  1. I picked up the Pflueger Trion GX-7 and rod combo from BPS for $60. I had it out on the lake last weekend and it worked great.. the bass were still in the winter hibernation mode and not eating anything but the rod even when hung up in the grass worked great. I would suggest 30lb Power Pro green braid or 10lb Pline CX or CXX on it. rod/reel combo - LINK ladies pink rod/reel combo - LINK
  2. I use 15-30 lb PowerPro on a 2500 reel and it works great. The only time I notice much of a weight difference is going up to the next step, the 3500 or higher. Also another thing you need to watch out for is that yes you can catch smallies on that setup but the 1000 sized reels are made for smaller fish. I have ruined reels because I caught several 3-4 lb bass on them, and they are not designed for that type of pull and drag. Usually around the 4th or 5th decent sized bass they start grinding, popping and not reeling properly. One of my UL reels dying was actually an accident, I caught a decent small 6" bluegill, was reeling him in and a 4lb bass came in and ate the bluegill getting caught on my tiny panfish hook. I brought him in and that reel never worked right again (Shimano spinning reel from the mid 90s, I forget the model). That is why most of us use and suggest a 2000 or 2500 reel.
  3. Any rust on any hook is immediately replaced. Not only for your sake, if you get hooked, better hope you are up to date on tetanus shot, but for the fishes sake too where a little rust can tear up the lip and get infected if the fish is released. I just replaced a few treble hooks on a few cranks last night due to rust. Hopefully the Gokumatsu red doesn't rust as easily.
  4. Not to be a stickler but don't you mean north GA? Atlanta is north... Either way great looking fish!!!
  5. You can cast almost anything into any spot with any reel with enough practice. Right now my accuracy sucks on anything except spinning reels.
  6. the forecasters keep saying "4-6 days from now it is warming up", yet here in the panhandle we are under another dayum freeze warming... it was supposed to be hi upper 60s, lows in the low 50s by this weekend... not gonna happen like this... Except for our bass still in Winter mode, I don't mind the cold... I am originally from SD so I guess that explains why
  7. nah the wally world shakespeare $6 6' Medium Light rod and Diahatsu spincast mini prespooled with 4.5 lb metric line
  8. I have had "Frankenstein" spinning reels with the bolts in the neck (one was a Quantum from the 80s I believe, and a Shakespeare from early 90s) and any that have broken has done so where it meets the rod, never the neck. that reel with the Okuma name is more likely to outlast a lot of other reels out there.
  9. For braid I prefer Power Pro, for the rest I prefer Pline CX or CXX.
  10. 6'6" medium rod, 2000 to 2500 sized spinning reel, 6lb Pline CX or CXX
  11. I would rather they use footage from a tournament (or mock tournament) using real fishing, not some staged private pond with monster fish, that shows a lure actually working in the real world...
  12. if you want it semi-permanent, look into 2 sided carpet tape. Otherwise I have not heard of much that holds up if you plan to stay out in the rain and bad weather.
  13. A friend had one for a while and loved it. The worst part was winds blowing it around and having to lean over so far to paddle. I was actually looking at a few not to long ago but I decided to get this canoe for $100. I plan to hold onto it for a while and sell it and change it for a kayak or john boat
  14. Thats what I like about Lunkerville, it is real fishing in real areas with various lures.
  15. Thats not too uncommon for American Shad or American gizzard shad if they live in a protected area where something else keeps the bass and predatory fish away (like large turtles, gators, etc... Wikipedia entry for gizzard shad states that "They can reach a length of 22.5 inches (57 cm), and weigh up to 4.37 lbs (1980 grams)."
  16. I personally don't care for the twistlock or ones with a small pin up front, I like having the bait cover the eye, so there is more plastic surrounding the main hook itself... but thats my preference that has worked well for me.
  17. I have used the double for the soft paddle tail types and it does work well since it looks more like one fish chasing another rather than having 2 of them dart all over. Sometimes I will use a smaller 3" paddle tail up front and a larger 5-6" behind so a prey/predator type of look. Sometimes I like to use a weighted hook for the front lure so it looks more like 2 that got away from the school rather than a chase.
  18. Google maps and Google Earth has always worked very well for me, plus anything relating to Microsoft is unnecessarily more difficult than it should be.
  19. If we cannot go fishing, and cannot go shopping for fishing equipment, and the boat and extra stuff is done, then what better way to waste time than to talk with other fishermen about fishing and learn stuff in the process.
  20. They have a lot of factors added in... stop lights and signs, a typical heavy traffic area and so on. Sometimes for city driving it tries to route outside of heavy traffic zones which it thinks is faster, which may only be true during rush hour. Otherwise the Google map directions tend to be within 5-10% depending on how fast I drive. I also have compared a few trips with my Garmin GPS using "shortest distance" and "fastest time" settings, Google almost always matched the "shortest distance" which tends to not be faster a majority of the time due to speed limits and stop signs and so on.
  21. Keep your options open... try slow retrieve of lipless cranks, try deeper jigs with a twitch every minute or two, try deep and shallow senkos...
  22. Really? In my book that makes you an even bigger jerk than that guy. If I had to guess,I'd say you were just talking out your backside. Yeah that teacher is kind of a richard, but he's right, keep that crap out of the class room unless it's needed for the class. lol you never knew me in school... I was on a first name basis with the security guards, principals, councelors and so on... so yes I can be a richard myself
  23. Another funny part is late night when South Park is on, they have these TV commercials for a "senior meet and dating" website... my wife and I are just thinking: what 70 year old person is sitting here at 11:30PM watching South Park, much less looking for a date on the computer?
  24. I guess if you find someone who does all the work for you then yes but thats not really fishing, thats just a party barge with a few fishing poles. In itself that is fun but that is not normal offshore fishing.
  25. I am right handed, but I prefer the leftie reels, mostly because I am used to spinning reels where it defaults to the left side and just got used to that after all these years.
