  1. yes, the crappie should be biting now on small jigs and grub rigged jig heads, and the bluegill/bream may still be lethargic and hanging on the bottom of slow/non-moving tide pools..
  2. KVD actually did a bit in one of the last Bassmaster magazines with a very nice double rig setup. Instead of using one 3-way swivel, use 2 barrel swivels of the same size, slide one up the line, then tie the second one at the end. Run a 12" lead for the front/first fluke, and 15" on the second/rear fluke. This allows the lures to move separately, so if a bass hits one, the front lure can slide up the line if a second one hits the rear lure and goes the opposite direction. Since bass tend to feed in schools, this setup works well. It does help to use slightly heavier line for this, say 20 lb instead of 15 lb due to the chance of a double fish landing. I have used a larger 5" shadalicious on the rear hook and smaller 2.5 to 3" fluke up front. Most of my hits have been on the front smaller lure for some reason. You can also change the lures, put a spoon, jig or diving crank on the rear to change the action and presentation.
  3. agreed.... only get a specific rod for a specific use if that is what you plan to use that one rod for. Otherwise an unmarked rod like that, just use it for almost everything and see what it works best for.
  4. take the number 2 off the end of your link... with the 2 it doesn't work
  5. I have a few small (3/16oz) and medium (1/2oz) XPS shallow suspending cranks that do decent on the river but because of the heavy vegetation I don't bother in many of the lakes here... at least not until I modify one to look like a baby bass and/or bluegill
  6. Must be central to south Florida.... up here the beds are empty and the only fish found feeding was 2-3 ft carp Looks like a great time! keep us posted with more pictures as they come along!
  7. Remember, for all of the US if you type it in, all the coords from 68º to 122º have the minus sign. Even with the conversion to 36.12507,-83.50308, that still puts it at Bethel Church Rd by Jefferson City, TN. I do see Cherokee Lake just north of there so it sounds like the coordinates are either set to the old datum (NAD27) or the numbers just need to be corrected. Waynes coords shows a spot on a lake by a downed tree in VA (Hunting Run Lake?).
  8. Try this instead: www.ccleaner.com It clears temporary files, old cookies and so on, plus has a registry cleaner to help fix all kinds of things.
  9. looks great... I actually did that camping a few times in my old 79 Chevy many years back in my teen years. But at my height, had to keep the tailgate down
  10. I live a few minutes from Destin and after a few times saltwater fishing I refuse to do it again. I like to fish to relax and have fun. To me, Saltwater fishing is entirely too much work.. but there are a LOT of people here that love it so it should be easy to find some. Have fun!! 8-)
  11. I would have to agree... that is more of a pain than it is worth it to me
  12. none, I found that tying the braid directly to the lure makes no difference on catch rates, plus any extra knots or extra "links" between you and the lure can potentially be a weak spot and lose the fish or lure. Otherwise anything fluro or copoly
  13. I found that Tightlines worms have a level suspend/slow fall to them. When used on a drop shot they stay level.
  14. because of the lack of shad in most of the local lakes, I agree with this one.
  15. sounds like a great time!! I got out in the canoe today and other than a few bites on a Tightlines worm, nothing in the boat... Good to see the water there is warm... this lake I was at here in Northwest FL was still mid 40s
  16. nothing come to mind better than a good bassin day
  17. That flag bit was so annoying, so dumb and still slightly funny... I think the puppet skit was one of the best of this show... 50 puppets... what the.....? Buffering....
  18. I use a Strike king 4-5" worm weightless, Texas Rigged and just twitch it barely with the light rod tip. I found it is light enough to just "float" along and each twitch sends it in a different direction. Thats how I caught my last 3 LMB this year
  19. its a catfish... it sits on the bottom swallowing mud and whatever junk it can find down there... I doubt you can change the taste of it aside from leaving it out in the sun for a few hours.
  20. I smoked normal ciggs for 15 years and quit a few months ago. Occasionally I will have a cigar and usually it is a Black and Mild that uses pipe tobacco. even now several months later I notice if I inhale it kills my lungs... so it is more for the action than anything since I did it so long.
  21. Watched it all, good stuff! I like it that he acts and carries himself just like a normal guy
  22. I find it is more related to the bugs. I have seen colder days in the 50s when bugs were falling and getting bit and hot days over 100 with the same thing.
  23. No Reels have enough stainless, aluminum and plastic that with regular maintenance it should not affect them. The only problem I have ever had was a cheapo $5 reel used for panfish that was out in the rain one day and it froze up due to various pieces inside rusting. This was a cheapo bought at some "made in Vietnam" type of place... although the 50 pack of batteries for $1.50 lasted me a few months
  24. there was a big write up on the Ethanol versus no ethanol in the Nov 09 issue of Bassmasters, even more info I was not aware of that affected boats more than other motorized vehicles. May want to look into that... or I can scan it and send it via email if anyone is interested. Also may want to check with the management of that gas station or the suppliers themselves because it may be possible that they have Ethanol but just have not marked their pumps (or do they have specific signs saying "Ethanol free gas"?).
  25. There are a few websites out there that have explanations. Here is a LINK to one.
