  1. It depends on the reel capacity... Look on the side of the reel and it should tell you the suggested line sizes. If it lists 4, 6 and 8 lb, then only use max 10 lb. and minimum 4 lb. on it. Trying to use something like 15 lb test on a reel stated for 8lb will work but a big fish may strip the gearing or mess up that reel since it is not made for heavy duty drag from a 12 lb+ fish. The only exception is braid which has a smaller diameter so you can use larger test.
  2. I 've said it before and I 'll say it again: the bait doesn 't have to imitate the pattern of the forage base in any given body of water, it only has to move like if it 's alive and an easy prey We don 't have perch, we don 't have shad, we don 't have white bass, we don 't have walleye, we don 't have northern, we don 't have pickerel,we don 't have brown trout, we don 't have brook trout, 95 % of the lakes I fish don 't have rainbow trout ( and I seldomly fish the ones that have bass/rainbow trout population ) and all those patterns work, hot colors like charteuse, firetiger & fluorescent orange work too. Yes, you are overlooking potentially very productive colors. Color is not as important but sometimes it 's all that matters. Hot dogs don't grow underwater nor smell or imitate any type of bait yet I have caught many many bluegill and bream on it... but when it comes to local bass, if it is not the color of the food then they don't touch it.
  3. Looks good, you do whats needed. What lure did you coax them out with?
  4. Welcome!! I was born and raised outside RC but transplanted to north FL some 10 years ago.
  5. prepare for high heat, high humidity, lots of sun block, lots of people, lots of boats and lots of work. Saltwater fishing is MUCH more work than most people put into bass/freshwater fishing. I live right there north of Destin and did saltwater fishing a few times and it is not for me, way too much work just to toss a line out.
  6. If you use any weight, I would suggest using it on the front lure so you get a giant spinner bait type of setup and prevents it from twisting around the line behind it if too small of a swivel is used.
  7. other than occasional surface hooks that were nothing more than oversized paper cuts, never hook myself bad that I ever remember
  8. Give me an all day trip in late Oct. to mid Nov. locally where the days are still in the 60s and the nights not much cooler, where the water is still in the 80s and fish biting left and right. Doesn't matter if it is the decent sized 318 acre lake an hour away or the small 10 acre lake up the road, as long as I get out.
  9. Its not really live bait but we always used canned sweet corn and that did well.
  10. looks good... still waiting for them to start moving here but this cold has them acting crazy here, and the cold creek inlets has been keeping the water cold (low 40s). Great catch!
  11. Looking at the length compared to the rod, I would say around 18" long and 3.5 lb. Its not fat, overly round or full of eggs so anything more than that I think is typical fisherman "add 3 inches and 3 pounds"... That is a short butt handled rod so it is 12" from front of reel to end of butt, so another 6" gives the length of the fish... Its not fat, overly round or full of eggs so the weight is much lower than what some think.
  12. I have tried it but I still prefer the copoly CX and CXX from Pline
  13. I use both without a problem. Usually for larger bait rods (1/2oz or bigger lures), I prefer the front drag but otherwise it makes no difference to me.
  14. That is pretty much what I run with
  15. My suggestions are In-fishermen, Bassin' and Bassmaster, I get 2 of these 3.
  16. I go out to relax and have fun tossing a line in. If I catch a fish, its an added bonus.
  17. We will finally get out of highs in the 40s here in Northwest FL this coming week, looking to be mid 60s starting Thur on for at least a week or two... which means prespawn is not too far away
  18. Switch to Firefox and don't worry about IE problems again ;D Otherwise it may be time to just reset IE. Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Restore Advanced Settings. Close this and try youtube again. If not then go to the same area and choose Reset... If you do not have Reset then you have too old of a browser and its time to upgrade it to IE8. Many websites including Google (who runs Youtube) are cutting support for older IE browsers including IE6 and older. Only IE7 and 8 are officially supported by Microsoft anyways, and IE7 was so problematic, it is better to just jump to 8.
  19. Not sure if it is just my wild side, but that actually looks fun!!
  20. lol I hear ya stasher, I sold mine off after gas prices dropped. I had a 1991 Suburban 3/4 ton R2500 2WD with 454 TBI, 40 gal tank. Could pull a house off its foundation and take half a tank just to drive to the gas station ;D
  21. Too many clean trucks... looks like a used car lot. Go get em dirty!!! ;D
  22. I understand the zip code but I avoid gas stations that have the questionnaires. There is one in Pensacola that has 6 questions before you even pump... 1. using a gift card? 2. zip code 3. car wash 4. additives (STP and a few others) 5. purchase a gift card code for next trip? 6. receipt Never going there again
  23. Growing up in SD, we had the chance to get bison/buffalo a LOT, and I got it every chance possible. Here in FL, if I find any in a local meat area, I pick up a few pounds. It is lean and a very healthy red meat, much better than some others. My brother in law does plenty of deer and turkey hunting so we tend to get a decent amount of wild meat there as well. I have also had ostrich which isn't that great, more of a tougher chicken type meat
  24. Even if it is from shore, don't forget your saltwater fishing license... previous years did not require a license fishing from shore but for 2010 it is now required. Locals need a $9 shore license or $17 on/offshore license. http://myfwc.com/rulesandregs/saltwaterrules_index.htm Non-resident licenses Three-day License................................................... $17.00 Seven-day License..................................................$30.00 One-Year License .......................................... $47.00
  25. Try to stick with small crappie minnows, real small pre-rigged jigs, grub rigged jig heads, minnow rigged jig head if they are deeper. Some people have real small spinners which are hit and miss, they have never done well for me. My brother in law pulled out 16 one day and 30 (max limit) the next day 2 weekends ago.
