  1. When I lived in So. FL. and fished a frog every outing the Scum Frog Trophy Series in Green was my go to frog. I like how the back end sits below the surface. Between that and the softness of the frog I find the hook up ratios to be higher than with other frogs I've fished. They aren't the most durable but the price is beyond reasonable so it's a trade off I don't think twice about. It seems the "upgrades" has driven up the price on this new offering.

Yes. I like a slow sink sometimes, especially in the fall.

Rapala X-Rap XR10 in Silver is my go to suspending jerk bait. I have a bunch of other but that one gets the most fish for me. I ditch the feathered treble and upsize the hooks. I like to upsize the hooks on some jerk baits because I find bass sometimes just slash at the bait and aren't able to swallow it. I also often throw a floating Zerek Sabre Dance 85 in Black Shad (BS) which is pretty much chrome with a black back and a white belly. It's a discontinued bait that's hard to find in the States. Besides the colors Silver or Chrome I like using White and sometimes Gold.
  4. Mister Twister used to make a tube that had a lizard (or goby?) head. I don't remember the name of them but I still have a few being held together by Mend-It. Also, bring back DTs in gold.
  5. Figured it was just a matter of time before Booyah started producing these. Xcalibur Squarebills have a place in my arsenal because they run a bit more shallow than the standard square bill (0-3 ft). The Nest Robber Real Craw color is a good one this time of year. I'm hoping for the same colors and running depth out of the Booyah productions. Edit: Just looked them up on Cabelas. Are they really selling for only $2.99? What a steal. They also have Citrus Shad and Tennessee Special colors flip flopped.
  6. There are some baits I have back stock of because they're my bread and butter. So, I usually have unopened packages of certain color SK KVD 1.5s and Rapala DT-10s. Besides that, if I buy one I plan on trying it out on the next trip if it's something entirely new or a replacement of a lost plug.
  7. Savage Gear 3D Suicide Duck. Thinking about taking the hooks off of it and giving it to my granddaughter to play with in the tub.
  8. Recently purchased a couple of Spots in Red Craw from WM. Couldn't pass up a lipless at that price when you consider that they're less than half the cost of practically every other lipless crank. I usually fish a lipless slow, along the bottom over rocks and rip rap. They tend to get stuck every so often so I lose a few every year. Losing a Spot doesn't sting as much as losing an Xcalibur. The thing about lipless baits is that if you're not throwing them where there's a chance to lose them then you're not throwing them in the right places.
  9. I'll chime in too, I guess. Moved to Maryville 5 and a half years ago by way of South Florida and Long Island. I'm a kayak fisherman. When I moved here I found it to be the least expensive way to get on the water (besides bank fishing). I also have a bass boat that needs electronics, new seats and probably a new carb. So, it just sits there taking up space. I fish mainly on Loudoun because it's close. I sometimes venture out to other lakes though. I'd like to float some rivers in the near future.
  10. Do you ever go smaller with a 1/4 oz.? I'm familiar with and usually subscribe to the "bang for the buck" theory where a bass will aim for the most nutrition while exerting energy to feed this time of year. However, a couple a years ago I sat in on a seminar presented by a certain kayak fishing "guru" who stated that he likes to use small craw baits like the Zoom Z Craw Jr. this time of year because bass don't want to have to "fight" with a bigger craw. I've had success on small craws myself (3 inch Berkley Powerboat Chigger Craw mostly) so his comments made some sense to me. Maybe it's different for a lipless. I'll certainly try out a bigger offering next time I want to tie one on.
  11. Haven't tried Lews yet but I have used both Reelsnot and KVD. Reelsnot has a greasiness to it and even leaves a slick in the water. Not really a fan of it. I much prefer KVD.
  12. I enjoyed the show on Saturday afternoon. The David Fritts seminar was mostly a bait and gear infomercial but I walked away with a couple of tidbits of info that might help me at some point. Got to catch up with a few guys I fish with, ate an overpriced brisket sandwich, entered the Fishing for Soldiers raffle at the Frontier Outdoors booth, pet a really big rabbit and of course bought some stuff. Walked away with a Denali AttaX cranking rod for $60 (half price), a couple of shakey heads from Moccasin Lures, some Producto Tournament Worms, a few Spro Rock Crawlers and a Berkley Frittside 7 (infomercial must have worked). Now I have the fishing jones.
  13. Love to crank. DT-10 in Helsinki Shad gets the nod quite often though I have grown fond of the Caribbean Shad color as well as Brown Crawdad in the early season. When I go shallow it's a KVD 1.5 in Black/Chart or Natural Shad. I've been working Rapala Brats into the square bill mix. I like the fact that the 03s run shallower that the KVDs. In the colder months a Shad Rap 05 in Brown Crawdad is always tied on. A few years ago I took to deep cranking. Been using mostly SK XD 5s and 6s. Nothing sexy, just the true and tried. Want to grab a bunch of Spro Rock Crawlers this year. Also, I'm curious about Rapala Big Brats.
  14. During the warmer months I do weeknight tournaments. I have a separate box that has a bunch of black and black/blue hard baits in it. I lost a discontinued black Strike Pro lipless this season. I'll have to find a replacement black lipless before we start up again.
  15. Yup, he's a good guy and a darn good fisherman.
  16. I usually go. I'll probably be there that Saturday. I go just to catch up with my kayak fishing buddies whom I haven't seen since September. They're a good bunch of guys. I'll check out the 3PM seminar about cranking by David Fritts and the 5PM seminar about tight lining. Hopefully this year they don't change/cancel the cranking seminar the day I go.
  17. I've been to a countless rock concerts in my lifetime. Usually when the drum solo comes around it's my sign to hit the bathroom.....except at a Rush concert where it's one of the high points of the show. Seen Rush numerous times and never a bad show. My favorite was years ago on a foggy evening at the Jones Beach Amphitheater. His acceptance speech for Rush's Rock n Roll HOF induction was classic. Long live his music!
  18. 412 Bait Co. 3.75" Small Jaw Craw.
  19. Thanks for this video. This topic was on my mind this morning as today will be the first time I'm fishing this summer that the water temperature will most likely be higher than the air temperature.
  20. I fish a DT 10 year round. Catch fish on it year round. However, I'd like to fish something with a more aggressive wobble at that depth this time of year. Any suggestions?
  21. My personal preference is a Producto 6" Tournament worm. Roboworm Straight Tail and Fat Straight Tails get some action as well.
  22. I'm a fan. I've probably caught more fish with a black Cane Toad than I have any other toad regardless of color. I like Rage Toads too but those legs get ripped pretty easily.
  23. I tie a fluorocarbon leader to my braid. Leader is sold with less yards on the spool and is priced higher per yard than fluorocarbon line. Is this just a marketing ploy or is there a real difference?
  24. Strike King KVD Squarebill 1.5 and 2.5 - Black Back/Chartreuse, Chrome Sexy Shad, and Natural Shad. Rapala DT 6 & 10 - Dark Brown Crawdad, Helsinki Shad, and Firetiger. Strike King 5XD - Black Back/Chartreuse Rapala Shad Rap 05 - Dark Brown Crawdad Pretty simple - nothing fancy
  25. I'll fish a jerk bait all year round, not just in the colder months. The jerk bait I've caught the most fish on is the Zerek Sabre Dance 85 (Black Shad). Wish they were more readily available. X-Raps (XR10) come in second for me. The colors I've had the most success with are Silver and Bunker (saltwater color).
