Trailer Light Questions
Bad ground. Run a ground wire from the lights to the tow vehicle. do not rely on the ball and trailer frame as a ground.

Scrap Yard Bound
True, it can be. I doubt that boat is titled. I would doubt it is even registered. if it is it is probably out of date. Technically the scrap yard should ask for some kind of proof of ownership before it is scrapped. Just because some has a bill of sale does not mean the person who gave it to him owned it to sell.

Scrap Yard Bound
download this form http://www.fish.state.pa.us/boatreg.pdf call the PFBC 866-262-8734 Tell them the boat has been in your family for years. You got from your uncle and want to register so you can put a motor on it and use it. They will tell you how to fill out the form and how much $ you need to send. In two weeks you will have registration. Boats older than 1999 do not need a title.

Help - CALIF regs/restrictions on 2 stroke outboards???
You are welcome. Glad I could help. When ever there is a question about a state regulation it is always easier just to go to that states website and search there. You can also have google search a specific site by entering the correct commands. here is what I used two stroke site:www.dbw.ca.gov Two stroke are the key words site: tells google the site to look at, after site: is the site you want it to search.

Briggs and Stratton
I have heard many good things about the B&S outboard. Air cooled, good on fuel, pushes a 12 Jon boat fine. The bad. sound like a lawn mower and only on prop available.

There are many kinds of trolling motor plugs. http://www.cabelas.com/spodw-1/0000967.shtml if you just need to connect two 8 gauge wires together I just use a split bolt connector and electrical tape.

Livewell questions
Are your sure is not a cooler and the hole just drains to floor of the boat? If the hole in the bottom does go to the water. It will only fill the livewell to the hight of the water outside the boat. The only way to get water into it would be a pump that sucks in water from the outside. You will need to put a hole in the transom of your boat and put a pump in there. The run the out flow tube to your live well. You will also need a spray head to make bubbles as the water fills the livewell. http://www.attwoodmarine.com/products/parts.asp?productid=1041&path=pumps&category=1>ype=5&group=1&subgroup=1&categoryname=Pumps+and+Accessories&typename=Aerator+Pump&headername=Pumps+and+Accessories You will also need a hole in the side of the livewell to drain to the outside of the boat so you can not over fill the livewell and then start filling the bottom of the boat with water. Or, you can use a bucket to fill it and use on of these kits to recirculate the water. http://www.attwoodmarine.com/products/parts.asp?productid=100&path=pumps&category=1>ype=5&group=1&subgroup=0&categoryname=Pumps+and+Accessories&typename=Aerator+Pump&headername=Pumps+and+Accessories

thrust vs hp
Got me. The web site says it has 75 LBS of thrust at cruise and 150 at full speed. It also claims two hour run time at cruise. It uses 4 batteries. Thats a lot of weight. The prop on the B&S is more like a regular outboard. Here is a quick video. I would suggest just getting the biggest minn-kota you can afford and put a kipawa prop on it.

thrust vs hp
you more than likely will need one of these. Plus a few batteries. http://www.briggsandstratton.com/engine_power/details.aspx?pid=172

Try plain old gasoline. WD-40 works well.

Aerator and Bilge Pumps
Many boats have an overflow tube attached to the livewell which either runs straight out the side of the hull through a thru-hull fitting or runs to an overflow line that goes out the back at the transom bottom with a thru hull fitting. That's how mine works. The water level get to the top of a tube then goes down the tube through a hose to a fitting that empties out of the transom. If that tube gets plugged there is another one that goes right through the side of the boat to the river.

Aerator and Bilge Pumps
A bilge pump pumps the water from the bottom, bilge, of your boat back in to the river or lake. An aerator can either pump water from the lake/river into your live well or just recirculate the water from your livewell back into it. My boat's aerator just sucks water from the river into the live well and when it gets to a certain level the water just goes overboard.

Do you start your boat out of water
I have seen many yahoos at the local ramp do many of the same things. I saw one guy starting and running his motor for 15 ~ 20 seconds at a time for three or 4 times with out water. I offered my advice about the water pump. He went on to say he does it all the time without problems. I want to be there when he does.

Old battery and upgrading to a 24v trolling motor...
I do not think it would be a problem to get a new battery with your current one. I do not think one year would hurt. 4 or 5 might make a difference. I would make sure they are the same size and type. Do not mix AGM with flooded cell etc... They have different discharge and charge rates. Size, capacity, matters. In a 24V system, 2 batteries in series, your total capacity is that of the smallest battery.
