  1. Hello and Welcome.
  2. I have also used a pork rind frog on a plain weedless hook to slow the fall even more. Just wanted to add that the brine they pack them in used to be highly corrosive. Keep jar sealed tight and away from other tackle.
  3. Hey from Wisconsin! You will learn alot here, plus a great bunch of guys & gals. 8-)
  4. There is a seller on eBay that has some good deals on LH Quantum Accurist PT's.
  5. Over the years I have thought about rod building or at least being able to replace guides on old rods. Now I'm retired and have the time. I have read numerous posts you guys have on here and decided to do a little browsing at Mudhole. Wow! Talk about overwhelmed,I don't know where to start.I have an engineering background and was in woodworking for 15 years, so I have alot of tools. I want to start out slow and need to know what basic equipment is a must. I started looking at rod winders and realized I don't have a clue! I need all the help I can get. :'(
  6. Hello and welcome.
  7. Welcome, You found the right place.
  8. I prefer the tie-able wire. The pre-made leaders for muskie and pike have the big swivels on them which make them to heavy for me. I would suggest going on-line to ROLLIE & HELEN'S MUSKY SHOP. They have all leader material, including tie-able wire.
  9. Welcome, you found the best!
  10. There is nothing wrong with selective harvest and it's been proven it dose help fishing. All of us practice catch and release, but at the same time we do keep certain fish for the table. When I started this post, I wanted to see what else was being done to preserve what we all love so much. The people on this board, young and old, have made it clear that the future of our sport is in good hands! Our grandkids are smiling.
  11. Not only are they a must for fishing, you should ware them driving or anywhere else that your in the sun. You can have many pairs of glasses, but you only have one pair of eyes. 8-)
  12. Everyone has posted baits that really produce. I would try a few different styles to start. Find what works for you and the type of water you fish. You can add more colors as you go. It doesn't really matter though, because when you start lookin, the bait monkeys gonna get ya!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  13. Hey Mike, Welcome to the greatest fishing site anywhere. 8-)
  14. 1/32 jig tipped with small crappie minnow or grub, etc. using a small slip bobber. Crappies often suspend and they feed lookin up. If you present the bait below them, you seldom get bit. I also use alot of small spinner baits. White or purple beetle spins are my choice.
  15. Welcome, you found the best. 8-)

    welcome!
  17. Sell the fly rod and buy a spinning rod. ;D
  18. I can understand changing line that has been on a reel, we all do it. I was curious, so I looked on a package of line to see if there was a date as far as shelf life. I guess my question would be, Is there a shelf life on fishing line? If so, how do you know how long line has been sitting in a store? I can't imagine a local tackle store replacing old inventory.
  19. Welcome from Packer land. ;D

  21. Welcome, you found a great site. 8-)
  22. Years ago in northern wisconsin the bass population was really declining. The DNR changed fishing regulations for LM & SM bass to "catch and release" from opening day untill the middle of June. Since that change the bass population has seen a dramatic increase. I have practiced catch and release for alot of years and so have many other fisherman I know. I would like to hear your thoughts on this subject and what other states may have done.
  23. I would never be on the water without them. You can change your retrieve depending on water temp. They are great early spring using slower retrieve and longer pause. Yes, The guys are right, the pause is the killer!
  24. Lipless crankbait X-rap 1/8 jig w/ 3" reaper
