  1. https://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-1229-12V-Coffee-Maker/dp/B0066CPGKK I would cut the plug off and use ring terminals and connect right to the battery.
  2. I use an old folding hiking pole.
  3. I have used one of those harbor freight trailers from when I first bought my kayak. There was no way I was going to attempt to put a 80lb kayak on the roof of anything. I have not problem getting my kayak to even the most remote places. Here are some mods I made to the trailer for kayak hauling. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/117449-kayak-trailer-modifications/ One of these helps be move it around the yard. http://www.harborfreight.com/600-lb-heavy-duty-trailer-dolly-69898.html
  4. I am very familiar with how depth finder works. I have two on my boat. They are great on the deep lake I fish on in Canada. I have actually watched a fish come up and grab my drop shot on the screen of my depth finder. I only use my kayak in the shallow rivers, less than 3' in most places, near my house. No need for a depth finder there. I can see, with my eyes and polarized sun glasses, the whole width of the river and the water is clear enough I can see any structure. Even where it is deep enough for me to use my boat the average depth is 4 to 5'. There are occasional deep holes of 15 - 20'. I know where they are and usually only fish them in the winter or the dog days of summer. I just stated that my kayak fishing is limited to very shallow water and have no need for a depth finder on it. I never said no one needed a depth finder on their kayak. 12-14' is not "shallow" if I am in 14' of water I much rather fish out of my comfortable boat than a kayak. The Kayak is only for places I cannot get the boat. Unfortunately the river I fish a lot has changed. So I had to buy a kayak to get where the fish are.
  5. I am using one on my 55LB minn-kota. It works much better than the stock one. It gets to top speed much faster. If you are not careful on speed 5 it will throw you out of the boat if it is turned hard.
  6. I am rarely in water deep enough for a fish finder to work. Plus, it is even more rare for me to fish directly under the kayak.
  7. I had a long shaft motor on a short shaft boat for years with no issue. As said above you need to get a tach on that motor to see what it is doing. My guess is you need a smaller pitch prop to get the motor in the correct RPM range.
  8. I usually have my Rod, a couple of plano boxes, something to cut braid with, life jacket, occasional 3 yeard old, and a cooler. I carry the minimum when I kayak fish.
  9. An outboard will usually burn 10% of its rated horse power in fuel Per hour at WOT. For Example. a 150 HP outboard will burn 15 GPH at WOT.
  10. I have a Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game. The only thing I added is the center hatch
  11. Lowes and Home Depot sell wire by the foot. It wil be the thicker stranded wire. A littler harder to bend but ti will work. Try and Auto parts store or a stero install place. They will have the finer standed wire. Or Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-GAUGE-AWG-WIRE-CABLE-20-FT-10-BLACK-10-RED-POWER-GROUND-STRANDED-PRIMARY-/280916816675 Saw you mentioned lowes and others. Copper is not cheap.
  12. vessels under 16' in FL do not need to be titled. http://www.flhsmv.gov/dmv/FFFVO.pdf
  13. Just an FYI. You will now have to register your Kayak and put numbers on it. You will need a certificate of origin from the manuafacture to do that.
  14. Make sure the polarity is correct on on the plug it is plugged into.
  15. Sometimes, Like my GMC envoy, The trailer fuses are under the back seat.
  16. Brown wire running lights yellow left brake and turn signal green right brake and turn signal White ground. Lights with bulbs usually ground to the trailer frame with the mounting studs Lights with LEDs will ground with the studs sometimes. other times they will have a white wire. If your trailer is a bolt together you are better off running a white wire to the taillights connecting to the studs or white wire. if your trailer is welded you can, most of the time, use the trailer as a ground.
  17. Yes they are just act as resistors. They are coiled so they touch the motor housing all around. this way they are cooled by being submerged in water. You should limit the amout of time the motor is run out of water. Those resistors see about 60 watts of power and can burn up pretty quick if over heated. Resistor do not adjust current. They drop voltage. for example; If you have a motor that has 1 ohm of resistance. you apply 12 volts to it. it will spin at full rpm. Now, if you put a coil of wire, resistor, that also has 1 ohm of resistance in series with the motor. Both the resistor and motor will see 6 volts. the motor will spin at half it 12 volt rpm and the resistor will just get hot. The current flow will be 6 amps. Now, change the 1 ohm resistor to a 2 ohm resistor and the motor will see 4 volts and spin at a third of its rated speed. The resistor will see 8 volts and, The current flow will be 4 amps.
  18. I do not have a schematic per se. But, they're resistors, two in fact, in the motor housing. They are coils of wire each a different resistance. The wires are the sized to the inside diameter of the motor housing, They are wired in before the brushes. Lets call them one and two, The 5 speed switch will either put one, then two, then one and two in series with each other, then one and two in parallel with each other, for 4 speeds. The 5th speed bypasses the resistors to give full speed. A quick resistor lesson two resistors in series with each other will have a total resistance of both resistors. two resistors in parallel with each other will have a total resistance less than the lowest resistor in the circuit. A one ohm resistor and a two ohm resistor in parallel with each other will have a total resistance of .667 ohms here is what a speed coil, resistor, looks like.
  19. I do not know where people got the idea that the 5 speed motors draw the same current on all speeds. When you increase the resistance of a circuit the current draw drops. I=E/R. Ohms law. Me and another fellow go into a 15 page forum discussion with another guy, who is a minnkota repair center owner, about the same thing. The Minnkota guy kept claiming the 5 speed motors drew the same current no matter what speed. I finally had to make a video to prove otherwise to him.
  20. If the motor you are buying is a 5 speed motor. Speed 4 will draw about half of the current of speed 5. But, you will not go twice as fast on speed 5 as speed 4. So, running on speed 4 will give you twice the run time with out affecting speed that much. This should give you a good idea what to expect http://tufox.com/hobie/TrollingPerformance.html
  21. I usually let it sit for a few hours.
  22. When you use silicone. Put some around the screws. Let it cure a little bit before the final torquing. This will give it time to make a gasket. If you tighten it down before it is somewaht cured it will only squeeze it all out from under the screw head leaving nothing behind to act as a gasket. I have also wrapped the screw threads with teflon tape before installing.
