pitching worms
Go to. Trick worm, weightless to 1/4 oz bullet. Usually unpegged. Sometimes I go smaller with 4-6" hooktail or finesse worm.

Wake baits
I am confused about these as well. When would you use it vs walk the dog type of lures? They seem to work around stick ups.

Primarily fish from a boat, kayak, bank, canoe?
If you are looking at kayaks try some if you can. Most will work for fishing, though. Sit on top kayaks are roomier amd self bailing.

My latest Imaged/airbrushed lures
Amazing work!

Braid backing
Electrical tape and straight braid. I don't like any extra knots. I figure I spend $60 to $100 per year on line. I can usually catch Powerpro on sale in the fall.

Waterproof or Non-Waterproof Trays
I put silica packs from pharmacies in my boxes. Not a lot of rust issues.

Any bass fishing use for 8'6" salmon rod?
Yeah, New2bc4bass, I don't know if I am the thinking man's redneck, or the redneck's thinking man...

Any bass fishing use for 8'6" salmon rod?
I used them surf fishing in the gulf, and they worked great for spoons. The heavy rod seems too heavy for bass. I may have to limit them to surf or catfish. Unfortunately, that would mean I would almost never use them. I have never tried float and fly. I bought these when I lived in the Pacific Northwest.

Any bass fishing use for 8'6" salmon rod?
I have 5 Salmon/Steelhead rods that measure 8'6". 3 BC, two spinning. Trying to determine if there would be a good use in a kayak or from shore. Suggestions?

Christmas Shopping (rod and reel)
Good choice on the Pfluger. I loved my Lightening Shock rod until I broke it.

Brands most used
I find myself buying from the same companies a lot. I am the type who will experiment with several common brands and then settle down. My favorites right now are: Rods: St Croix Reels: Pfluger or the discontinued BPS Viper Lines: Braid-Power Pro, Fluro-Seaguar, Mono-Mustad or Maxon Leader : Yozuri Hybrid or Maxon Chameleon Hooks-Gamakatsu Soft Plastics: Zoom is my #1, but I use a lot of brands here. Rage tail, Yum, Z man, Culprit, Berkley Jigs- not enough experience to judge Hard baits- Rapala if your local store would stock only one brand in each category, and you got to pick what they carried, what brands would you pick?

Is bass gear overkill?

Anyone use rods all from same manufacturer?
I have a St. Croix, two BPS in casting rods and 2 BPS, one Abu, a Fenwickmand an UglynStick in spinning. I have two Shimano Salmon rods and two Okuma Salmon rods, one each brand BC and Spin. A heavy BC Wright and McGill. Plus my surf casting rods. Fly rods, I went crazy for a while: 2 Sage, one Loomis, one Lamiglass, one St Croix, two echo (one spey), and a bamboo by South Creek. I was a road warrior and was transferred a lot. Seems that everywhere I went I needed a different arsenal. Since I haved moved to Bass country, my income is not quite as good, and I have 2 kids in private colleges, so I have had to go with more middle of the road to lower cost stuff. However, most of it seems to be better than the good stuff was 20 years ago. That beingbsaid, I am gravitating toward St. Croix.

The size of the line depends on the cover. I think that two excellent points were made. 1. A fish getting tangled and broken off. 2. Fighting a fish for too long and releasing it to die later. you need something that will get the fish out of where ever you find it, whether that be brush or pads. Then bring it to the boat in a "reasonable"amount of time. I fish in some gnarly stuff and light line has no place there in my opinion.

Jig and plastics rod
Remember, they make crappy expensive rods, and some pretty good reasonably priced ones. Different body types work well with different rods. I had some fly rods that I could not cast until I got to be a better caster, and that took time on the water. My needs and abilities evolved. Now they are my favorites. Not saying that is the case with you, but what you like may change over time. But one thing is for sure, my old crappy first rod is still crappy!

I would like to know if anyone, other than sponsored pros, use rods that are all from one manufacturer? Mine are a really varied mix of brands.

What's your Setup Baseline?
In my yak I carry 2 to 3 rods. One MH 7 for spinnerbaits and jigs 6.3:1reel with braid 65# +/- leader. One M 6 6 for worms 6.1:1 reel with 14 # fluro (my most used), and one spinner with 8 # braid + leader, for treble hook stuff and finesse. Sometimes I change out for a 7 ft H with 65 " braid for toads. My worm rod is a St Croix and the rest are BPS. One spinner is a fenwick and the other an Ugly stick. I mostly fish worms, jigs or spinners. on top, I prefer a fly rod. St Croix there, too.
