sensitivity as added mass decreases the objects ability to transmit vibration.

why are the bass nipping crankbaits?????
Try setting your drag really loose. When the fish gets the bait, he will not feel resistance, this will give him an extra second to snuggle up to it, and it will take you an extra second to plant your thumb on the spool to control the drag when you sweep set on him. If you don't think that does the trick, try changing your retrieve, more pauses, etc. If that doesn't work, try changing baits but run the same depth. I would follow with a swim jig and single tail grub for a trailer.

Poll: Rod Sensitivity Casting vs. Spinning
I am just going to say what I should have said in the beginning. CASTING!

15lb bass on the High Power Herring video added
Fella named George Perry owns the record. 22-4 ;D Ah yes, that was also the world record till recently too right. Who really knows if that ever happened. Didnt he supposedly eat the bass and never take a pic ? I recall reading something in an old bass fishing bible I got. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume this 15 pounder was released after being registered for a citation or did you throw it right back in after you caught it ? EDIT: Found this http://www.mrlurebox.com/GeorgePerryBass.htm Guess thats supposed to be 7 pounds bigger then the one in this thread ? Doesnt look that much bigger then the 15 pounds 14 ounces does it ? Interesting, any chance this fish you caught was heavier then you think? Was it a digital scale ? I want more details. That fish just looks bigger then almost 16 pounds to me. You gotta look at the second photo in that link...That fish is as big as that kid.

Dodge, read for comprehension. That's what I said.

Best rod for under $100
See the Flea Market. Post is called FS: Kistlers, Citicas, Curado, Fuegos, Zillion etc. (Prices Reduced) That Kistler is a good rod for the money, unless you just can't stand the split grip. It does help to reduce the weight and a lighter rod is a more sensitive one, which seems to be important to you.

Good price on the Gerber tool. And if that queen raised air bed is any good, $39 is a helluva price.

Poll: Rod Sensitivity Casting vs. Spinning
Come on!? Keep it simple... Compare a casting and a spinning of the same model. For example: Cumara casting and Cumara Spinning. Jeez You're out smarting yourself. Best post in this thread. Classic. K.I.S.S. : X2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are killing me. Josh, you ask for an answer, then get an excellent one, then shoot this guy down. Ern, great answer. The blank doesn't know what it is destined to become. Josh, Cumara casting vs. spinning? How can you compare, are the blanks the same weight? you could use the same blank and make a casting and a spinning. Sensitivity will depend on what you put on that blank. If you use the same kind and number of guides, same reel weight, same location of the reel seat, etc. they will be the same. The more weight, the less sensitivity. Sensitivity is directly related to weight. Spinning reels are heavier, spinning guides are heavier, so unless you can find a way to combat this, the casting rod will most likely be lighter, and therefore, more sensitive.

want to try rodbuilding
Flech, I like your take. You are right, you can't prove it is detrimental, but you can't prove it is beneficial either. One thing is for sure, if you build a rod with a slight bow in the blank, as the majority of them have, it will be harder for you to sell that rod than one built on the straightest axis, unless of course you can sell the benefits of building on spine to the buyer. (Can you? I cannot) Most of us lowly fisherpeople don't understand or care about those things anyway. We want a rod that looks nice and performs well. We know that a lighter rod is more sensitive than a heavy one, we know that a shorter rod gives us more leverage. We know a longer rod will help cast farther given the recommended line and lure weights are used. We know the spine is basically a by-product from manufacturing and a spineless blank is ideal as there would be no tendency for the blank to want to "twist" toward an axis- for lack of a better description- when a load is applied. I will concede that while I still don't buy it, the argument for building on spine is stronger for buiders who build spiral wrapped rods, or spinning rods specifically for the purpose of vertical jigging as there is less rotational force since there is no casting. Also, once the fish starts pulling, the force applied by the angler is lifting on a vertical plane, where this plane may be more horizontal for casting applications. Still, in vertical jigging, once a fish is hooked, rotational force is applied. Long story short, if you want to use your rod to drop a grappling hook or something and raise an inanimate object from the depths, no fight, no cast, no moving around the boat, then the benefits of building on spine would be maximized. It only takes a second to find the spine and maybe less if you have some specialized equipment to hold the rod. If you want to build on spine, go ahead. I am not convinced there are any benefits, and I am not so sure there is anything detrimental either, beyond the possibility of building a rod that does not appear straight when sighting from tip to butt. Many experts, as you have pointed out, feel the same way. Regarding casting vs. spinning- I agree, in fact, I believe you only need to use one size of guide the whole way to the tip. If this is your first build, I'd go with size 6. Then, when you are comfortable, move to 4s. I think I would only use one double footed guide at the butt, the rest single footed fly guides. Only use as many guides as you need to keep the line higher than the center of the blank when under load. Spinning is a different story, and while it is not complicated, you need to do some work. Here is a resource. http://www.rodbuilding.org/library/spinningNGC.pdf

I need everyones help please.
I quit smoking December 21, 2009. I smoked a pack a day. Haven't had one since. Cold turkey is the only way. Once you have a dip after quitting for a while, then you figure, hell I just had a dip, what is one more? Make it a contest with yourself and reward yourself for milestones. Take the money you would spend on dip every day and set it aside. In a month take your wife or significant other for a nice dinner and get a big 'ol steak. Oh yea, then there's this... EDIT- Susky, just saw your post. Good idea about the steak.
