you can get away with a mh heavy rod just compinsate with about 50 lb braid hell i have pulled them out with my medium spinning rod all the time with 10 lb braid just keep tension on line

i didnt read all the post but look at the River Hawk line of boats. They are verygreat for 2 people and great stableablity

is that a mono or a floro ? and i would say that could affect it by 2 or 3 feet on a medium sized crankbait.
