I'd say you are getting old. young guys tend to have the competitve fire and need to prove themselves, old guys tend to realize that hoisting the biggest fish ain't necessarily the zenith of life on earth.

if you are really, truly concerned about fish, don't fish. One less guy on the lake to me.

don't over analyze it either. big bass don't care how much 'technique' or 'theory' you know when they bite the big bait these baits sell because they catch fish, big ones if you throw big baits exclusively, you WILL catch fewer fish, AND the sporadic giant.

congrats on the new tool. I freakin love my SI unit, a 797c2i. You will not be disappointed under one condition, you take the time to learn your unit. I have a friend who has one and barely uses it, consequently he doesn't get much out of it. I work the thing until the button are worn down to numbs. Only problem I see is it allows any Tom, Dick or Harry (or Kim) to pull into a new body of water and find the spot on the spot in one day instead of 1-10 years.

ok it not a hooking but... Mistake was having the canoe still on the car so the liftback was not open all the way. Carrying a 55lb battery and and walking fast I hit the liftback with my head received a deep scalp laceration. Seems I became a legend at the local night time care center because the flap of skin revealed my skull bone. When I took my kid in 9 months later the staff still remembered me. :-? It took 11 metal staples to close the wound. ouch. Worse part was when they cleaned it with a water pick (BEFORE) they numbed it. YIIIIIKES.

I disagree. Women are perfectly represented to the extent that they have earned it. Consider the standard metrics of fishing greatness: Classics won, AOY awards, Elite series tournies won, and most importantly, sales ka-ching $$ driven by sponsorship and endorsements. Glenn, you seem to imply that the major fishing/boating companies (Pure Fishing, Daiwa, Shiman, Ranger, etc) are engaging in male chauvinsim or discrimination by not featuring more women. I, however, disagree and believe that in the business of fishing, there are limited dollars to dole out for sponsorships or shows. Companies are obligate to dole out the money to the anglers most likely to provide a return on their investment. This is why they choose 'great' anglers. There are no great women anglers (yet), and that is the problem, not discrimination. For the record, I greatly enjoy women anglers. You go gals. I will not however, sugar coat their relative lack of success (so far), nor imply fishing/boating companies that make sensible fiscal choices (for their shareholdes and employees) are sexist or discriminatory.

Glad to have you onboard. I'm a greenhorn myself, to the board at least. Bass fishing is adventure, exercise, riddle, and other junk all mixed up in one. Lots of friendships to be had as well.

mid-day is great during the colder periods like early spring and late Fall. during dog days of summer I like pre-dawn and dusk-dark.

why stop at the female tour? If B.A.S.S. wants to really segegrate people based on chromosones, why stop there? According to B.A.S.S., XX chromosomes get their own special tour but they can qualify for the XY tour. XY chromosomes must compete only in XY events. What about those overlooked and discriminated against Klinefelter's syndrome, or XXY. Klinefelter's syndrome is the most common sex chromosome disorder, affecting about 1 out of every 1,000 males. I don't know how BASS can defend special treatment for XX's but completely overlooks XXY chromosome holders. Why not drain more of the membership fees that go to the XX tour and run an XXY tour? Come to think of it, there are not many blacks in tourny fishing. How about a blacks only tour, the winner could be seeded #52 in the classic. ** bottom line: separate tours is insulting (saying, ok you ladies can't hold your own yet so here is a special sand box), a waste of membership dues (mostly paid by white, men), and divisive. The top 50 PEOPLE should qualify for the classic, regardless of their race, gender or ethnicity!!!

I was going to post my best smallies but I can't hold a candle to you guys. I got so far to go to get to be as good as KVD, my hero. His brother caught a huge smallie I read in BASSMASTER magazine. :o

my experience is that if you are mindful of the weather conditions, it is sufficient. don't go out on a mid-summer afternoon with thunderstorms threatening, they pop up out of nowhere. Avoid high wind days. If we want to get as good, rich and famous as KVD we need to push the limits in a reasonabile way.
