  1. I thought some of you fellow Wisconsinites or river fishermen might be interested in this site. They have a live web camera on the Wolf river by Shiocton,Wi. It shows Walleye, Whitebass, and Sturgeon moving up river getting ready to spawn. 8-) url www.wolfrivercamera.com
  2. We have always tried to plan a trip around the first 2 weeks of June, but I know guys that swear the last 2 weeks of May is better. I love the Bass Islands because of the structure and that relates more to my type of fishing. The islands are great because you can always find protection from the wind. Erie can get pretty rough! There are some very nice guys in Port Clinton who can provide you with more info.
  3. If you fish Lk. Michigan, Erie, or any big water, a marine radio is a must! They have dedicated channels for weather as well as emergencies. They are a VHF radio, so you can also communicate with other boats. They are not expensive and may be an alternative to just relying on a cell phone.
  4. Johnson Silver Spoon fished with a trailer. It used to be you never seen a tackle box without one! Still deadly in the weeds.
  5. Clark, I agree, You nailed it!! 8-)
  6. Hello and Welcome. 8-)
  7. Welcome! Great forums, you will learn alot.
  8. Welcome, This place is the best! 8-)
  9. I think what happens as you get older is that you don't have as many things on your mind. Priorities change and you notice things that you used to take for granted.
  10. Wisconsin is $20 a year for residents. This year I can get a seniors' licence for $7. Bait Monkey all ready given me the look! ;D ;D ;D
  11. My new Soron has a spool for braid that has 2 rubber "o"rings. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. I was just curious about the reasoning behind the oversize spools and why they kind of died out?
  12. I'm guessing it was a couple of years ago, I saw spinning reels that had oversize or "mag" spools. I saw some pros using them and then they kind of disappeared. The theory behind them, from what I gathered, was less line memory and no need for backing using braid. Anyone have any info on this? Kind of curious.
  13. I bought a Rapala spinning reel a couple of years ago, and was wondering whether it was made by someone else. I like the reel and have had no problems.
  14. Hello and Welcome.
  15. Are you the only one not catching fish? Try to find out how other fishermen are doing. Fishing right after iceout can be tough. You may also want to try down-sizing to smaller baits. A guy told me, sometimes when you think your fishing slow enough, you're still fishing to fast.
  16. I know alot of guys that only use spinning gear, even for muskie. I have both because in certain situations I prefer baitcasters. Who cares what others think, use what you feel comfortable with. 8-)
  17. Here in NW Wisconsin it's 26 degrees this morning and the lakes still have ice. With the warm weather we've had, it appears they will be opening soon. The problem we have is the fishing season, for game fish, doesn't open until May 1. :'( We can fish crappie and panfish, but legally we can't fish with baits considered to be "game fish baits". :'( Do any of you have a similar problem in your state?
  18. I have 4 Ambassadeurs. 6500c, 5500c, 2500c, and a 5000 that was my first, bought in 1965. They are all in great shape and I still use them on occasion.
  19. I knew a guy that kept a daily record of barometric pressure during the fishing season. He's been a pretty successful fisherman over the years. He never would share his information with us. >
  20. My 3 boys started fishing around age 5, and are still fishing at 42,40 and 33. Out of 5 grandkids, 3 boys,2 girls, only 2 don't fish. My oldest grandson was never interested and the youngest is only 14 months old. I have been fortunate that we always lived in an area where fishing was easily accessible. I'm sure more kids would get into fishing if only given the opportunity.
  21. I got this strange feeling the customer isn't telling the whole story!
  22. There is a jig called the goby sled from Buckeye Lures. I never tried them because they seemed kind of pricey.
  23. A friend of mine bought one years ago and drove us nuts saying we were using the wrong colors. I think he ended up giving it the deep six. ;D ;D Save your money. 8-)
